DVR-108 / DVR-A08XL Integrated Technologies

Both the DVR-108 and DVR-A08XL incorporate the following integrated technologies.
Electro/Mechanical:
1) Liquid Crystal Tilt/Thickness Compensator 2) Ultra-DRA (Ultra Dynamic Resonance Absorber - Low Vibration Mechanism) 3) Smart Laser Driver
www.pioneeraus.com.au/computer/

4) QuietDrive - Honeycomb Chassis / Fanless Design (DVR-A08XL only)

Software/Command:
5) Precision Recording Technology 6) DRT-DM (Distributed Real-Time Defect Management) 7) QuietDrive Quiet Firmware and Utility (DVR-A08XL only)

The following slides detail these technologies

1. Liquid Crystal Tilt/Thickness Compensator

The DVR-108 and the DVR-A08XL use what is called a Liquid Crystal Element as its Tilt and Thickness Compensator Mechanism. The Liquid Crystal Compensator operates on two levels: It offers the same performance as a mechanical tilt compensator, using fewer moving parts. Fewer moving parts represents fewer mechanical failures. The major difference when compared to a standard mechanical tilt mechanism, is its ability to handle Thick or Thin media. This is an advantage which NO mechanical tilt mechanism can overcome. The principle of the system is that the coma aberration or spherical aberration, which are caused by a tilted discs or discs of different thicknesses, can be compensated-for by changing the refractive index of the Liquid Crystal Element which is incorporated in the optical pick-up assembly.

2. Ultra-DRA system
Ultra Dynamic Resonance Absorber, Low Vibration Mechanism

Pioneers Ultra-DRA system reduces the vibration and achieves high-quality writing. Ultra-DRA efficiently reduces vibration caused by an imbalanced disc. Ultra DRA is especially effective during high-speed disc rotation. I.E. when writing at 8X, 12X or 16X speeds (Zone-CLV). The DVR-108 and the DVR-A08XL significantly reduce the effects of these vibrations with the implementation of Ultra DRA technology. Thus allowing the high precision servo system to keep stable during recording or playback at high speeds. This technology has been developed from our DVD-ROM drive technology.

3. Smart Laser Driver To reduce the signal delay and to keep this loss to minimum, the Strategy Circuitry has been moved onto the Pick Up Assy. This is known as Smart Laser Driver. Smart Laser Driver: Writing Circuitry is packed into the Laser Driver IC

4. QuietDrive - Honeycomb Chassis

The DVR-A08XLs Honeycomb chassis reduces the drives resonance

Honeycomb chassis
When a discs rotation gets faster, the sweeping-wind noise levels become much more audible. To dampen this noise level, the DVR-A08XL has employed a Honeycomb Chassis design in order to reduce the noise vibration made by the hard upper shell. Additional dustabsorbing and noise-absorbing pads are placed on the internal side of the shell.
The DVR-A08XL employs a Honeycomb chassis for quieter operating performance. Combined with Quiet Firmware and its Fanless Design, the drives noise is further reduced by up to 75%

4. QuietDrive Fanless Design

The DVR-A08XL does not use an internal cooling fan or exhaust fan (also applicable for DVR-108 Bulk Model)

With continued development and refinement, DVD writers can achieve recordings at ultra-high speed without the need for an additional cooling fan in order to reduce any internally-generated heat. Recap of QuietDrive Technologies: Honeycomb Chassis Quiet Firmware Fanless Design
