Leading-edge Dell/EMC Storage Systems Bring High-End Functionality at Mid-Tier Affordability Storage capabilities that were once only relevant to high-end enterprise-class storage systems are now necessary criteria in smaller businesses and departments within larger enterprises. Criteria such as a proven architecture and data availability and integrity, all at an affordable price, are necessities in todays mid-tier market. Dell/EMC storage meets these criteria. From the entry-level Dell/EMC AX100i, AX100 and CX300 to the robust CX500, powerful CX700 and flexible NS500G, these storage systems offer a balanced mix of features, power, capacity and versatility to help you gain the most value for your organization. Dell/EMC Architecture Built to Last, Built for Value Grow when and how you need to with one of the industrys safest investments. Protect past, present, and future investments with data-in-place upgrades between new and existing CX systems, consistent software capabilities among generations, and non-disruptive hardware and software upgrades. Dell/EMC networked storage systems feature a high availability architecture that enables the AX100i and AX100 along with the CX and NS series to span a broad range of storage solutions, from the workgroup to the data center including SAN, NAS and DAS environments. Dell/EMCs CX series arrays can scale from five disk drives all the way to 240 without having to transfer data1. Plus, the modular design of the CX series systems enables you to start with smaller configurations, the CX300 array for example, and grow to the CX500 or CX700 arrays as your needs and your business expand.

AX100i, you gain the choice of a non-Fibre Channel solution with this iSCSI array. The AX100i connects as many as eight servers using standard IP infrastructure so that you can enjoy the benefits of a SAN on your LAN. The AX100 and CX arrays utilize the full potential of Fibre Channel by integrating 2Gbs Fibre Channel and delivering both high data throughput and high I/O performance. Yet they provide exceptional flexibility by also supporting

ATA disk drives as a lower cost alternative to Fibre Channel technology. Dell/EMC AX100i and AX100 Storage Arrays Each Dell/EMC system is designed to meet the particular needs of your organization during different phases of its growth. For instance, the AX100i and AX100 RAID arrays are ideal for organizations implementing their first storage network, including those moving from Direct Attach Storage solutions. The AX100 is also perfect for customers wanting a SAN-capable DAS system to be able to easily expand storage capability in the future. And the AX100i solution makes it simple to implement a SAN using familiar and well-understood IP equipment. Both systems deliver high availability storage and are easy to install, even for people with little IT knowledge. These customer-installable arrays featuring integrated management software are easy to manage from virtually anywhere. In fact the Dell/EMC AX100i and AX100 are the first SANs specifically designed to be easy to install, easy to use and easy on the budget for small organizations and workgroups making them exceptionally cost-effective solutions for your first SAN. Dell/EMC CX300 Storage Array
Dell/EMC CX300
For customers who require higher-level performance and scalability than the AX100i and AX100 storage systems offer, the Dell/EMC CX300 array is similarly small in size and price, but offers large capacity. The CX300 boasts cached performance of up to 680MB/s and 50,000 I/Os per second. Available in a rack-mount chassis, the Dell/EMC CX300 provides an attractive storage entry point of just five disk drives that scale dynamically to 60. The Dell/EMC CX300 storage system is ideal for organizations deploying cost-effective Windows, Linux, NetWare and UNIX workgroup SAN and direct-attach storage solutions. It offers the ease of management and performance required by companies running file/print, e-mail, light database and Web services applications. Dell/EMC CX500 Storage Array For customers who want high performance and mirroring capabilities, the Dell/EMC CX500 array extends the CX family into the heart of the mid-tier storage market. The CX500 delivers exceptional performance with cached throughput rates of up to 760MB/s and 120,000 I/Os per second along with providing up to 35.7TB of raw storage. The CX500 array delivers this tremendous amount of power in an amazingly small form factor. The entry CX500

configuration is only 4U high and fits in an industry-standard rack. The CX500 can be configured with as few as five and up to 120 disk drives in a maximum of 26U of rack space. Dell/EMC CX700 Storage Array For customers who demand enterprise-class storage functionality, the CX700 array expands storage infrastructure easily beyond the CX500. The Dell/EMC CX700 provides one of the industrys most powerful mid-tier storage platforms. The CX700 delivers over 1,520MB/s of cached throughput and more than 200,000 cached I/Os per second. Additionally, the CX700 can be configured with five to 240 disk drives, and it fits easily in an

industry-standard rack.
Dell/EMC NS500G NAS Gateway The NS500G is an enterprise-class NAS device that offers outstanding flexibility and choice for Dell customers looking to consolidate their file serving needs. It converts file data to block data so that it can be stored on a CX SAN array instead of on a separately managed NAS device. Not only does this help improve SAN utilization and simplify operations, it brings SAN performance and data protection to NAS applications while minimizing costs. With dual Pentium 4 processors and 4GB of DDR RAM memory, the NS500G NAS gateway offers excellent performance. Its enterprise-class features include 2x2Gbs Fibre Channel ports and 4X10/100/1000 BaseT ports. The NS500G NAS gateway can significantly improve the storage utilization rate of high value SAN attached storage, thereby helping organizations to receive a higher return on their SAN investments. Continuous Availability and Data Integrity to Keep Your Business Running A high-performance array such as the CX700 is meaningless without uninterrupted information access. All Dell/EMC systems feature advanced high availability technology designed to keep your information where you need it when you need it. With Dell/EMC products, your data is protected at the fundamental storage processor level in addition to being protected throughout the data path as it travels and is stored in your network. Each storage processors cache mirrors the other processors cache. As a result, the write cache in each storage processor contains both its own primary cached data and a secondary copy of the cache of its peer storage processor. If a storage processor fails, the cached data in the surviving storage processor, both primary and secondary, are immediately written to disk ensuring writes are safely stored. Whats more, if your power should fail, full-system battery backup and an orderly shutdown process saves cached data on disks to provide data protection. RAID Flexibility for Easy Configuration Dell/EMC CX systems also offer a variety of RAID data-protection choices. These include RAID levels 1/0, 0, 1, 3 and 5 (RAID 1/0 and RAID 5 are offered on the AX100i and AX100). All levels can co-exist in the same array simultaneously to match the right protection characteristics to the value of the data. All disks are dual-ported for redundant access should one port fail. And all major Dell/EMC components such as power supplies, disk drives and storage processors are capable of being replaced without shutting down your entire system or disrupting data access. Dell/EMC products and services provide you with a complete solution for data availability and integrity. The AX100i and AX100 storage arrays offer data integrity with battery-backed cache, cache de-staging, hot disk sparing and active/active failover storage processor modules. Likewise, continuous cache and disk data integrity detection/correction, fault isolation, automatic diagnosis and phone-home capabilities round out the CX series data integrity features. As a result, you can rely on peace-of-mind and a cost-effective storage system designed to help your organization achieve its goals. Match Drive Technologies to Application and Performance Requirements The Dell/EMC AX100i and AX100 support the lower cost, SATA (Serial Advanced Technology Attachment) hard drive, while the Dell/EMC CX series and the NS500G supports both Fibre Channel and ATA hard drives. This deployment flexibility enables customers to better match their application requirements with their performance and cost requirements. ATA devices, which attach to the CX line, are ideal for: Backup-to-disk applications improving their service levels over traditional tape solutions Data replication deploying low cost ATA drives with EMC SnapView and MirrorView replication storage2 Large file applications enabling applications that can handle massive data sets
