Fiji Welcomes Lifting Of Travel Bans By Australia, NZ

The Fijian interim government has welcomed the decision by Australia 4 and New Zealand to lift existing travel sanctions on senior Fijian officials. The government in Suva said in a statement, it "always believed the sanctions were ill conceived and served only to discourage talented and qualified individuals from serving Fijian people." "The removal of sanctions is a positive step towards restoring normal relations between our governments," the statement said. The lifting of the travel sanctions were announced by Australia and New Zealand on Monday. The bans have been in place since December 2006, following the military coup that brought Mr Bainimarama to power. The recent move is the latest by the Australian Foreign Minister, Julie Bishop, to restore relations with Fiji in recognition of progress towards a democratic election. Ms Bishop said the decision was in line with the Australian Government's policy of re-engagement and normalisation of bilateral relations with Fiji. Her New Zealand counterpart, Murray McCully, said the removal of remaining bans recognised the progress being made in Fiji towards holding free and fair elections. He said the long-awaited Electoral Decree has been published, an elections supervisor appointed and more than half a million people have been registered to vote. The sanctions affected interim prime minister Frank Bainimarama, his ministers, senior military and judicial figures and their families and have been in place for seven years. 4 Earlier this month, Mr Bainimarama stepped down as commander of Fiji's military in order to contest the 4 elections. Ms Bishop said Australia welcomed the opportunity to support Fiji's return to democracy within the Pacific family. She said the Australian government was confident that lifting travel restrictions would lay a framework for closer dialogue and cooperation with Fiji on bilateral and regional issues. Ms Bishop has promised Australia will Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop meets with Fiji's interim leader work with the interim government of Frank Bainimarama in Suva in February 2014 Fiji and other donors to support Fiji's free media," she said. expects Julie Bishop to reinforce it." election preparations. Facebook post reveals illegal intentions to bypass traffic enforcement A recent local Facebook post advertising the sale of illegal digital radar laser detectors has sparked an investigation by police. You can beat the police, beat the radar guns and cheat the law but you cannot protect your life on the road if you are speeding, said Director Traffic Control Unit, Senior Superintendent of Police Mahesh Mishra in response to questions about the illegal sale. He expressed his disappointment about vehicle owners and drivers trying to cheat the law and escape from the speed radar guns. His concerns follow a post on the social network site, Facebook, seeking interest in purchases of Digital Radar Laser Detectors after they were shipped into the country. This is illegal and whoever is doing it will be taken to task, SSP Mishra said. A laser detector in vehicles alerts the drivers of police radar guns from a distance and drivers speeding are likely to reduce their speed and cheat the law Under the Land Transport Act, no vehicle is to be fitted with the radar laser detector as it is an offence, SSP Mishra said. Our investigation team is already looking into the matter and once this person who is taking orders on Facebook is located, we will bring him in for investigation. We strongly recommend people not to get this fitted in their vehicles because one can cheat the system but it will not always be able to protect itself on the road as anything can happen and majority of accidents are caused by speeding. SSP Mishra said they would impound vehicle found with the illegal devices and take the driver to task.

Saneem Right Choice For Fiji Supervisor Of Elections: Electoral Commission

While questions have been raised that the Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem is too young for the job, Fiji Electoral Commission says he is the right choice. Commission chairman Chen Bunn Young said the commission reviewed the 13 applications for the position and majority of the applicants did not have 6 the necessary qualifications. It was obviously one of the crucial points that had to be taken into 6 consideration, Young said. He said the commission envisaged that the polling date was going to be September 17. Fiji Sets September 17 As General Election Date

Fiji is to hold its first general election since the 2006 coup on September 17, its military rulers have announced. The news came less than a month after Frank Bainimarama stepped down as its military leader so he could contest the polls. Mr Bainimarama led the coup that ousted democratically-elected PM Laisenia Qarase in December 2006. Fiji experienced four coups between 1987 and 2006. Australia and New Zealand imposed sanctions following the 2006 coup, while the Commonwealth fully suspended Fiji's membership in 2009, after the military government refused to call polls by 2010. Some restrictions have been lifted as plans for the election have progressed, however. Mohammed Saneem will oversee the elections as the new Supervisor of Elections. He resigned from his positions as Permanent Secretary for Justice and acting Permanent Secretary Responsible for Elections to take up his new post. The new Electoral Decree governing the conduct of the elections was also released. Attorney-General and Minister Responsible for Elections Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum caught political parties by surprise when he announced the comprehensive election package. The parties were only expecting the electoral laws. Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said after making the major announcements in Suva: Now, its over to the parties. For weeks leading up to the announcements, parties had been clamouring for the election details. Now they have them. The election day will be a national holiday to facilitate voting.

Integrated system to boost countrys border security The countrys border security has been boosted with the launch of Integrated Border Management System (IBMS) servers at the Nadi International Airport. Minister for Immigration Joketani Cokanasiga said the implementation of the IBMS was successfully launched in April last year and have undergone further developments. Within the past 12 months there were further developments, new software created and aligned, to have the system communicating to each other and more importantly the retrieving of data for analysis purposes which will then assist in decision making, Mr Cokanasiga said. He reiterated that the Roadmap for Democracy, and Sustainable SocioEconomic Development (RDSSED) 20092014 mandated a review of all Border Control Systems operational

machinery. Paramount to this outcome is the improvement of Border Control Systems to meet the evolving transnational techno-criminal activities in the world today. The need to improve border security, facilitate the mobility of people and to guard against irregular migration are national objectives which every sovereign country shares. Fiji is no exception. Mr Cokanasiga said the new servers would ensure that required data and information required was captured, stored and distributed on a timely basis. Given the modern challenges posed by migration in the 21st Century, the IBMS has proven as a more effective tool in capturing migration data, and in order to make full and effective use of this technological advancement, the installation and use of these servers are inevitable, the minister said.

Mul Chand Prasad returns home to invest and provide boost in agricultural exports
A Fijian businessman who left the country in 1987 has returned to give something back to the place he calls home. JMO Exporters (Fiji) Limited managing director Mul Chand Prasad said he was excited about starting a venture in Fiji during the ground-breaking ceremony for their new factory in Navua. I have factories overseas and better opportunities; I just thought why not Fiji and give work opportunities to locals, he said. We have six retail outlets spread across South East corners of Queensland and wholesale customer base in all Australian cities and major municipalities. Mr Prasad said he bought the freehold land for his Navua factory from an uncle. The factory I will build will cost me about $3 million and I have already injected $1 million so far, Mr Prasad said. Chief guest and Permanent Secretary for Agriculture Ropate Ligairi said it was another milestone in enhancing the linkage of farmers to the export world. This day will go down in the history books on the growth of the Agricultural export industry in Fiji, he said. Some new products that have never been exported from Fiji like Giant Taro or Via will be exported from this factory and the wide scope of varieties would mean new additional opportunities that all stakeholders can work together to exploit. To explore and take advantage of these opportunities, our Government has introduced tax incentives to support farmers and stakeholders, Mr Ligairi said. JMO Exporters new factory is expected to be completed in six months. New Government initiative Mr Ligairi highlighted the new initiative that Government has put in place whereby young interested Fijians are provided with the opportunity to pursue farming as a business through the Commercial Farmers Scholarship. He said the foundation of the project was built on trust, which was the way forward for the new Fiji.

Fiji's Elections Office is looking 8 at the option of introducing Braille ballot papers for visually impaired voters. Newly appointed Elections Supervisor Mohammed Saneem said while he is not aware if any country in the world is using Braille as a ballot paper, it could be an option to consider and they also need to take the expenses allocated with that into consideration. Affairs, the Hon Julie Bishop. FABC President Kalpesh Solanki said this is great news not only to their members but also to all Fijians.

on September 17, adding that his goverment has provided support, and will continue to do so to ensure elections are free and fair. He said the lifting of bans on top Fijian officials were in recognition of steps taken by Fiji towards holding democratic election. Meanwhile, in a statement, New Zealand's Labour Leader Davind Cunliffe has backed the lifting of Fiji travel sanctions. Fiji has announced its election date which is a strong move towards democracy and multiracial elections. As such we support lifting sanctions. However there is still work to be done. It is important that restrictions on media in Fiji are lifted as they will be a key part of free and fair elections. Labour will continue to monitor developments in Fiji to help ensure that there is genuine progress towards transparent and democratic processes in the lead up to the election." The Fijian Government also issued a statement, pleased with the decisions by the New Zealand and Australian governments to lift "ill conceived" sanctions adding that it was a positive step towards restoring normal relations between the three governments.

So, we are very pleased with this news as it creates a great platform for reinvigorating trade relations as well as investment between both countries, Solanki said in a statement. Removal of these restrictions also shows commitment and positive progress by the Australian Government towards normalising relations with Fiji as Fiji heads towards general elections, and we look forward to continuing dialogue between both Governments, Solanki went on to say.

3 In Custody Over Illicit Drugs Find

A 43-year-old barman, a 67-yearold foreign national and a 33-yearold woman of Nadi have been taken into custody in relation to a parcel of baby items sent from Burundi which allegedly contained illicit drugs. According to Police, Custom officers had intercepted the parcel containing some baby items on the 26th of March and upon initial investigations and tests found substances believed to be illicit drugs. The barman was arrested at the Nadi International airport when he went to claim the parcel. Upon questioning, he informed officers that he was picking up the parcel on behalf of a foreign national residing in a Holiday Apartment in Nadi. Police conducted a search at the apartment and arrested the foreign national and the woman. All suspects are in police custody as investigations continue. Chief Operations Officer Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rusiate Tudravu is again reminding members of the public that they could face hefty penalties if they are found to be involved in such illegal activities. Trade Pasifika 2014 was officially opened in Fiji Tuesday night with a firm recommendation from host country Fiji for stronger intra-regional trade among Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTs). This, it believes, will provide the best platform for exchange with international trade partners, given the many challenges that characterize business and entrepreneurship in individual countries in the region. Intra-regional trade, amongst our Island countries, should be seen as a 'stepping stone' and 'building block' to trading with international partners. Therefore, there is a need for Pacific businesses and traders to come under one roof to create business linkages and synergies between importers and exporters, in order to facilitate and grow trade and business in the region, said Fiji's Permanent Secretary for Industry and Trade Shaheen Ali in his welcome speech at Tuesday night's opening reception. This ties in with our theme - we have to make it our business to create growth through exports and trade - starting with trade amongst ourselves. At the same time, if we are able to come together to develop a 'common market', with harmonized customs rules, mutual

Fiji Calls For Stronger Intra-Regional Trade Among Pacific Island Countries
agreements on biosecurity requirements and facilitation of trade in general, we will become a very attractive market of 9 million consumers for our trading partners, Ali said. For those who have been mooting the idea of trade integration in the Pacific, Trade Pasifika is by far the closest the region has come to having Pacific goods and services under one roof. The inaugural Trade Pasifika was held in Fiji in 2012 with support from most regional organisations such as the Pacific Islands Private Sector Organisation (PIPSO), Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS), Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) and the South Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO) among others. This year's event - themed 'Exporting for Growth. It's everyone's business' is only the second so far but has already proven popular among businesses in the region with 14 PICs and Territories represented. Organizers say around 100 entrepreneurs from the 14 PICTs will showcase their goods and services during the three-day expo, up from the 50 that exhibited in 2012. They will be matched with an equally keen interest from some 60 buyers who have come from as far China, Europe, Abu Dhabi and nearby markets Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific to see what businesses here have to offer. Link ups between buyers and sellers will take place within the margins of workshops and seminars, lunch and learn sessions and the general exhibition and there are expectations that new deals will be secured. A

highlight of this year's event is the focus on Youth Entrepreneurship and Women in Business and delegations from the region are predominantly made up of women. The exhibitions began Wednesday at the Vodafone Arena in the Fijian capital Suva and key trade areas showcased are agriculture, aquaculture and tourism.

FIJI has successfully integrated financial education into the school curriculum of 907 schools in Fiji since last year, says Reserve Bank of Fiji governor Barry Whiteside. Mr Whiteside said about 200,000 students were learning about basic financial skills in their classrooms. He made this announcement during a joint session of the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) Pacific Islands Working Group and the Financial Inclusion Strategy Peer Learning Working Group meeting at the Sheraton Fiji Resort and Spa in Nadi last week. Mr Whiteside said the pledge to take financial education to schools was part of a commitment to the Maya Declaration in Cancun, Mexico in 2011. "Our commitment was made in four key

areas to supporting the Fiji National Financial Inclusion Taskforce in achieving its goal of reaching 150,000 unbanked citizens, taking financial education to all schools, undertaking a data upgrade on financial inclusion and providing an enabling legislative and regulatory environment for payment systems and microfinance," Mr Whiteside said. This was the first joint session between the two groups. Mr Whiteside said other key achievements since 2011 included completing a national financial competency survey and being able to report on the AFI core set of indicators; enabling mobile operators to commence financial services, encouraging financial access points in rural areas.

Fiji's main television station has been found guilty of hate speech after it broadcast comments warning the country's military leader that the Indian minority were using him for their own ends. But the speech, by Ratu or chief Timoci Vesikula, has starkly revealed that Fiji's supposedly dormant racial tensions are a potent if suppressed force. "Race is a fact of life, and it is very difficult to reconcile our differences," Vesikula told military leader Frank Bainimarama in a meeting aired by Fiji TV. A regime-created body, Media Industry Development Authority (Mida), received a complaint from Ministry of Information secretary Sharon SmithJohns who claimed it breached the regime's Media Decree Code of Ethics. Without any hearing, chairman Ashwin Raj issued a ruling saying Vesikula was guilty of hate speech and Fiji TV has to broadcast a retraction. Vesikula could now face 10 years' jail and Fiji TV a heavy fine. Paradoxically, Mida provided a further translation of Vesikula's speech including the statement: "Even though we have lived together for a long time, you can't mix water with kerosene." Ever since staging his 2006 coup, Bainimarama has claimed to have taken race an element in all four of its coups out of Fiji politics. But Vesikula, who was a democratically elected politician, said it was indigenous

Fijians who made the country. Of Fiji's 837,000 people, 37 per cent are Indians and 56 per cent indigenous, who are now officially known as "i-Taukei". Bainimarama has called for democracyrestoring elections in September. He met Vesikula and the chiefs of the Tailevu area, traditionally restive and pro-indigenous nationalists. "There are a few issues that we need to remind you of since you're from Tailevu," Vesikula told Bainimarama in an address translated by Fiji TV. "We will be frank with you in the hope that you will take extra precautions." Using indigenous phrases, he told Bainimarama his power base was with the indigenous. "You have the i-Taukei support for the general elections but do not be mistaken that other communities will support you." Bainimarama scrapped education scholarships for i-Taukei-only students, providing instead a non-racial version. Vesikula denounced this, asking Bainimarama what he was doing and saying that while Fijians were not allowed to be called that any more, what exactly did "i-Taukei" now own. "You have taken the scholarships away. I want to ask you, what will you be keeping for us?" Mida's Raj in a statement said he found disconcerting "the complicity of select Fijian journalists and media".

A MOBILE service company has sealed a deal with a resort in Pacific Harbour to become its official information communication technology provider. Digicel Fiji Limited signed the official partnership agreement with Nanuku Resort & Spa in Suva. Nanuku Resort representative Fred Vosloh said they had been working with Digicel for the past three years. "We have a very particular, high and stagnant market while they (Digicel) have very suitable demand and it needs to be in operation. There are not a

lot of rooms for excuses because it's business we want to make sure that we exceed their expectations and not meet them," he said. Digicel Fiji ICT sales manager Ravisa Daunivuka said they approached the resort to be their ICT provider. "We are going to provide them with internet across the hotel property and come up with the best solution internet coverage and support them 24/7," he said. "We gave them a new beginning and it's appropriate that we actually do the same."

Call For End To Coup Culture

THE newly-appointed president of the National Federation Party, Tupou Draunidalo, has advised party supporters to look into the eyes of the country's future generations. "Ask yourself, am I doing enough to ensure that this child will grow up in a Fiji that is stable, secure and prosperous?" Ms Draunidalo said. She said the freedom for many Fijians was limited and that Fiji had experienced life under a military government, on and off since 1987. "The coup culture holds us back from progress and development. It keeps us in the third world in spite of all of our resources. "And it holds us back from better schools and hospitals. It holds us back from more employment creation and better wages. "It holds us back from leaving a stable, secure and prosperous Fiji to our future generations." Ms Draunidalo said the NFP was a party of respect for human rights and equality for all citizens of Fiji. "The party was in fact born out of the struggle for dignity and justice of all the ordinary people of Fiji. This is reflected in the party constitution since inception." She said the natural resources of this country belonged to the indigenous people.

TLTB Collects Rent

THE iTaukei Land Trust Board has collected $3.4million in rent subsidy for the first half of 2014, out of which $200,000 was from the second half of last year. Presenting to the Committee for Better Utilisation of Land (CBUL) meeting in Labasa on Tuesday, TLTB deputy general manager Solo Nata said they were aiming to renew and issue a total of 20,278 leases by 2016. Mr Nata said 22 sitting cane leases and seven new leases were approved last month alone. He said another 11 leases for incoming tenants were renewed between January and February this year. "There has been an increase in renewal because we have been renewing leases right up to 2015 and 2017 and on," he said. "This kind of rate is a much improved rate compared to when we first began the renewal and it is ongoing on a monthly basis."

Dengue - 5 Face Court

Trucking Business Invests

Metromix Concrete Fiji, a division of MY Group Limited, has invested into two new Forland mixer trucks for its Nadi branch. The trucks are designed specifically for construction, mixer, roll-off and municipal segments. The mixer trucks will be available for service this week. Metromix general manager Azad Ali said the trucks are built on providing rugged and durable premium products. It will meet and exceed our customers growing demand for a lighter weight, high quality and customisable products, Mr Ali said. These trucks will enable us to meet our clients in the remote areas of the western division to get the job done both efficiently and with style. Also we are concentrating in providing a happy medium plus super convenient services in the supply of concrete and aggregates into remote parts of the western division, he added. The company has five outlets in Viti Levu in Suva, Rewa, Sigatoka, Nadi and Lautoka with six mixer trucks operating in the western side.

President Pushes Awareness Role

Two Nasinu families and three companies face court proceedings for dengue-related cases. They allegedly breached the Public Health Act. The Nasinu Town Council instituted proceedings after the accused allegedly failed to comply with requirements of the Act. They allegedly did not remove their rubbish which was potentially a breeding ground for dengue mosquitoes The councils acting Health Inspector, Shelvin Singh, said the families and the companies lived and operated within their municipality. Earlier in January, we issued house to house advice and to companies to put out all their refuse within a period of time we allocated, Mr Singh said. However, some did not follow this and they have been taken to court for not destroying mosquito breeding places in their compounds. This is a violation of the Public Health Act, Mr Singh said. He said the council, since the start of last month, had been involved in the Ministry of Healths National Campaign for the fight against Dengue. We have an ongoing plan for fighting dengue through clean-up campaigns and mosquito spraying. This is on hold because of the unfavourable weather conditions we are having. He said the clean-up was to clear mosquito breeding sites and collect home rubbish and refuse. Narere and Kalabu were found with the most rubbish as they are two of the most populated areas within the Nasinu zone. He said old tires and empty plastic containers were the most refuse collected during the National Dengue Campaign that ended last week. Increasing awareness on autism in Fiji is our role as advocates, says President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau. Ratu Epeli made the comment at World Autism Awareness Day celebrations at the Suva Special School. Autism is a life-long developmental condition usually affecting children and characterised by lack of response to people as well as limited ability to communicate, he said. Unfortunately in Fiji we do not have the statistics to indicate how many children or adults live with autism. Ratu Epeli said the numbers attending special schools had been increasing, which showed that there were many more unidentified children with autism in the community. As part of my contribution, I request the relevant Government agencies to assist in collating data on autism so that more meaningful analysis and decisions could be made on how Fiji as a nation can support our people who live with autism.

PM Pays For Bus Hire

THE owner of Island Buses Limited, Vijendra Kewal, has clarified that Prime Minister Rear Admiral Voreqe Bainimarama has hired one of his buses to campaign for the election. Mr Kewal said Rear Admiral Bainimarama was paying the company for hiring the bus although he refused to disclose the cost. "The bus is only hired by him he has charted the bus. The charge, I cannot disclose. Certain customers are treated with confidentiality," he said. Mr Kewal confirmed the bus had been charted for five days three days on Viti Levu and two days on Vanua Levu. "But it might be kept for long as he might not be able to fulfill his commitments in two or three days, so he can use it for another three days. "The PM can keep the bus as long as I get my money." He said the paint on the bus would change after the PM returned the bus. Rear Admiral Bainimarama launched the campaign bus at the My Suva Picnic Park after launching the name of his proposed political party Fiji First.

Groom Faces Court After Arriving Allegedly Drunk At Adelaide Church For His Wedding
A groom has faced court after a minister refused to perform a marriage because he said the man was too drunk. Musician Jacob Francis Brookes, 41, had his buck's celebration the night before he was supposed to tie the knot back in February, in Adelaide's western suburbs. Police were called to the Uniting Church at Exeter and charged Brookes with disorderly behaviour and resisting arrest. He briefly faced Port Adelaide Magistrates Court and denied to reporters after the hearing he had been too drunk when he turned up at the church. "I had three beers, two Jamos [Jameson Whiskey], two shots of Jamo - that's

Brookes says there are things he would do differently now. "I regret choosing [that minister] as the marriage celebrant at my wedding and I had my buck's night the night before, bro. I mean, come on, we're all men here," he said. After talking to the media outside the hearing, Brookes hugged a TV reporter before walking off. His case will return to court next month.

Tsunami Generated After Shallow 8.2 Magnitude Earthquake

Earthquake Felt In Los Angeles Area Of California

A magnitude 5.1 earth quake struck the Los Angeles area of southern California, the US Geological Survey says. The quake happened at about 21:10 local time last Friday (04:10 GMT on Saturday) and its epicentre was 1 mile (2km) east of the town of La Habra. There were no immediate reports of significant damage or injuries. A 4.4-magnitude quake was felt near Los Angeles last month, rattling nerves but causing no major damage. The latest earthquake was shallow at only 1.2 miles (2km) deep, according to the USGS. It was felt across four counties, from Palm Springs in the east and Ventura County to the north, Reuters news agency reported. The Los Angeles Fire Department said it was checking buildings and transport infrastructure for damage. It said the quake was a reminder for people to be prepared. The San Andreas fault, on the edge of the Pacific tectonic plate, runs directly through California, and the western US state has long braced for a devastating quake. The 1994 Northridge quake, at 6.7 magnitude, left at least 60 people dead. A 6.9-magnitude quake in San Francisco five years earlier killed 67 people.

A mother and her partner have been jailed by the South Australian Supreme Court after a four-year-old girl died when repeatedly forced to ride a motorbike. The girl's terrified attempts were filmed by her mother, Ashlee Jean Polkinghorne. Polkinghorne, 22, and her partner, Benjamin Robert McPartland, 28, will serve at least four years in jail for manslaughter by criminal negligence. The woman's daughter, Chloe Valentine, was repeatedly put on a 50-kilogram motorbike in the backyard of the family home at Ingle Farm in January 2012 and filmed crashing into objects. The court was told the girl suffered severe injuries and was so swollen and bruised when taken to hospital that some other family members could not recognise her. During sentencing, Justice Trish Kelly said the motorbike was far too big for Chloe and she could barely touch the ground. She said the small child was extremely fearful of McPartland, and Polkinghorne had laughed as the girl fell from the bike. Justice Kelly said Polkinghorne had been prepared to let her child die rather than exercise any proper parental responsibility. She criticised the pair's failure to call an ambulance immediately when Chloe became unconscious, saying they smoked cannabis and got onto social media instead. She said the woman and her partner did not seek medical help for more than eight hours after the girl became

unconscious and only did so when she had stopped breathing. Justice Kelly also criticised Polkinghorne and McPartland for their contradictory evidence and said because neither had given evidence during the trial she found them equally to blame. "Each of you has expressed conflicting versions of the circumstances that led to her death," she said. Justice Kelly said the jail term had to reflect that a human life had been lost. She said Chloe had been a defenceless and vulnerable child. Polkinghorne was jailed for eight years and must serve at least four years and nine months. McPartland was jailed for seven years, with a non-parole term of four years and two months, reflecting his earlier guilty plea and efforts to rehabilitate. There were cheers in the courtroom as the sentence was passed and someone yelled: "Now you know how Chloe felt". A member of the family, Tricia Foord, told reporters outside the court child welfare authorities should have removed the girl from her mother. "I think when people are reporting to Families SA over 100 reports and they don't seem to do enough and remove the child ... that's all we wanted, remove the child," she said. "Plenty of families wanted to take that child and put her in a safe place, that didn't happen." Supporters of the four-year-old victim wore yellow ribbons to the sentencing, saying it had been Chloe's favourite colour.

Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau has a new definition of Canada's middle class that could exclude anyone who has some money socked away for a rainy day. "For me, it's people who live paycheque to paycheque," Trudeau said Wednesday. That's a switch from what the Liberal leader said earlier in the week. "People who live off their incomes are the middle class and those who live off their assets, their portfolios, their trust funds are not," Trudeau said Tuesday, similar to how he defined middle class a day earlier. When Trudeau raised the issue of middle class debt and financial stress in the Commons during question period, Prime Minister Stephen Harper tore into Trudeau's new paycheque-topaycheque definition of middle class. "So that would exclude, Mr. Speaker, people of modest incomes who have saved something, like pensioners, who are not living from paycheque-topaycheque," he said. "And, of course, Mr. Speaker, it would include people

Liberal Party is talking about and I suspect he doesn't either," he said. Trudeau shot back that Harper needed "to spend more time with middle class Canadians." Harper responded with more ridicule for Trudeau. "If the leader of the Liberal Party was with middle class Canadians he wouldn't actually know whether they were middle class or not," he said. Trudeau's shifting definitions come as he tries to make fighting for the middle class the Liberals' hallmark issue for next year's federal election campaign. "We are focused on helping middle class Canadians and helping Canadians who hope to achieve middle class status," he said. Trudeau has promised not to raise taxes on the middle class, but he has yet to define which tax brackets or income levels would be safe from any tax hikes under a Liberal government. Trudeau said Wednesday he'd "let economists argue about which quintile or decile (the middle class)" starts or ends at.

Justin Trudeau
who have a very affluent lifestyle and spend all their money even though they get a very large paycheque." The prime minister said Trudeau's comments leave him confused. "I have no idea what the leader of the

Carleton University economist Ian Lee took up the challenge. He said Trudeau's latest definition of middle class is meaningless because it's "a psychological, subjective test." Instead, Lee said he defines the middle class by excluding the richest and poorest Canadians from his calculations. "The top 20%, they're the rich people," he said. "The bottom 20% are the really poor people, you know, people on welfare, people in social housing." Lee said that leaves "the middle 60% of Canadians" as the middle class. He also insists the group is easily defined. "It's an empirical, measurable amount of income coming in to you," he said. The latest Statistics Canada data for families of two or more people in Lee's definition of middle class had annual incomes ranging from $43,000 to $132,000 in 2011. Lee adds that wide range captures the full gamut of middle class, including what he calls the lower and upper middle classes.

B.C. government looking at raising fines and points for those ticketed The B.C.government is aiming to increasing penalties for distracted driving before the end of the year. Currently the fine for distracted driving in B.C. is $167 dollars the second lowest in Canada. The announcement comes a day after news that a Vancouver man racked up 26 tickets and fines of $4,300 in a fouryear period. In 2012, distracted driving accidents led to more deaths than were caused by drunk driving in B.C., said Attorney General Suzanne Anton. There were 81 deaths caused by distracted driving, and 56 caused by drunk driving. Anton said she is looking at a number of approaches to the problem, including raising fines and points on driver's licences. "I think the fines will make a difference and I think the points will make a difference. Fines plus points is much more damaging to a person's record, so that's another piece that I'm having a close look at." Premier Christy Clark says she's looking forward to the changes. "I don't want to prejudge the outcome of that, but I think it's worthy of a good hard look, because if that's the reason many many people are losing their lives, we have a responsibility to address it." While the basic fine for misuse of a cellphone or hand-held electronic device is $167 in B.C., police can more than double that if they find youre driving erratically as a result. Distracted driving can also involve eating while driving or even having a dog in your lap.

Suspect Identified In Attempted Murder Of Langley Family

Andre Harvey Richard was to have no contact with estranged wife

An arrest warrant has been issued for Andre Harvey Richard. Langley RCMP say the 44-year-old is under conditions to have no contact with his estranged wife. Mounties believe Richard broke into the family home on Wakefield Drive in Willoughby and lit it on fire. Corporal Holly Marks says the woman was then assaulted with a weapon. Her daughter actually came into the room and witnessed the assault and attempted to stop it, and was assaulted herself. The mother, her 14-year-old-daughter and 8-year-old son managed to get out. The mother and daughter are being treated for non-life threatening injuries and they are currently in the hospital and the son is there with them as well but is not injured. Investigators originally thought the 44-year-old man may have been inside the home which went up in flames early Wednesday morning. They are now searching for a 2006 grey Saturn Relay van with the license plate 804-HWC. He has a history of domestic violence.

Covering the cost of health care and providing a pension for every Canadian will push the country $2.2-trillion further into debt, a new report by the Fraser Institute suggests. The analysis in the report released Tuesday calculates the liability for the current cohort of Canadians that means the promised program spending for people living today less expected tax revenues. And as the population ages and relatively fewer young Canadians enter the workplace and pay taxes to pay for program spending the shortfall, or unfunded liability, has continued to increase. It has grown by more than 20% since 2007-08. If the governments continue on the path that theyre on, something has got to give, says Charles Lammam, resident scholar in economic policy at the conservative think-tank. Taxes have to go up, or benefits for other

programs have to be reduced in order to maintain the same levels of spending we see now. The report looks at the three largest government programs: Canada Pension Plan, Old Age Security, both public health programs and medicare. These items alone account for a $2.2-trillion liability. Add in direct debt and the total unfunded liability hit $4.1-trillion in the 2011-12 fiscal year, according to the report. Theres a pretty big gap in knowledge about what needs to be done to maintain funding of these programs moving into the future, said Mr. Lammam. In addition, governments are taking on billions in debt to finance operational and capital spending. Direct borrowing for municipal, provincial and federal governments in Canada grew to $1.2-trillion in 2011-12 from $872.2-billion in 2007-08. Ontario, Quebec and Alberta are the governments with the top three liability loads, respectively. Ontario owes $1.6-trillion, Quebec $956-billion and Alberta $559.6-billion. We have programs where governments have committed themselves to providing benefits, but the programs are not fully funded, Mr. Lammam said. Economists who looked at the report said it raises some valid concerns, but appears to fail to take into consideration increased tax revenue due to economic growth. This looks like a silly exercise in trying to get people to be frightened about debt, said Stephen Gordon, an economics professor at the University of Laval. The basic point seems to be that commitments for future spending should be considered the same way that regular debt is, and thats a fair point, but it obscures the point by ignoring future revenues. Mr. Gordon noted the institutes model

for the CPP liability excluded future contributions to the program. Its absolutely wrong to conclude that theres an imminent crisis that requires action. Action has already been taken, he said. The same thing for medicare. The present value of the costs of providing health care is likely to be a very, very big number. But it should also be offset by another very, very big number that is the present value of the tax revenues that can be expected to be generated in the future. Likewise, Mike Moffatt, an assistant professor at the Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario, said the Fraser Institute was valuable for pointing out the coming decline in taxpayers relative to the expected increase in program spending. Im not sure I would call that an unfunded liabilities issue. I think its simply more of a demographic issue, he said.

Pay Up Translink Fines, ICBC Orders Drivers

Thousands of B.C. drivers are now being told they must pay old fines issued by TransLink for fare evasion if they want their auto insurance or driver's licences renewed. The unpaid tickets 37,000 of them worth $5.7 million were issued between 2002 and 2012. Provincial legislation passed in 2012 gave TransLink new powers to make fare evaders pay their fines and it also compelled ICBC to deny renewals until fines are paid in full even old ones dating back more than a decade. ICBC spokesman Adam Grossman said it took time for ICBC to make changes in its system to go after the pre-2012 fines, but it has now done so and the first "refusals to issue" on old tickets went into effect Monday. "We actually started contacting customers at the beginning of March to let them know they had outstanding transit debt on their record," Grossman said. "We're starting with those due to come in soon for either their licence or insurance renewal. We started with calls and then follow up with letters

as well and there will be notes on insurance renewal reminders that go out as well." He wasn't able to say how many drivers will be affected. In the years before the system was reformed, 85 per cent of fare evasion fines issued by Transit Police went unpaid because TransLink had no power to enforce payment. That dismal payment rate has improved. As of February, nearly 30 per cent of the 36,300 fines issued since September 2012 have been paid, generating $1.8 million since the new system took effect. Fines paid since then go to TransLink, while the money collected by ICBC on older fines goes to the province. New fare evasion fines start at $173 but climb to $213 after six months and $273 if they're unpaid after a year. TransLink can also send unpaid tickets to collection agencies. TransLink expects fare evasion will diminish further as a problem later this year when new transit faregates and the Compass card payment system are fully activated.

Changes to B.C. Ambulance Service protocols quietly introduced last fall have resulted in lengthy emergency response times and an increase in patient risk, according to Vancouvers fire chief. John McKearney on Tuesday presented to city council a report on the impact of changes to BCASs resource allocation plan, implemented in late October. Chiefly, dozens of call types including serious falls and some motor-vehicle injuries have been downgraded from emergency to routine, resulting in response times to those calls being an average of 21 minutes slower, he said. Once they move from emergency to routine on these incidents it changes the whole timeline to get to a call, Chief McKearney said in an interview after his presentation with city manager Penny Ballem. My officers have given me numerous cases where the patient is in distress, the [call type] is routine and it has taken way beyond what is an appropriate level of service. Chief McKearneys findings are specific to Vancouver, but he said the changes impact all municipal fire services in the province. Further, the fire chief says the changes were implemented suddenly, with no prior consultation with fire services or the public. We woke up on the morning of the 29th of October and the calls started to come in from my officers that the ambulances arent showing up to these calls, he said. When we finally got informed we got information from the Fire Chiefs Association [of B.C.] at about 10:30 a.m. [we learned] the ambulance service had instituted this five hours before, at 5:30 a.m. But William Dick, vice-president of medical programs at B.C. Emergency Health Services (BCEHS), the agency that oversees the BCAS, said the changes were made based on medical evidence and scientific data. In fact, BCEHS struck a committee of experts, including physicians, dispatchers,

first responders and data analysts, and reviewed data from the past two years worth of calls prior to making the changes, Dr. Dick said. Of 868 call types, a total of 74 were reclassified 39 of which were downgraded from lights and sirens to routine. This has resulted in ambulances getting to the sickest patients an average of one minute faster provincially while reducing the amount of high-speed, lights and sirens driving they do, increasing public safety, Dr. Dick said. Lower priority patients are waiting an average of six minutes longer provincewide, he conceded. In the past, [these decisions have been made] with just anecdotal evidence, hearsay and best opinion, basically. This is the first time that weve used a scientifically valid, statistically rigorous way to actually look at these calls. He stressed the changes are not about reducing costs, but rather using resources in a smarter way. Both Chief McKearney and Dr. Dick were unclear as to each others data. I cant speak to his information, Dr. Dick said. I just know that it certainly doesnt come close to matching ours and I think I have a really robust global overview of whats happening in the province and each municipality. I am absolutely confident in my data. Chief McKearney included five casestudy examples in his presentation. In one, a 65-year-old man fell, suffering a large laceration to his head. Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services (VFRS) attended and requested that dispatch upgrade the call to emergency; BCAS arrived 49 minutes later. In another, a 55-year-old man fell down two flights of stairs, suffering head trauma. VFRS attended and, after two calls for an urgent upgrade to emergency, BCAS arrived 40 minutes later. Dr. Dick called the examples extreme outlier cases. After Chief McKearneys presentation on Tuesday, Vancouver city council voted to write a letter to B.C. Health Minister Terry Lake asking the province to review the matter.

Many websites that your child visits have public groups and forums where the members share information. Educate your child about the dangers of sharing personal information as this could lead to identity theft, cyber bullying or internet fraud. Niharika met a boy on Facebook and decided that she was in love with him. A few months later, the 16-year-old ran away from home to be with him. Fortunately for her, the boy, who did not know that she was a minor, did not take advantage of the girl; instead, he escorted her home and explained the entire situation to her distraught parents. Most children are not as lucky. Drawn to social networking and gaming sites that also help them stay connected with their friends and strangers over chat windows, young children are increasingly falling prey to Internet predators, or being drawn into unsavoury bullying online. Often, unsure of how to deal with the situation, and afraid to talk to their parents for fear of censure or being misunderstood, they allow the problem to escalate out of hand. All of this can be remedied by children knowing how to behave online. So, its up to you to teach them Internet etiquette, and what constitutes bad online behaviour. Follow these pointers and secure their online activities: 1. Information-misinformation Many websites that your child visits have public groups and forums where the members share information. Educate your child about the dangers of sharing personal information as this could lead to identity theft, cyber bullying or internet fraud. 2. Meeting unknowns Lay down a rule for your child Children should not meet anyone he/ she do not know personally as it is very dangerous. Encourage kids to communicate only with people they know in person and not add random strangers as friends. 3. Name and nickname Ensure that your child does not use his/her full name on social sites as it is easy to trace your personal details. First name or a nickname is good enough. Also see that he/she uses a nickname

that does not attract inappropriate attention. 4. Emotional turmoil Warn your child not to express strong emotions via blogs, tweets or Facebook status. Explain to your child that there are predators on the lookout for such emotional vulnerabilities. 5. Cyber bullying Teach your child about cyber bullying and its impact. Tell them that if they are ever bullied online, they should talk to a trusted adult and share the details. Communicate with your child all the time and always keep an eye on his internet usage. A child will only tell you what is happening if he trusts you with his secrets. 6. Picture perfect Make sure that your child does not reveal personal information through the pictures he uploads on Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest. A random click of your car license plate, street name or school name could be an easy way to identify your child. 7. Start learning Be a student yourself. Take an interest in the websites your child visits. Read his blogs. Learn about Facebook and its privacy policies so that you can teach your child how to be safe online. 8. Rules to follow Set your own rules at home. Internet usage should be monitored. Lay down rules as to which sites your child can visit and use. Avoid setting a computer or laptop in your childs bedroom as you will never know what the child does when you are not around. Instead the computer should be set in a place where you can easily view the screen. This will discourage your child from visiting unwanted websites. 9. Age limit The recommended age for signing up for websites is usually 13 and over. Do not let your child access the sites if they are underage. 10. Gaming Ensure the kind of games your child plays online. There are a lot of adult online games that your child is not supposed to play. These games include a lot of bloodshed and sexual content which can affect your childs emotions and mindset

Anal Itching
What is anal itching? Anal itching is the irritation of the skin at the exit of the rectum, known as the anus, accompanied by the desire to scratch. Although itching may be a reaction to chemicals in the stool, it often implies that there is inflammation of the anal area. The intensity of anal itching and the amount of inflammation increases from the direct trauma of scratching and the presence of moisture. At its most intense, anal itching causes intolerable discomfort that often is described as burning and soreness. What causes anal itching? Anal itching can be caused by irritating chemicals in the foods we eat, such as are found in spices, hot sauces, and peppers. Anal itching also can be caused by the irritation of continuous moisture in the anus caused by frequent liquid stools, diarrhea, or escape of small amounts of stool (incontinence). Moisture increases the possibility of infections of the anus, especially yeast, particularly in patients with diabetes mellitus or HIV. Treatment with antibiotics also can lead to a yeast infection and irritation of the anus. Psoriasis also can irritate the anus. Abnormal passageways (fistulas) from the small intestine or colon to the skin surrounding the anus can form as a result of disease (such as Crohn's disease), and these fistulas bring irritating fluids to the anal area. Other problems that can cause anal itching include: pinworms, hemorrhoids, tears of the anal skin (fissures), and skin tags (abnormal local growth of anal skin). How is anal itching treated? Initial treatment of simple itching is directed toward relieving the burning and soreness. It is important to clean and dry the anus thoroughly and avoid leaving soap in the anal area. Cleaning efforts should include gentle showering without direct rubbing or irritation of the skin with either the washcloth or towel. After bowel movements, moist pads (such as baby wipes, flushable moist wipes, and flushable anal cleansing wipes) should be used for cleaning the anus instead of toilet paper. If there is constant moisture present in the anus or stool incontinence, it may be necessary to clean the anus with moist pads between bowel movements. Many over-the-counter products are sold for the treatment of anal itching. These often contain the same drugs that are used for treating hemorrhoids. Products used for the treatment of anal itching are available as ointments, creams, gels, suppositories, foams, and pads. Ointments, creams, and gels - when used around the anus - should be applied as a thin covering. When applied to the anal canal, these products should be inserted with a finger or a "pile pipe." Pile pipes are most efficient when they have holes on the sides as well as at the end. Pile pipes should be lubricated with ointment prior to insertion. Suppositories or foams do not have advantages over ointments, creams, and gels. Most products contain more than one type of active ingredient. Almost all contain a protectant in addition to another ingredient. Only examples of brand-name products containing one ingredient in addition to the protectant are discussed below. Local anesthetics Local anesthetics temporarily relieve pain, burning, and itching by numbing the nerve endings. The use of these products should be limited to the perianal area and lower anal canal. Local anesthetics can cause allergic reactions with burning and itching. Therefore, the application of anesthetics should be discontinued if burning and itching increase. Examples of local anesthetics include: benzocaine 5% to 20% (Americaine Hemorrhoidal, Lanacane Maximum Strength, Medicone) benzyl alcohol (Itch-X) 5% to 20% dibucaine 0.25% to 1.0% (Nupercainal) dyclonine 0.5% to 1.0% lidocaine (Xylocaine) 2% to 5% pramoxine 1.0% (Fleet Pain-Relief, Procto Foam Non-steroid, Tronothane Hydrochloride) tetracaine 0.5% to 5.0% Vasoconstrictors Vasoconstrictors are chemicals that resemble epinephrine, a naturally occurring chemical. Applied to the anus, vasoconstrictors make the blood vessels become smaller, which may reduce swelling. They also may reduce pain and itching due to their mild anesthetic effect. Vasoconstrictors applied to the perianal area - unlike vasoconstrictors that are taken orally or by injection - have a low likelihood of causing serious side effects, such as high blood pressure, nervousness, tremor, sleeplessness, and aggravation of diabetes or hyperthyroidism. Examples of vasoconstrictors include: ephedrine sulfate 0.1% to 1.25% epinephrine 0.005% to 0.01% phenylephrine 0.25% (Medicone Suppository, Preparation H, Rectocaine) Protectants Protectants prevent irritation of the perianal area by forming a physical barrier on the skin that prevents contact of the irritated skin with aggravating liquid or stool from the rectum. This barrier reduces irritation, itching, pain, and burning. There are many products that are themselves protectants or that contain a protectant in addition to other medications. Examples of protectants include: aluminum hydroxide gel cocoa butter glycerin kaolin lanolin mineral oil (Balneol) white petrolatum starch zinc oxide (Desitin) or calamine (which contains zinc oxide) in concentrations of up to 25% cod liver oil or shark liver oil if the amount of vitamin A is 10,000 USP units/day. Astringents Astringents cause coagulation (clumping) of proteins in the cells of the perianal skin or the lining of the anal canal. This action promotes dryness of the skin, which in turn helps relieve burning, itching, and pain. Examples of astringents include: calamine 5% to 25% zinc oxide 5% to 25% (Calmol 4, Nupercainal, Tronolane) witch hazel 10% to 50% (Fleet Medicated, Tucks, Witch Hazel Hemorrhoidal Pads) Antiseptics Antiseptics inhibit the growth of bacteria and other organisms. However, it is unclear whether antiseptics are any more effective than soap and water. Examples of antiseptics include: boric acid hydrastis phenol benzalkonium chloride cetylpyridinium chloride benzethonium chloride resorcinol Keratolytics Keratolytics are chemicals that cause the outer layers of skin or other tissues to disintegrate. The rationale for their use is that the disintegration allows medications that are applied to the anus and perianal area to penetrate into the deeper tissues. The two approved keratolytics used are: aluminum chlorhydroxy allantoinate (alcloxa) 0.2% to 2.0% resorcinol 1% to 3% Analgesics Analgesic products, like anesthetic products, relieve pain, itching, and burning by depressing receptors on pain nerves. Examples of analgesics include: menthol 0.1% to 1.0% (greater than 1.0% is not recommended) camphor 0.1% to 3% (greater than 3% is not recommended) juniper tar 1% to 5% Corticosteroids Corticosteroids reduce inflammation and can relieve itching, but their chronic use can cause permanent damage to the skin. They should not be used for more than short periods of a few days to two weeks. Only products with weak corticosteroid effects are available over-the-counter. Stronger corticosteroid products that are available by prescription should not be used for treating anal itching. What if anal itching persists? For persistent anal itching, efforts are directed toward identifying an underlying cause. An examination by a doctor can rapidly identify most causes of anal itching. Adjustments in diet, treatment of infections, or surgical procedures to correct the underlying cause may be required.

Women Burn More Calories An Orange A Day May Ward Off When They Exercise After Taking Stroke Risk Eating foods that contain vitamin considered deficient of the vitamin. says a study. Vitamin C is found in fruits and vegetables such as oranges, papaya, peppers, broccoli and strawberries. Hemorrhagic stroke is less common than ischemic stroke, but is more often deadly. The study involved 65 people who had experienced an intra-cerebral hemorrhagic stroke, or a blood vessel rupture inside the brain. They were compared to 65 healthy people. Participants were tested for the levels of vitamin C in their blood. Forty-one percent of cases had normal levels of vitamin C, 45 percent showed depleted levels of vitamin C and 14 percent were C, while those who had not had a stroke had normal levels of the vitamin. 'Our results show that vitamin C deficiency should be considered a risk factor for this severe type of stroke, as were high blood pressure, drinking alcohol and being overweight in our study,' said study author Stphane Vannier with Pontchaillou University Hospital in Rennes, France. Vannier added that vitamin C appeared to have other benefits like creating collagen, a protein found in bones, skin and tissues. Vitamin C deficiency has also been linked to heart disease. A new study has suggested that women should follow a high-protein meal with half an hour of moderate exercise as it burns more calories as compared to exercising on an empty stomach. Ashley Binns, a doctoral student in kinesiology and exercise science who led the study at the University of Arkansas, said the goal was to determine the interaction between the thermic effect of food and exercise on the body's total energy expenditure, as measured in calories. Thermic effect is the amount of energy that it takes to digest, store and utilize the food we eat. Binns said that her team looked at the effects of protein consumption alone on total energy expenditure and protein consumption combined with exercise, and found that with exercise, there is a trend for a continued increase in caloric expenditure with higher protein consumption. Additionally, the consumption of the high or low-protein meals resulted in greater energy expenditure than the

A new study suggests that women who ate a diet high in fresh fruits and vegetables as young adults were much less likely to have plaque build-up in their arteries 20 years later, compared with those who consumed lower amounts of these foods. This new finding reinforces the importance of developing healthy eating habits early in life. Previous studies have found that middle-aged adults whose diet consists of a high proportion of fruits and vegetables are less likely to have a heart attack or stroke, but the relationship between fruit and vegetable consumption during young adulthood and heart disease later in life was less clear. To study this concept, researchers evaluated the association between dietary intake of fruits and vegetables in young adults and the presence of coronary artery calcification (CAC) 20 years later. CAC scores, which were obtained using a CT scan, provide a direct estimate of the amount of plaque in the coronary arteries. "It's an important question because lifestyle behaviors, such as a heart

healthy diet, are the foundation of cardiovascular prevention and we need to know what dietary components are most important," Michael D. Miedema, M.D., M.P.H., a cardiologist at the Minneapolis Heart Institute, and the lead investigator of the study said. Specifically, women who reported consuming the most fruits and vegetables (eight to nine servings a day for a 2,000-calorie diet) in their 20s were 40 percent less likely to have calcified plaque in their arteries in their 40s compared with those who ate the least amount (three to four servings a day) during the same time period. This association persisted even after researchers accounted for other lifestyle behaviors, as well as for their currentday diets, further demonstrating the role dietary patterns at younger ages may play. Fruits and vegetables are packed with vitamins, minerals, fiber, antioxidants and other things that are known to promote good health. Plant-based diets in general have also been linked to greater longevity, less cancer, lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure and healthier body weight.

fasted state, she said. "That means that eating prior to exercise does provide fuel to burn, making us more like an energy-burning machine," she asserted. Ten "recreationally active" collegeage women of normal body weight participated in the study. For their testing sessions, they were given a high-protein meal, low-protein meal, or no food at all, before walking on a treadmill. Binns said that previous studies involving high- and low-protein diets have typically examined the athletic populations and morbidly obese individuals, but she wanted to see what the thermic effect of food was like for a normal individual, who didn't have any metabolic disorders or medications that would affect their metabolism. Exercise was key to the study, Binns said, because high-protein diets without exercise can lead to muscle loss. With just a high-protein diet and no exercise, the body heats up to break down the protein but what also happens is it breaks down muscle, she said.

Rohit To Get More Ruthless On 'Khatron Ke Khiladi'

Director Rohit Shetty said he would push the contestants of the adventure reality show 'Khatron ke Khiladi' to their limits. Rohit, 40, is hosting the fifth season of 'Khatron Ke Khiladi - Darr Ka Blockbuster' being aired from March 22. "While I know how to ensure that the contestants are always on their feet, I am going to push them to their limits. Action and entertainment are my forte and the lighter moments that I hope to create will make the 'Khatron Ke Khiladi' experience a truly memorable one," Rohit said. The filmmaker said he cannot keep himself away from giving a touch of humour to his work. "While I am excited by the concept of action and adventure, I can't keep myself away from adding a touch of humour to my work," he said. "While the scripts were being narrated to me, I kept improvising on them and that's how it all started. The seriousness, aggression and synergies will continue to be intact as per the theme of 'Khatron Ke Khiladi'," he added. Rohit recalled his father late stunt man M B Shetty on the show aired, which involved toughened glass. He said his father had introduced the special glass in Bollywood. The 'Chennai Express' director broke one such piece of standing toughened glass with gloved hands in the show. The contestants for the show are actress Mugdha Godse, Niktin Dheer, Ranvir Shorey, choreographer-actor Salman Yusuff Khan, Rajniesh Duggal, Dayananad Shetty aka 'Daya', Gurmeet Choudhary and his wife Debina. Among other participants are TV actress Pooja Gor, stunt woman Geeta Tandon, couple Gauhar Khan and Kushal Tandon, Karanvir Bohra and his wife Teejay Sidhu, Femina Miss India International and IPL host Rochelle Maria Rao. The shooting for the show has been done in Cape Town, South Africa.

I had not seen any film on such subject and I felt that I must make the film, so we made it in Marathi, said Riteish Deshmukh. It is much easier to make such films in Marathi than Hindi because the Marathi audience accepts such unique subjects more as compared to the Hindi audience, he added. Yellow is Riteishs second Marathi production venture, after hit film Balak Palak. I think we were able to justify this (the subject of Yellow) more in Marathi. If

Actor-producer Riteish, whose upcoming Marathi production Yellow deals with children with special needs, says films with unique concepts gain wider acceptance among Marathi audiences compared to Hindi

Riteish said: Yellow is an out and out emotional rollercoaster ride that will make you laugh. Its a sports film and also has an exciting climax. Directed by Mahesh Limaye, Yellow also features Upendra Limaye, Aishwaraya Narkar, Usha Nadkarni and Mrunal Kulkarni.

After the fall of Gutthi aka Chutkis show, guess who is coming to his rescue

Manish Paul To Be Replaced By Krushna Abhishek In Mad In India!

Sunil Grover will have Krushna Abhishek as a replacement for Manish Paul in his show Mad In India. After Manish threatened to walk out of the show, we now hear that Sunil will find company in fellow stand-up comedian Krushna on MII. The makers are now attempting to match Grovers show to Kapil Sharmas hit show Comedy Nights with Kapil. So is Krushna playing Kapils role in Sunils updated show? Certainly seems so. Recently reports of the fallout between Manish and Sunil started doing rounds. Buzz suggested that Paul wanted more of his interview

Acclaimed actor Manoj Bajpayee, who is returning to the small screen as the host of a new crime-based show "Encounter", says he has tried to give the narrative a touch of grandmothers' storytelling style. "I am the anchor of the show, and we are trying to do something new with anchoring. The way grandmothers used to tell stories - where you could picture everything, that is what I have tried," the 44-year-old said in an interview. Manoj also said the show will give you the feel of watching a film. "'Encounter' is about the famous encounters that have happened in Mumbai between police and gangsters. Every week, we will tell you about one encounter, it's history and

and less of the comedy stuff on the show, however the channel attributed the low TRPs to Manishs lengthy interview slot. Following which the Mickey Virus hero threatened to walk out. And guess what not only has the channel now found a replacement for Manish as the host, but have also found Mad In Indias Navjot Singh Siddhu in Chunky Pandey. Considering that Chunky lacks a prolific career like Siddhus, will he dole out shayaris like the hit cricketing legend on CNWK? Or will Pandey just remain a butt of Sunil and Krushnas jokes? Lets wait and watch.

will present it in a very interesting way. To simplify, it's going to be the fun of movies on TV," he said. Meanwhile, on the film front, two of Manoj's movies are in post-production and he is very excited about them. "One is 'Traffic' by Endemol and it is a brilliant film. I call it a social thriller. I guarantee that when you see it, you won't know when it started and when it ended," said the actor, last seen on the big screen in "Satyagraha". "The second is 'Saat Uchakkey' by Neeraj Pandey's production house Friday Filmworks and the director is Sanjeev Sharma," he added. "Encounter" goes on air on Sony Entertainment Television April 11.

Noah (PG) ***

Blame Mel Gibson for the resurgence of Biblical films thanks to his surprise hit The Passion of Christ. Out to join this successful club is Paramount Studios with their release of Noah. Taken from themes of this ancient tale from the Bible this is one smart epic. You don't need to be religious to appreciate the spectacle of this story, now coming true at Cineplex Odeon theatres around B.C. Larger than life characters are what Hollywood is most famous for. Top thespian Russell Crowe (Gladiator) seems tailor made in his portrayal of the legendary Hebrew. Given a lease on life from the big man himself, God, consummate director Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan) wields a might stick and wily explores the origins of man. Creation can be a tricky affair. More worrisome are the seeds of discontent and divisions that arise as man starts to show more violent tendencies. Not happy with what he sees Noah is

ordained by God to build an ark to start the world anew. Conflicts galore develop inside Noah as his only family valise come into play. Blessed with three sons by wife Naameh a host of problems emerge. Cast as Naameh in a heart-warming tale that brings new meaning to stand by your man is Jennifer Connelly (Hulk). Huge rifts between the parents emerge as do ancient disputes. Good films need bad villains and cut from the futuristic Pharoah mould is Tubal-cain. Love to hate Ray Winstone (Sexy Beast) deli pavers the goods as Noah's conniving nemesis. Superior special effects and a gorgeously filmed animal procession to the sacred ark make Noah engaging and entertaining. Though a bit long at 138 minutes this is a big scale epic with stand-out acting that all people, whether into religion or not, should find fascinating to behold

For Women/ Relationship

You might be glowing because you just received the news of your pregnancy, but the initial few weeks might be tougher than you thought. Most pregnant women experience morning sickness during the first trimester. According to experts, there are many things that trigger morning sickness. While there is no cure for it, here are some ways to reduce it. - Take naps during the day or when you feel most nauseated. - Don't stuff yourself all at once. Eat small, frequent meals, high in protein and fibre. Avoid fattening or spicy foods. - Carry a bag of snacks with you at all times, whether you are at work or heading to a mall. You could stock up on nuts, granola bars, dried fruits or crackers and biscuits. Going too long without food will lower your blood sugar leading to nausea. - Dehydration is a leading cause of nausea. Sip a little amount of water every few minutes throughout the day. You could also treat yourself with fruit juice but stay away from caffeinated drinks. - Keep a moist and unscented towel nearby to refresh your face after nausea or vomiting. - Smelling a bar of soap can reduce the vomiting sensation. - Go out every evening to get some fresh air and exercise. Opt for a brisk evening walk or do yoga and stretching exercises. - Taking vitamin B6 supplements is known to help with morning sickness. However, these should be taken only after consulting your doctor.

Home Remedies For Beautiful Skin

1. Dont forget your manners Without getting too Sir Lancelot about things, a little etiquette goes a long way. If she looks nice, tell her that. Maybe open the door as she walks through, or offer your arm as she steps down from the curb but play it by ear and dont go too overboard. Also, make sure you remember her eye colour (trust us on this one) and when youre comfortable, maybe test the waters by leaning in a little closer as she speaks if she backs away, well, its probably not going well. 2. Be confident

Most of the times, the reason we get dark circles is due of lack of sleep that is if you haven't slept for your regular 7-8 hours at night. You skin under the eyes will not only get discoloured and dull, but will also look tired. So to prevent dark circles, your beauty sleep is essential. Wear a sunscreen daily. Also, whenever you are stepping outside your house in the day, don't forget to use your sunglasses and if possible, wear a hat. This way the sun's harsh rays won't pigment the skin under your eyes. If you are addicted to too much coffee or alcohol, it's time you cut down on these two. These contain stimulants, which can cause dark circles! Most people think vitamins are only for children and adults. But sometimes, if you have a certain vitamin deficiency, its effects can show on your skin too. If your daily diet is devoid of certain vitamins, then start incorporating more healthy food in your meals or pop a multivitamin supplement. In some cases, under eye circles are genetic or due to some allergy. You should get tested for this and find out the remedies from your general physician.

How To Deal With Dark Circles

Everyones nervous on a first date, but theres nothing more attractive than a bit of self-confidence. When it comes to conversation, stay in your comfort zone by coming up with a few topics that you can talk about easily so youre not out of your depth too early. But its a delicate balance no one wants to be the guy who bangs on about his comic book collection all night, or what a pro he is on the bench press. If in doubt, ask your date about themselves and go from there. It sounds simple, but choosing someone with similar interests is a big plus. If you like nothing better than watching the footy over a few beers and they hate sports with a passion its probably not going to work out. Just be yourself and dont try to force it.

Drinks are fine for a first date. After all, no one wants to sit through the sevencourse degustation with someone youve only just met especially if you both realise its not going to work after the entrees appear. Also, if its a first outing, maybe head to a bar youve been to before youll at least know your way there, and its one less thing you have to worry about. But avoid just heading to your local watering hole its obvious if youve chosen somewhere thats just around the corner from your pad. Try for something thats convenient for both of you to get to. Its perfectly ok to keep first or second dates to weeknights, but anything after the third outing together should be at the weekend. Otherwise, theyre going to wonder what youre doing thats so much more interesting than them. Or, worse, who. 4. Be prepared Your first date is a great opportunity to show her what you're made of. And trust us, first impressions count for a lot. If you look like youve just stepped out of bed, your date is going to think you dont really care. Get your hair cut, maybe invest in a new outfit, and check your teeth and nails are looking presentable. Plan to arrive a little early, so youre not flustered when you walk in the door and youve got a bit of time to give yourself the quick once-over in the bathroom mirror. When it comes time to order, play it fairly safe by avoiding anything youve never tried before or thats tricky to eat. As a general rule, if it involves a bib, best to steer well clear. If youre no wine expert, go with the most recent vintage white, or drink pinot if you want red because it suits more food than not. Continued Next Week

The Seven Unhealthy Foods That Are Actually Good For You
TRYING to stay healthy can be a battle these days.
Sourdough bread Potatoes
But lately theres been a push to start buying full-fat products. Many low-fat dairy options contain loads of sugar to compensate for the loss of flavour. Buying natural, full fat, plain yoghurt is the best option. All dairy foods have numerous health benefits including offering high quality protein as well as calcium, magnesium and phosphorus, according to Burrell. Plain yoghurt in particular is a great choices and the total fat (8-10g) is relatively low overall, compared to other high fat foods.

Theres so much conflicting information out there, with the list of foods we should avoid seemingly growing longer each day. But were here to clear that up. We spoke to leading nutritionist and dietitian Susie Burrell about some of the foods health nuts say we should stay far away from. Turns out theyre not that bad after all.

Coffee

The humble potato has copped a bad wrap as some varieties are high GI, said Burrell. With fewer carbs (just 20g per serve) than the average serve of pasta or rice, a single potato in the jacket is another nutrient rich, extremely satiating food just watch the added butter!

Unlike regular white bread, the processing of sourdough means that it has a relatively low GI, meaning it releases its glucose more slowly into the bloodstream, says Burrell. If you can pick up a multigrain or soy and linseed loaf, all the better.

Eggs

Bacon

Hot Chocolate

Coffee has a reputation as being unhealthy, but its actually packed with antioxidants. Theres good evidence to show 2-3 cups reduces heart disease risk factors, says Burrell. But you should avoid sugary flavour syrups and having more than three cups a day. Plain black or small with a little milk is fine, but large serves of milk and sugar negate the health benefits, she said.

Mmmmmm bacon. The cure to all evil. And all hangovers. You can still indulge in a bacon and egg roll now and then just make sure you trim the fat off and keep it to once a week. A small serve (1-2 pieces) once a week is no issue especially if lean varieties are chosen. More important is how it is cooked and if excess fat is disposed off, Burrell advises.

Some health nuts only use egg whites as a way to reduce their fat intake. But the yolk is where all the essential nutrients including Vitamin As and D, and essential fatty acids are packed in. Theyre not the cholesterol nightmare they are often considered to be, says Burrell. 1-2 each day is a nutrient rich addition to any diet.

Whole-milk yoghurt

For years weve been trained to reach for the low-fat or skim dairy options in the supermarket.

Forget the sugar-laden packet powders. Try making hot chocolate with raw cacao or pure cocoa powder with a small amount of milk and water. The addition of cocoa powder, which is rich in antioxidants, can make this a nutrient rich, tasty drink, says Burrell. The bitter nature of cacao also means you are less likely to overuse it.

Cassava (Yucca) (Manihot esculenta) aka: tapioca, mogo, mandioca, and manioc, is a long tubular root with a thin brown skin and white inner flesh. Health Benefits of Cassava (Yucca): Increased Immune Function Protection Against Heart Disease Slowing Aging DNA Repair and Protection Alleviation of Cardiovascular Disease Alleviation of Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) Alzheimer's Protection Osteoporosis Protection Reduced Risk of Type II Diabetes Reduced Frequency of Migraine Headaches Alleviation of Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)

Antioxidant Protection Prevention of Epileptic Seizures Prevention of Alopecia (Spot Baldness) Cassava is known to contain levels of cyanide so the leaves and skin of the root should be avoided. Cooking or soaking the cassava root makes it safe for

consumption. How to choose Cassava (Yucca): Look for firm roots with little smell and no signs of discoloration. How to store Cassava (Yucca): Cassava roots will not last more than 3-4 days unless coated in wax. Fortunately, most roots are sold coated in wax and will

keep for up to 4 weeks when stored in a cool dark place. Cassava root can also be kept for periods of 6-8 months when peeled and frozen. Climate and origin: Cassava is thought to have originated somewhere in South America. Cassava grows in warm tropical climates (Zones 9-11 in the U.S.) Taste: When properly cooked, cassava root has a nutty flavor with a flaky texture. Substitutes with more vitamins: Sweet Potatoes, Yams Miscellaneous information: Cassava is the third largest source of carbohydrates in the world and is consumed primarily in Africa, Fiji and South America. Ground into flour, cassava is known as tapioca, the source of the pudding we all know and love.

Automotive
the Honda CR-V and four-cylinder Toyota RAV4. A 240-horsepower, 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder leads the charge and can dash to 60 mph in less than eight seconds (making the most of the excellent handling, too). All versions come with a six-speed automatic. You might think that the sleeker look might mean less passenger space, but that's not the case. Front seats are slim and rather firm, and there's just enough space for adultsjust two of them, due to widthto sit in back. The cargo hold's larger, and the back seat folds and flips down its own headrests for better storage space. And you can simply swing your foot below the bumper and a hands-free tailgate option opens and closes the hatch. Ride quality in the Escape is taut, but not too harsh or busy. Cabin appointments rank high in look and feel compared to most other crossovers in this price range, although not everyone will warm to the somewhat plasticky interior, with its cockpit-like instrument panel that robs a bit of space in front and may be seen as overstyled by some. The Escape has been quite impressive for safety, but it's quite class-leading. It's earned Top Safety Pick status from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), as well as four-star overall ratings (with five stars for side impact) from the federal government, but it earned only a 'poor' rating in the new IIHS small overlap test. For 2014 the list of safety features gets better, with a rear backup camera system standard across the Ford Escape lineup.

FridayApril 4, 2014

With authentically athletic looks and performance balancing out good passenger space, cargo versatility, and loads of high-tech features, the 2014 Ford Escape is attractive to a wide range of buyers. Just last year, the Ford Escape emerged from a transformationescaping its boxy, SUV-influenced past and becoming a rakish, sporty, more carlike crossover with crisp handling, potent engines, and even a little more passenger space. The 2014 Escape carries into 2014 mostly unchanged, although the Escape SEL trim has been dropped from the lineup. From 2001 to 2012, you'll remember, the Escape did its best impression of the first-generation Explorer, down to the grille and window shapes and even the outdated graining of its interior plastics. This current 2014 Escape is everything but thata rakish profile and aggressive road-going stance on the outside; sporty, almost cockpit-like layout inside. The new athletic look of the 2014 Ford Escape is authenticated in its road manners. Outside of the Mazda CX-5, we can't think of a compact crossover in this class that handles as well. And there's plenty of choice in what you want under the hood: Ford turns to a trio of four-cylinders to replace its former four- and six-cylinder engines and the much-loved but discontinued Ford Escape Hybrid. The base engine's a carryover 2.5-liter four meant for fleets, while the mainstream choice is a 178-horsepower, 1.6-liter turbo four with straight-line acceleration competitive with its chief rivals,

2014 Ford Escape

Last year's SEL is discontinued, but the top Escape Titanium is even more of a top-of-the-line luxury model than before. For 2014, a Titanium Technology Package is now optional and adds HID Headlamps, a blindspot system, park assist, and rainsensing wipers. Other noteworthy features offered in the Escape include an improved but still complex MyFord Touch; a navigation system; HD and satellite radio; Bluetooth with audio streaming; pushbutton start; leather seating; all-wheel drive, with or without a 3,500-pound-rated towing package; and a panoramic sunroof. Don't even bother trying to remember what the Escape used to look like, because this isn't anything close to it. Ford last year gave the Escape a fromscratch redesign, with a rakish, athletic exterior and an interior that's daring, sporty, and perhaps a little busy. The Escape now looks the part of a modern crossover from the outside-with lots of passing resemblances to the new Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, or Mazda CX-5. Size up the 2014 Escape and its pert exterior, and you might see its tightly fitted form as part hatchback, part running shoe. With the longer nose, we see hints of a good sport wagon (or sport sedan), as well as enough of the familiar upturned rear pillar to see that some of the influences from the Ford Focus (on which it's based) made it through here intact. From the side it's

kicky and dynamic, but in front the mail-slot-sized grille still isn't working for us. The kind of modern look you get inside the Escape is less familiar, more bold and it stands as unique in this class. The overall theme of the instrument panel is upright yet chiseled, contoured, and heavily styled, and it wraps around the front occupants in a swoopy, finely detailed way that makes other compact crossover interiors feel boring. In turn, it loses the open, airy feel of the firstgeneration Escape, and the rakish look has some tradeoffslike compromised visibility and thicker roof pillarsbut this is the price of modernity. For 2014, with the discontinuation of the mid-range SEL, the top Titanium model gets a little more visual differentiation on the outside, with 18inch machined aluminum wheels, grill radiator shutters, and silver roof rails. At center, a wide ribbon of high-gloss grey plastic, with some climate and audio functions, loops around these a set of center-stack controls, with a piano-like layout of buttons and tall, skinny air vents. At the top of this Matterhorn of modernity, ironically, is a CD slot--the one relic of the past decade we can spot inside the new Escape from a dozen feet away. Oddly, there's another horizontal air vent beneath the LCD screen that seems to exist to cool the climate controls and knee caps.

Fans Raise Funds For Sami's Release

A group of Nadi fans are working around the clock raising funds to clear defender Krishna Sami before the OFC Champions League next week. Sami has been training with the Jetsetters since February but has not been able to obtain his release as the Blues Fan Club of Lautoka is demanding $10,000 for the former Fiji U20 defender's transfer. Nadi president Navneeda Goundar said they are keen to clear Krishna and the fans and well wishers of the team have taken up the initiative to raise funds for his release.

Tortorella And Vigneault A Contrast In Styles
Through seven years as the Canucks coach, Alain Vigneault never became The Show in Vancouver. He was an everyday, willing quote, as the coach is supposed to be. A calming, explanatory voice most of the time. Through good times and bad, it was never about Vigneault. As his first season in the Western Conference approached, John Tortorella swore it wouldnt be about him either. Particularly when it came to his relationship with the media. I dont hide from my history, he said back in August, while readying for his first Canucks camp. I think there are some good things I have done with my intensity and how I have handled things. And there have been a numberas long as my armof stupid things. I get that. I will put it to you this way: I am really cognizant that I need to change there. As this lost season crawls to a conclusion in Vancouver, we can say Tortorella succeeded in making the media sessions less about himself. But did that discipline find its release in his assault on the Calgary dressing room? Clearly, Tortorella was better off aiming his derision at Larry Brooks than Bob Hartley. His real downfall, however, is that he hasnt been able to apply himself to the team that Alain Vigneault left behind. Were losing games, so Im the idiot, Tortorella said Monday. And hes winning games, so hes the smart guy. Vigneaul has taken Tortorellas Rangers and virtually equaled last seasons output. As he brings the playoff-bound Blueshirts to Rogers Arena tonight, the club is on pace for 95 points this season. If last season had featured an 82-game schedule, the Rangers would have had 96 points. No one has to be an idiot here. But if the comparison is that Tortorellas job is likely in serious jeopardy after only one year in Vancouver, while Vigneaults standing is entirely stable in New York, then the question becomes, why the difference? For starters, it appears Vigneault has shaped his coaching style to his new roster, rather than the other way around. Any coach in this league adjusts the way he handles a team to the personnel that he has, Vigneault says. You might have certain things that you prefer to do, but you need the personnel to be able to apply certain things. Did he say, Any coach? Not the coach in Vancouver, where Tortorella has rammed his own style down the throat of the Canucks roster like pounding a screw in with a hammer. His new team was never going to be his old team, a shot-blocking,

He said they are looking forward to making a deposit to Fiji Football Association in the coming days. Blues FC chairman Shalendra Prasad had earlier told the media that they will only clear the player once the entire amount is paid to them as the player is contracted to them and not to Lautoka FA . Nadi is grouped with Auckland City, Amicale and AS Dragon for the Champions League and face the defending champs at Churchill Park on Tuesday. The match commences at 4pm.

hard-grinding group that would wear down an Eastern Conference opponent in a low-scoring game. Tortorella has coached the Canucks that way, and it has been a playoff-missing disaster. Vigneault found the Sedins value to be maximized at about 19:15 of ice time per game, with as many offensivezone starts as possible. In return they produced like champions, and almost never missed a game to injury. Rather than accept conventional wisdom, Tortorella knew better. He tried to bring the Sedins to his way of playing the game, giving them an extra 90 seconds of ice time per night. Had them killing penalties, blocking shots. His reward? Their production has plummeted and the games missed to injury has been, in Henriks case, at an all-time high. Daniel has only missed more games once in his NHL career. On a team known for its sleep doctors and mind rooms, Tortorella may as well have been Eddie Shore for all the forward thinking he has shown. Top defenceman Alex Edler has been a train wreck, with only 10 points on the power play all season. Alex Burrows has spent too much of the season on Injured Reserve to make any judgments, but his year has marked a career low in production. Jannik Hansen went from averaging 0.57 points per game last season, to 0.30 this season. The power play, meanwhile, is buried in 27th spot in the NHL. It ranked 22nd last season, fourth in 2011-12 and first in 2010-11, a decline that Tortorella has been unable to stem. Of course, Vancouvers penalty kill ranks 10th, an area where Tortorellas focus has made the Canucks strong. Vigneaults strength has been winning games and making the playoffs. Some teams, sometimes, dont have the personnel to play an offensive game, he says. So youve got to defend first, and hope you get enough chances to be into the game. This (team) here, were a happy medium of both. And were improving. The games getting better. Optimism. Oh, what a Canucks fan would do for a dose of that. Are we going to get in? Its very slim, and weve known that, Tortorella said of Vancouvers playoff chances. But it still doesnt stop you from working at your business with your team. That will go right to the bitter end until they say You cant play anymore. At Madison Square Garden, theyll host games in round one, at least. In Vancouver, just six games remain, including Tuesday nights against the Rangers. Then theyll be taking about Tortorella, and whether or not he should stay or be fired.

Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker has spoken publicly for the first time since his off-field accident, in which he tripped over a bike rack on the streets of Vancouver and suffered a concussion. The midfielder is participating in noncontact training this week until at least Thursday as he tries to build himself up for a return, possibly as soon as this weekend against the Colorado Rapids at BC Place (6:30 pm ET, MLS Live). It was embarrassing, Reo-Coker said with a laugh on Tuesday after a training session. But I've had worse. I should just be paying more attention to where I was going. Outside of football is my own personal time, and [it's] embarrassing, in a way slightly a funny story, but I've lived to tell the tale. When asked to provide the true story of his accident, after much speculation and innuendo has swirled, the Englishman gave a glimpse of the fall. I had a little accident, Reo-Coker said. I wasn't paying attention, went over a bike rack and smashed my head against the concrete, cement, and I had

a serious gash in my head, and suffered a little concussion. That's exactly what happened. In terms of the chances of playing this weekend, Reo-Coker said he is feeling better but still needs to be careful about not rushing back too soon given the head injury. It's just league procedure, Reo-Coker said. It's obviously the concussion side of things and it's about being careful, about not rushing me back in too early, too soon. There's tests that have to be conducted and done. Today I'm outside, did some ball work, did non-contact stuff, and that's what it's going to be for the next three days. We'll see how I am at the end of the week. Ultimately, as blushworthy as the incident has been for the player, and the fact it has kept him out of at least one game, Reo-Coker states he realizes that the accident could actually have had even greater consequences. For me, personally, it could have been a lot worse, Reo-Coker said. In all honesty, the impact I had on the

cement, it could have been a lot worse. I'm just thankful it isn't as bad as it could have been. There's a big scar on my face now slightly improved my

looks, but these things happen. In a way it is a bit of a crazy story, but that is the reality of what happened exactly.
