http://vuproxy.blogspot.com/
In the early $839s, the )uslim community !as beginning to reali.e the need for its active participation in the fields of trade and industry. (ince the late $779s, >indus had established a commanding presence in the areas of industry, trade and commerce and !ere especially dominating in the (ub"continent area. Banking, in particular, !as the e0clusive forte of >indus and it !as popularly and !rongly believed that )uslims !ere temperamentally unsuited for this profession. It !as particularly upsetting for =ha!a+a Bashir Bu0 to hear that1

Muslims could not be successful bankers.

>e decided to step"up to that challenge and took the lead in establishing this first )uslim bank by the name Australasia Bank ,imited in Pun+ab, !hich !as to become Pakistan in :ecember $83/. The Bank financed trade in cloth and food grains thus, played an important role in maintaining consumer supplies during the early months of $837 affected by riots. :espite the difficult conditions prevailing and the substantial set back in the Bank#s business in India, Australasia Bank made a profit of -s. 49,999 during $836"37. e! branches !ere opened in =arachi, -a!alpindi, Pesha!ar, (ialkot, (argodha, ?hang,

..1.5: THE ESOP REVO-UTION

http://vuproxy.blogspot.com/

http://vuproxy.blogspot.com/
The concept of G@mployment (tock O!nership Plan# !as not only familiari.ed but practically reali.ed by Allied Bank under the dynamic leadership of the then ;hief @0ecutive%President )r. =halid A.(her!ani. This fact shall definitely be recorded in the history of Pakistan, before going into the success of the @(OP as preached and achieved by the Allied Bank, it seems pertinent at this point in time to d!ell for moment on the privati.ation process in Pakistan as per the day scenario. It is the fact that the privati.ation policy !as rightly said to be corrective process and it !as a bold economic initiative of the Covt. of Pakistan. It !ill lead the country to!ards self"reliance, economic emancipation of the masses, and eradication of unemployment, poverty and improvement of the &uality life of the masses. Ehether it is de"regulation, de"nationali.ation or dis"investments, it aims at productivity through ma0imum utili.ation of the resources like, men, money, and market. In the present day !orld trade rather that aid is shat !hich is sought to be achieved. This can only be possible through increased productivity, reduced cost and competitive marketing ability, !hich result through open market operations of privati.ation. ;reativity and market research are promoted in a better !ay and investment from !ithin the country is encouraged. Private o!nership is allo!ed to play its role in the economy as is being envisaged by the presently Covt. in our country.

The basic principles underlined by )r. =halid A. (her!ani !hen launched this scheme country!ide and the positive response evoked from the Covt. press and public at large. $. @(OP fosters unity sense of belonging and loyalty to the organi.ation. /. @(OP is a brand ne! idea in our country. It has been already stood test of the time. :uring last 3 year roughly 8999 companies. In America banks have been privati.ed under @(OP. Imagine 6499 people spread over more than 649 branches raising one slogan @(OP. 6. @(OP is customer oriented. 7. @(OP means one of the all and all for one. It is team!ork. 8. @(OP provides protection to family on retirement. It is an umbrella, !hich automatically opens as soon as there is a rain.

Total investment comprise of federal govt 33H, fully paid up ordinary shares 8H, Term finance ;ertificates 23H, Other investment 7H in /998 as compare to the year /994. The government shares 79H and the increase in Term finance certificates resulted in heavy profit from year to year from $$H to 22H, it increases the overall revenue. (urplus on revaluation assets remained deficit but converted into profit in year /998. By the analysis the management should increase his investment in 'ederal government securities because these are the safe, but investment of Term finance ;ertificate should remain same. 11: CONC-USION
At present there is no such organi.ation in the !orld that is free from problems and challenges. @very concern has to strive and struggle a lot to be more profitable and to get more competitive edge. The management of AB, is taking strategic steps to enable the bank to emerge as a strong and progressive institution. It is continuing to make efforts to refine its products and operations to make them more compatible. e! deposit schemes have been introduced and an action plan to maintain revenue gro!th in future. :uring my internship I have learned many ne! things in spite of the kno!ledge gained at university and also came to conclusion that education alone is not enough, practical training in every field is crucial to become a successful manager. The bank has great image due to the trust but it needs to use it effectively to increase market share. Also the fla!s in branch operations such as misallocation of resources should be rectified. As the business and economic conditions remain uncertain, AB, continues to develop the ne! products like it has been doing in past. :uring my internship training at AB, -egency Pla.a Branch 'aisalabad I have learned a lot. It !as a geed e0perience for me. In $88$, the AB, became the first Pakistan#s Privati.ed bank. After privati.ation, the profitability and performance of the bank has increased. Today AB, represents a bank that has gro!n !ith time.

12: RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE ORGANI,ATION

Eorking !ith Allied Bank !as a lifetime e0perience for me because not only it has made me able to step into my practical life but it also provided me !ith the e0posure of a multi national organi.ation. I have learnt a lot from my internship !ith Allied Bank. The overall !orking e0perience, the !orkplace environment, the help from the seniors and many more !as e0cellent. If anyone !ho seeks his career in the banking sector in Pakistan, probably Allied Bank is the best place he can find. Ehile doing my internship training of 7 !eeks in Allied Bank of Pakistan, I have analy.ed some problem in the Bank. =eeping in vie!s those problems follo!ings are my recommendations1 1. The bank has a lot of financing schemes but there are little advertisements of these schemes so AB, should more advertise its schemes. 2. )ost of the bank employees are stick to one seat only, !hich result that they become master of one particular +ob and lose their grip on other banking operations. (o, all employees should have regular +ob rotation. .. (ome of the talented employees should be sent to other countries for their advance trainings.

http://vuproxy.blogspot.com/

http://vuproxy.blogspot.com/
4. In back offices the employees are still depend on manual !ork !hich causes slo! performance. It should convert their system to an automated one. 9. AB, should promote the paperless banking. >. In some groups or !ings, approach to!ards employees is still bureaucratic, late promotion, favoritism in appraisals and lack of sufficient incentives are some problems arising dissatisfaction so the employees should be promoted on fair policies to increase more satisfaction among them. 5. AB, should introduce the Islamic products because it has the potential market. ?. Ehen giving the loan, the Bank must carefully analy.e the past si0 month#s transaction history of the borro!er. This !ill help in +udging the dealing behavior and financial status of the client. In most cases, this thing is not properly done and it is the ma+or reason of default of many clients. 3. The Bank should keep the proper che&ue on stock !hich is hypothecated. A te0tile o!ner may ret the loan on same $9,999 bales of cotton from checking system of the Bank. 1:. The Bank should try to give more loans to the small borro!ers as the past history sho!s that most of the loans given to the corporate borro!ers have converted into bad debts. 11. Ehen any one comes to operate the lockers, then the things !hich he keeps in locker should be checked through metal detector for security purposes. 12. All the Bank Branches should be getting online to provide the &uality and speedy services to the customers and also remain competitive in the market. 1.. The circle of AT) machines should e0tend in all the ma+or cities of Pakistan. 14. Eith the internship letter should also be re&uested to provide us the financial reports. Because !hen !e demanded the financial reports they said that this is confidential. And they are not allo!ed to provide these statements to any trainee.
