Monsak Pimsarn Project Assignment Numerical Methods for engineering Automotive Engineering Master Degree Program Graduate School King Mongkuts Institute of Technology Topics: Introduction Nowadays, the most vehicles that the world citizens use for travel are cars. Car is invented for more than 100 years, started with the Benzs car in the last 19 century. At first cars are built for only the wealth people and become for the common people when Henry Ford invented the car mass production system. For many years later, Cars have many types that can use for the different situations. One of the situations that is so important for the pioneer or go to the offroad way is the off-road car. The off-road car is very necessary for the village or anywhere those are very hard to make the road such as the village that locates on the high hill. One of the best off-road cars is Suzuki Caribian SJ413 because it is very small and maneuverability if it fall in the hole it can climb up easier than the other off-road car. So, In this project I want to analyze the SJ413 structure but it is not the same as the real chassis because it is too difficult for me now.

Finite Element Method Asst.Prof.Dr.Monsak Pimsarn Problem statement The statement of this problem is the car has the acceleration 27.78 m/s^2 clash with the front car that has the mass of 1 ton. Assume that the back of the front car touch to the front of the SJ413 chassis completely.

Finite Element Method Asst.Prof.Dr.Monsak Pimsarn Description of finite element model I used Catia to create the chassis model and analyze by the following conditions: The weight of the front car 1000 kg = 1000*9.81 N = 9810 N The acceleration of the SJ413 when have the accident clash 27.78 m/s^2

Figure 4 the chassis model create by Catia When I set the situation I fix the back of the chassis, apply force to the front of the chassis 9810 N in direction of go to the back of chassis and apply the acceleration at the front of the chassis as the figure

Figure 9 Stress for Analysis

Finite Element Method Asst.Prof.Dr.Monsak Pimsarn Results and Discussions From Analysis, The chassis seems to be strong enough for the load and can absorbed the force that given. The maximum stress is 5.64342e+006 N/m2. The strain energy is 4.709e-001 J. When focus on the structure at the front of the chassis does not have any stress in the red color different from the back area that has the red color at the conjuction of the structure like the figure below.

Figure 11 Front area of the chassis

Finite Element Method Asst.Prof.Dr.Monsak Pimsarn So anyway, this chassis is not the same of the real chassis of the SJ413. The real chassis has the bend area that may not stronger than this chassis. The problem of me why not create the real dimension is because the blueprint does not have the exact dimension about the bending area on the side view so I cannot drawing it correctly.
