The Human Resources Department administers the recruitment of applicants for full-time and part-time staff vacancies. Vacant
positions are published weekly in our Job Opportunities List. You can also remain up to date by calling our 24-hour Job
Vacancy Line - (919) 319-4500, message code 283 and then the applicable Job Category number or by visiting our web site -
www.townofcary.org and selecting "Employment". If you are interested in a position that is not on our Job Opportunities List, do not
complete an employment application. Instead, fill out an Employment Interest Card so we can notify you if the position becomes open
within six months (Police and Firefighter positions - one year). Employment Interest Cards are available from Human Resources or you
may indicate interest through our web site.
OBTAINING AN APPLICATION
The Town of Cary application is available 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday from the Town's Human Resources Office, may be
downloaded from our web site www.townofcary.org, or may be sent to you via US Mail. However, we cannot guarantee that
applications that are mailed out will be received in time for applicants to meet the closing dates
You must complete and sign the Town's application form and the supplement. We do not accept letters or resumes in lieu of
an application. Your application form is our primary source of information in considering you for employment. Please follow all
instructions and answer questions completely. Applications should be typed or completed in black ink. Identify the vacancies in which
you are interested by title and vacancy number.
If you want to apply for more than one vacancy, you may make a photocopy of the completed application to use for other
vacancies provided the signature and date on each photocopied application is an original signature/date. Incomplete
applications or supplements will not be considered. Providing false or misleading information or documentation or concealing
requested information to gain employment may result in your application being disqualified or in your dismissal, if employed. The
disclosure of Equal Opportunity Information is voluntary. Its sole use is to monitor our recruitment efforts. This information is not shared
with the hiring department and in no way affects you as an applicant.
We accept applications only for positions for which we are actively recruiting. For most positions, our minimum recruitment period is
approximately 2 weeks. To ensure consideration, a Town of Cary application must be received in the Human Resources Office by 5:00
p.m. on the vacancy closing date. Postmarks are not considered. A staff member is in the Human Resources Office until 5:00 p.m.

SCREENING, REFERRAL, AND STATUS
You will ONLY be contacted by the Town of Cary hiring departmental representative if he/she desires to discuss the vacancy further or to
arrange a personal interview. Due to the volume of applications received, not all applicants receive interviews nor do we contact all
applicants regarding the status of his/her application.
Your application will be considered only for those vacancies you specify by title and vacancy number. Your education,
experience, skills, work record and availability will be evaluated in relation to job requirements. Based on that evaluation, a limited
number of applications will be referred to the hiring department.

REAPPLYING
If you wish to apply for another vacancy at a later date, you may use the application already on file providing that it is less than 30 days
old and for a position in the same occupational area. You must complete and sign a Request for Additional Employment
Consideration form and submit it to Human Resources. To assure consideration, the form must be received in the Human Resources
Office by 5:00 p.m. on the closing date.
PROBATIONARY PERIOD
Most new employees are subject to a probationary period of at least six (6) months. If performance and conduct meet acceptable
standards, a regular appointment is given. If not, employment may be terminated any time during the period. Police officers and
firefighters serve at least a twelve-(12) month probationary period.
EMPLOYEE BENEFITS
A complete listing of our Employee Benefits can be accessed at our web site www.townofcary.org. Part-time employees, working at least
20 hours a week, are eligible for pro-rata leave benefits, for medical insurance benefits (however, they must share the premium costs)
but not for tuition assistance. Part-time employees working 20 hours a week or less may not participate in the retirement system, nor do
they receive the 401(k) contribution. Temporary employees are not eligible for most benefits.
