At its height, in 1860, the Shaker village of Mount Lebanon, New York, had more than 100 buildings and spanned The Great Barn in the 19th century 6,000 acres. The Great Stone Barn at Mount Lebanon was a monumental project set in motion by the North Family in October of 1858. It was the largest stone barn in America when it was built in 1859 and was intended to serve as a productive agricultural machine and an impressive statement to the outside world of the Shakers success and technological advancement. A fire in 1972 destroyed much of the building, leaving only its masonry walls The remains of the Great Barn after the 1972 fire standing. Mr. Watson will discuss the barns heritage as well as the project underway to stabilize the landmark structure. The event is free. Join them at 5:30 p.m. at the Club for a Meet the Speaker reception followed by the program at 6 p.m. For more information contact Ned Pratt, SAH President, nedpratt66@aol.com

For those households with more than one member under a single account number, the additional card is beneath the top card. All members receive new cards each year. The expiration date refers to the expiration of the card, not your membership. Please contact Ellen if there is a problem with your card or if you did not receive one. $5 Tax Fund Increase As a reminder, the Board approved a $5 increase in the monthly property tax assessment. The increase begins this month and is reflected on your current billing statement. Money collected from this assessment goes into our property tax fund and is used solely for paying our property taxes. Total revenue collected from the assessment has shrunk due to a drop in membership. The modest increase will bring us back to an appropriate level of dollars in the fund.
