Golden Jubilee Celebration

Spring 2013

Spring 2013 Executive Board President Saria Haselrig (’10) VP of Membership Emilee Croutch (’12) VP of

This year, the Zeta Phi Chapter celebrated 50 fabulous years on Slippery Rock University’s Campus. On March 9, 2013, we hosted a Golden Jubilee Luncheon. With the hard work of so many people, we were able to make this exciting celebration an overwhelming success!

The active sisters, with the help of our Collegiate Chapter Director Jennifer Walters and alumnae like Marianne Novelli Bell, threw a formal luncheon to honor this exciting achievement. The Golden Jubilee was held in the Robert M. Smith Student Center on campus and was decorated with composites, paddles, and other artwork that had been collected by the chapter throughout the years. And, of course, it was covered in pink and green! The active sisters had a lot of fun looking at all the memorabilia that was set up around the room, but the alumnae had an even better time looking through their memoires and finding people who were on their family trees. The event started with opening remarks led by Treasurer, Savannah DeLeon, who welcomed the sisters and congratulated everyone on 50 years on campus. She also read a few letters sent by alumnae who were unable to attend the Jubilee that still wanted to share their memories of their time with the Zeta Phi chapter. Then, President Saria Haselrig led sisters in saying the Creed and the Pledge of Allegiance. Stephanie Brackbill said a prayer before lunch was served. During lunch, the sisters talked about their memories and shared stories of their time at Slippery Rock University. There were a lot of funny stories shared and also touching, emotional

stories that made every sister remember exactly why it is so great to be a Delta Zeta!

A Golden Rose Ceremony was held for alumnae Marianne Ponist to honor her 50 th year as a Delta Zeta. Jen Walters, Saria Haselrig, and New Member Leslie Walker performed the ceremony presenting Ponist with a golden rose pin, a certificate and a rose in commemoration of this milestone. The event was photographed by DZ alumnae, Kriste Sirakos. It was a wonderful time and it was amazing to have some many sisters from different decades in one room to celebrate our sisterhood. The celebration was definitely a memory that will stay with each and every one of us forever. We were so happy to share it with all of you!

This year’s Greek Week left both Delta Zeta and

our partners, Pi Kappa Alpha, on top, both wining first place overall! The week started off with Greek Sing on Sunday, April 21, giving DZ

a first in formal with the song, “Stay,” by

Rihanna, and third in informal as well as partner. It was great to see so many alumnae back to cheer us on! The winning streak continued throughout the week with Delta Zeta placing in almost every event including the alligator relay, 100-meter dash, volleyball, the scavenger hunt, and basketball. Delta Zeta is proud to have the first place title and trophy back in our possession. We are looking forward to defending our title next year!

MISS PUSH AMERICA 2013

In March, Pi Kappa Phi, a fraternity on campus, had a fundraising pageant titled Miss Push. Push America (People Understanding the Severely Handicapped) is Pi Kappa Phi's philanthropy and it strives to assist people who have disabilities. In

the pageant, our very own Mikayla Cowan(’12)

represented the Zeta Phi Chapter!

She had to perform a talent in which she did “The

Cup Song” from a DZ favorite movie, Pitch Perfect. She then had to answer a few questions. Congratulations to Mikayla for winning and being

crowned Miss Push 2013!

HOMECOMING WEEKEND

Delta Zeta paired with Pi Kappa Phi for

Homecoming this year. The theme for the event

was, “Through the Ages.” DZ and Pi Kappa Phi

chose to represent the 1970s based on the 1976

KISS song, “I Wanna Rock N Roll All Night.” The

float featured sorority and fraternity members with fake guitars and drums. Sisters then tailgated before the football game with alumnae.

REGION 3 DAY

On Saturday, February 23 rd , the members of executive board and a few chair positions of the Zeta Phi chapter, went to Region 3 Day. It was a great experience to meet women of other chapters and Zeta Phi received 9 awards!

Recently, our chapter was picked as one of the top 30 chapters in the country to have 100% participation. We are also one of the few chapters to give to the 1902 Loyalty Society donating $19.02 per sister.
