Taylor 3/28/14 A Proposal In the United States today, ridiculous plea exists to raise the federal minimum wage laws for employees. Workers are unhappy with their pay and have protested and gone on strike against corporations and employers all across the nation. These oppressed workers claim that they deserve to get paid more and that they deserve more benefits. As one who has studied both economics and human ethics, I have come up with a better solution to this issue: pass a federal law stating that all employees must be compensated the same amount no matter what position or job they are in within a company. Owners will set a salary for all of their employees. Equalizing pay for all employees will A fundamental concept in American culture is the belief that everyone should be treated equal regardless of gender or race; however, how equal is America if some people make more money than others? In many of the largest American Companies, CEOs and Presidents make millions of dollars more than a majority of the other employees combined. For example, most Walmart Cashiers and non-manager store employees only make minimum wage. In contrast, the CEO of Walmart makes millions of dollars each year, hundreds of times more money than the meagre income of the average employee. This inequality is completely unfair to the underpaid worker. Many of these minimum wage employees work incredibly hard and deserve to get paid just as much as anyone else. They may not be as educated or as individually driven, but they are

Hester 2 all just as human and deserve to be treated as such. When all employees are paid the same amount, everyone will be happy and everyone will be treated equally. This monetary equality will not only affect the moods and livelihood of the currently poor employees, but also help the economy. When all employees are paid the same amount and everyone receives relatively large salaries, they will buy more goods and put their money into the economy, stimulating growth. In conjunction, employees will put their personal savings into banks where their money can be loaned out to investors and the moneys effect on the economy will multiply. But would business owners make every employees salary low? They could not. Employers would be forced to compete with other businesses for labor, meaning that they would have to pay more money in order to keep employees from leaving and joining other countries.
