Pass me not, O gentle Savior, Hear my humble cry, while on others Thou art calling, do not pass me by.

1 KINGS 19:4-19 (NIV) 4 while he himself went a days journey into the wilderness. He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. I have had enough, Lord, he said. Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors. 5Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep. All at once an angel touched him and said, Get up and eat. 6He looked around, and there by his head was some bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again.
The angel of the Lord came back a second time and touched him and said, Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you. 8So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. 9There he went into a cave and spent the night. And the word of the Lord came to him: What are you doing here, Elijah? 10 He replied, I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too. 11The Lord said, Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.

fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 13When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, What are you doing here, Elijah? 14He replied, I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too. The Lord said to him, Go back the way you came, and go to the Desert of Damascus. When you get there, anoint Hazael king over Aram. 16Also, anoint Jehu son of Nimshi king over Israel, and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat from Abel Meholah to succeed you as prophet. 17Jehu will put to death any who escape the sword of Hazael, and Elisha will put to death any who escape the sword of Jehu. 18Yet I reserve seven thousand in Israelall whose knees have not bowed down to Baal and whose mouths have not kissed him. 19So Elijah went from there and found Elisha son of Shaphat. He was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen, and he himself was driving the twelfth pair. Elijah went up to him and threw his cloak around him.

JUDGES 11:1-11 (The Message) 1-3 Jephthah the Gileadite was one tough warrior. He was the son of a whore, but Gilead was his father. Meanwhile Gileads legal wife had given him other sons, and when they grew up, his wifes sons threw Jephthah out. They told him: Youre not getting any of our family inheritanceyoure the son of

another woman. So Jephthah fled from his brothers and went to live in the land of Tob. Some riffraff joined him and went around with him. 4-6Some time passed. And then the Ammonites started fighting Israel. With the Ammonites at war with them, the elders of Gilead went to get Jephthah from the land of Tob. They said to Jephthah: Come. Be our general and well fight the Ammonites. But Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead: But you hate me. You kicked me out of my family home. So why are you coming to me now? Because you are in trouble. Right? 8 The elders of Gilead replied, Thats it exactly. Weve come to you to get you to go with us and fight the Ammonites. Youll be the head of all of us, all the Gileadites. 9 Jephthah addressed the elders of Gilead, So if you bring me back home to fight the Ammonites and God gives them to me, Ill be your headis that right? 10-11They said, God is witness between us; whatever you say, well do. Jephthah went along with the elders of Gilead. The people made him their top man and general. And Jephthah repeated what he had said before God at Mizpah.

that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? wherefore do ye tempt the Lord? 3And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore is this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst? And Moses cried unto the Lord, saying, What shall I do unto this people? they be almost ready to stone me. 5And the Lord said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go. 6 Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.

And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the Lord, saying, Is the Lord among us, or not?

GETTING TO THE HEART OF THINGS PEOPLE WITH A CALLING
Put down those nets, brother! We have something more important to do. Those nets do need mending, but this is urgent. Peoples souls your soul and mine need mending, too. Jesus is calling us. Those fishermen/disciples, of course, had never heard the message that Jesus, the word, became flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:14), but they knew what it meant. This Jesus, who had come to them, was Gods Word, a word that could renew their lives. Jesus needed their help is making Gods word and will known. He not only spoke words, but lived them out. Jesus called his disciples, and calls every one of us, to join in this mission. If we are reluctant, as they may have been at first thought, change the wording. Instead of calling, say, purpose in life. Instead of a task, hear vocation or career. This is not only a request, but an opportunity, a privilege. To be sure, God has given us a good life and wants us to take time to enjoy its beauty, but when a life seeks only its own satisfaction, it is usually empty. We are most fulfilled, when we sense that our world has needs that we can help to meet. In working at them, we find purpose and vocation. At the end of our lives, we may look back and ask, What did I accomplish? The answer, for most of us, is not some great invention or lasting monument, but our diligence in being a good family member and a constructive force in our society. Jesus truly was Gods lived-out word. We can share in that calling. With our faithful labor and our caring, loving presence among others, we can help to make Jesus and Gods will, known. Our calling, then: Share in Gods ongoing creativity in whatever way we can. Do our part to fulfill the prayer for Gods will to be done on earth as it is in heaven.

LENTEN MEDITATION
Fasting
Fasting for the Lenten Season
This year, our church-wide theme Loving God. Living Green. Liberating All. calls us to a closer relationship with God, and to the stewardship of Gods creation, as a path to liberation. During this Lenten season, we are called to a church-wide fast. Fasting is a spiritual discipline designed to deepen our relationship with Jesus Christ. We do not fast to lose weight; we fast to be empowered by Jesus Christ. In 2014, God will reveal Gods purpose and plan in your life if you dare fast, pray, study and learn the power of quiet time. Jesus had to steal away from the crowd and spend time with his Father in the mountains, to pray, study, reflect, meditate and center his spirit. If fasting and prayer were the disciplines of Jesus, should not this be followed by us? Join with us this season and witness a breakthrough as we fast, pray, study, reflect, meditate and learn the power of quiet time. Question: I have never fasted before? Answer: Consult your doctor first!* Fasting is not the removal of all food from your diet. Fasting is learning to discipline your mind, body and spirit to remove something you know hinders your ability to function at your highest capacity, from your life or diet. Question: Is fasting biblical? Answer: Fasting is biblical. Throughout the Old and New Testaments, fasting was used by the people of God to prepare for a spiritual challenge, hear Gods voice before making a major decision, and for removing destructive forces in your life. Fast #1 - Fasting to confront destructive forces March 5 March 11 Eat all your meals before 6:00 p.m. March 12 March 18 Eat only two meals before 6:00 p.m. March 19 March 25 - Eat only one meal a day before 6:00 p.m. March 26 April 1 Drink only juices, water and/or tea April 2 April 8 Eat only fruits and vegetables before 6:00 p.m. April 9 April 20 Slowly begin to add meat to your diet Fast #2 The Daniel Fast (Taken from the book of Daniel). When Daniel was captured by the Babylonians, he asked of the Babylonians if he, along with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, could fast eating only fruits and vegetables so they would be prepared to confront the Babylonian king. March 5 March 11 Eat all meals before 6:00 p.m. March 12 March 18 Eat only two meals a day before 6:00 p.m. March 19 March 25 Eat only fruits and vegetables before 6:00 p.m. March 26 April 1 Eat one meal a day before 6:00 p.m., meat may be added. April 2 April 8 Eat two meals a day before 6:00 p.m., meat may be added April 9 April 20 Eat three meals a day before 6:00 p.m. Fast #3 - Removing certain foods or items from your diet or life. One type of fasting is to remove certain foods from your diet, such as fried foods, sweets, sodas or refined sugar and/or flour. *Please seek the advice of your primary care provider/doctor before beginning a fast that involves restricting food/calories and/or medication. Your doctor can help you design a fasting plan that protects your health and wellbeing. This is extremely important if you are pregnant or have a medical condition. Medical condition examples include, but are not limited to those who have a chronic disease such as diabetes, HIV/AIDS, hypertension, heart disease, cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, recent surgery, etc.

Hallelujah! This week we surpassed an important milestone as we moved past the thousand pledge mark, and as of March 25th, 1,062 members/families have made pledges to our Raise the Roof campaign. Those pledges now total $4.25 million.
RAISE THE ROOF
At this time, just about half of our members that Opted-In to the Raise the Roof Campaign have actually pledged to the campaign. Of those 1,000 or so remaining, if those pledges average just $250 a year, we would exceed our goal. If you have yet to pledge, please prayerfully consider doing so during this season of Lent. As we celebrate our risen Savior this Easter, what a wonderful blessing to have achieved our pledge goal, and be on our way to fulfilling the vision for our new "Green" roof, as well as other critical infrastructure improvements to our church home.
