Student: Jan Cook (ID# 1184949) Cohort: Principal Certification Dates Activity (include competencies addressed) Planning Conference Call- Phone conference with company educational representatives from Voyager regarding staff development and plans for the year with intermediate and secondary dyslexia teachers. Competencies: 001, 002, 004 Interviews and Hiring for Itinerant Dyslexia Teachers- created job description, gathered applications, set up interviews, checked references, completed hiring paperwork from Human Resources and recommended teachers for hiring. Competencies: 008 School Support Team Training- Training for the Curriculum and Instruction Department on a new system for providing support to Tier 3 schools in our school district. Competencies: 001, 002, 003, 004, 008 Language! Teacher PLC Meetings- Organize and present meetings for teachers teaching dyslexia intervention programs in the intermediate and secondary schools. Competencies: 004, 005 Model Writing Lessons and Debriefing- modeled early childhood writers workshop in kindergarten, first grade, and second grade classrooms at McDougle Elementary, followed by debriefing session with the teachers. Competencies: 004, 005 Mentor/Mentee Reading Specialist Meetings- facilitate and lead discussions regarding requirements, procedures, etc. related to the job responsibilities of an elementary Reading Specialist. Competencies: 001,006 School Support Team Committee Meeting- Reviewed data and created a plan of action for a Tier 3 elementary school. Competencies: 001, 002, 003, 004 Regional Dyslexia Advisory Committee Meetings- represented Klein ISD at the Regional Dyslexia meeting held at the Region IV Service Center. Competencies: 002, 003 Read 180/System 44 Action Committee- Committee meeting to explore criteria for students to qualify for use of these programs which have been traditionally for special education students. Competencies: 001, 002 Dyslexia Record Update Meeting- Met with counselors from one of the high schools to update all dyslexia records for the year and to determine all students were correctly coded in PowerSchool. Competencies: 003, 004 Training Reading Specialist in Dyslexia Assessment- Reviewed and modeled formal testing procedures for elementary students identified as possible dyslexic students. Competencies: 003, 004 Teachscape Training- Participated in a training on how to enter walkthrough data for campuses on the Teachscape Program. 9/26/13 Competencies: 004, 006 Multilingual and ELA Department Collaborative Meetingsparticipate in an open forum discussion of areas in which coordination of the two departments is needed. Competencies: 001, 003 Meeting on Evidence of Reading Difficulty Document with Department of Student Accountability- Reviewed document with criteria established by ELA Department. A consensus was agreed upon and clarification of the document. Competencies: 002, 004 Created Kindergarten Academic Intervention Lists- Generated lists of kindergarten students who meet criteria as at-risk in the area of reading. Distributed lists to campuses. Training Reading Specialist in Dyslexia Assessment- Reviewed and modeled formal testing procedures for elementary students identified as possible dyslexic students. Competencies: 003, 004 Model Writing Lessons and Debriefing- Modeled early childhood writers workshop in kindergarten, first grade, and second grade classrooms at Brill Elementary, followed by debriefing session with the teachers. Competencies: 004, 005 Grant Reading- Participated in committee meeting to read grants submitted to the Klein Education Foundation. Competencies: 003, 005 Reading Planning Epps Island- meetings with English Language Arts and Spanish Language Arts teachers to discuss and interpret the 4th grade level TEKS and how to teach them in the classroom. Competencies: 004, 005 Prepared Accommodations Update for Reading Specialists- Using the new accommodations triangle and other information released by TEA, an informational meeting was created and shared with my supervisor and then the Reading Specialists. Competencies: Dyslexia Intervention Program PLC Meetings- Organize and present meetings for teachers currently teaching the dyslexia intervention program. Competencies: 004, 005 504 Meeting- Prepared Dyslexia Profiles from testing administered. Attended 504 meeting to share results of dyslexia testing and contribute to creating the 504 plan based on data and teacher input. Competencies: 002, 003 Program Coordinator PLC Meetings- The Program Coordinators from all areas of Curriculum and Instruction meet weekly to collaborate. One charge we have had this year is to work on the integration of technology in all subject areas. Competencies: 006, 007, 008 Dyslexia Committee- One or two times a week, a committee of program coordinators and reading specialists meets to review case studies of students tested for dyslexia for the purpose of qualification in the dyslexia program. I facilitate this committee.
