The traffic chaos that followed Mondays closing of two Turcot Interchange ramps for repairs may foreshadow turmoil to come. In two months, major work begins on the new Turcot, with the two-year shutdown of an east-west artery used by 21,000 vehicles daily StJacques St. in Notre-Dmede-Grace. And there will be a lot more roadwork to come during the six-year, $3.7-billion project to rebuild Quebecs busiest highway tangle. In March 2013, Quebec announced $40 million in Turcot mitigation measures aimed at making transit more attractive and convincing drivers to leave their cars at home during construction. A year later, most measures are still works in progress.

Located between Highway 440 in Laval and Highway 40 in St-Laurent. Located between Bouchard St. in Dorval and 10th Ave. in Lachine, it would replace the current temporary lane, which is on the highways shoulder. Lane should speed up buses travelling between western N.D.G. and Vendme mtro station. At the intersection with Angrignon Blvd.

Transport Quebec provided funding for a study on the proposed bus lane, but the AMT says it is still in talks with transit agencies about their needs. Work started last year. The STM says the lane should be finished in 2014, but referred questions about the timing to Transport Quebec, which did not provide an answer by press time.
