About This Course: Math 144 is an an intensive refresher course combining all topics of Math 141 and Math 142. Students completing Math 144 may not receive graduation credit for Math 141 and/or Math 142. Course objectives may be found at: http://www.edcc.edu/courseproposal/Official_Syllabi/_mathnaturalscience/MATH/ Prerequisite: Placement into Math 144 via Accuplacer (a score 60 or higher on the College Level Math segment) and high school precalculus or the equivalent. Text: Precalculus (Third Edition) by Carl Stitz and Je Zeager. If you order online, use the code SUMMERBOOKS before September 30 to receive a 20% discount.) Calculator: A graphing calculator (such as a TI-83 or TI-84) is required. These calculators (but no other electronic device) may be used during in-class exams. You must use your own calculator during exams; no sharing is allowed. Calculators with CAS capabilities (such as the TI-89) are not allowed on exams. Attendance: You are expected to attend every lecture, but attendance will not be taken. Homework: Exercises will be assigned from the text (and other sources) at the end of most lectures. It is expected that you will work all of these and ask questions in class or during oce hours about any you do not understand. Activities: Several class activities, each worth 5 points, will be assigned. You must be present for in-class work and submit take-home work by the beginning of the next class. Your best 10 scores will be used to compute your grade. Online Quizzes: Numerous quizzes will be available in the online classroom (see below). At the end of the quarter, the total points possible will be scaled to 50 points. Exams: There will be three midterm exams, the lowest of which will be dropped before computing your course grade; each is worth 50 points. Final Exam: Wednesday, December 7, 11:30a1:20p. The exam, worth 100 points, will be comprehensive. Grading: There are 300 points possible in this course. If you earn 95% or more, you will receive a 4.0; 70% corresponds to a 2.0 and 54% to a 0.7; 53% or lower will result in a 0.0; grades between 0.7 and 4.0 will be assigned 2 x 3.6, where G represents your course grade and x represents your point total. The using the function G(x) = 75 V and I grades will be assigned only in extraordinary circumstances, and only if the student is passing the class as of the withdrawal deadline (November 14). It is your responsibility to withdraw from the course prior to November 14 if you do not wish to receive a numerical grade. Academic Dishonesty: You are expected to do all of your own work on exams and quizzes. Any cheating will be reported to the Vice President for Student Services, and any other appropriate actions will be taken (including, at a minimum, assigning a score of 0 for the exam or quiz in question).

You can now click on the Math 144 link to access the classroom.
