SEOHead: Breast Cancer Awareness at UM Students search to participate in breast cancer awareness Students hunt for Breast Cancer

Awareness Month events

By Keighley Joyce Nothing. I havent heard of anything, said junior engineering major H Simpson when asked about his on-campus plans for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a campaign to raise awareness about the disease, but Simpson has nothing planned for it. Simpson said that he lacks information about on-campus events dedicated to raising breast cancer awareness. Although organizations planned breast cancer awareness events on campus, a lack of exposure leaves students hunting for ways to contribute to the campaign. Junior fire prevention engineering major Kieran Kelly searched for ways to participate, but was unsuccessful. I think there should be more eventsat least advertised, Kelly said. It is hard to be aware of the disease and its risks when there is a of awareness about actual on-campus events for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

K.Joyce, Breast Cancer Awareness, p. 2 Think pink Despite the dearth of publicity for breast cancer awareness activities on campus, the sorority Zeta Tau Alpha will be hosting a weeklong philanthropic event related to campaign. ZTAs Director of Philanthropy Claire Zahavi said, For Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we devote one week for awareness and host one fundraising event, the Crown Classic Golf Tournament and Luncheon. ZTA named the pink-filled week Think Pink Week. ZTA encompasses many efforts to educate the public on-campus during this time. Zahavi said it can be arduous to publicize event information throughout the campus. Zahavis sorority, however, does not worry too much about promotion. She

said the events occur in busy areas allowing all students the chance to participate.

Senior member of ZTA Gabrielle Cerami said, All the members of our sorority are excited to show the campus community just how much we care about Breast Cancer Awareness. She said that her sorority will be painting the campus pink with flowers, balloons and chalk. Cerami said that after the first Think Pink Week event Monday, more students will become aware of ZTAs actions for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
