Coaching Comments:

The D & D Invite in Worland was a very good meet for the boys and girls teams with very good weather and great competition. We were happy to see the return of all our athletes from the spring break of last week. It was a good experience in that our entire team was able to work together and compete at full strength. A major focus for our teams for this meet was the placing of our relays. We were able to place first in 4 of the 6 relays and all of the athletes in those events really stepped up the intensity and competed well. The relays are an area that we feel can be a real strength for us and we will continue that effort with hopes of improvement throughout the season. Another area that the team would like to emphasize is in the field events. We saw some very good results in many of the field events and we will now focus on placing well in the bigger meets that are coming up on the schedule. The girls team was led by a solid balance of efforts in the track events. These events are a big strength for us and we have many athletes who contribute in this area. Maddy McClure led us for a second week and really showed that she is more and more comfortable in her individual races. The 800 Meter Run was a good event for her and she excelled in a very tough race. She will continue to improve each week and she has great range in her abilities on the track. Gabby Edeen stepped up for the team in competing and placing in four events. This was her first meet of the outdoor season and she showed great strength in her events. Her speed will develop each week and that should produce some very good results in a few weeks. Peyton Bomar was very impressive in her events and was a tremendous asset in the relay races as well as her individual events. Her competitiveness and intensity is outstanding and she has become a leader for us in her freshman year. It is exciting to see so many athletes scoring points in many different events at the track meets for the girls team. The boys team had a great day and they continue to exceed expectations of athletes and coaches alike. They are learning that great efforts yield great results so it keeps getting better and better for the boys team. Taylor Bruso had a very good day for the team and ran three tough distance races for his team. His effort was very good and he showed very good improvement in being competitive in multiple events. Tyler Julian also had a very good meet for the second straight week. He was able to improve his times in both hurdle events and led his team by example. It is very nice to have a senior leader like Tyler to show the younger athletes that consistent effort is what the team needs in order to be successful.

Brad Holloway, Rion Szatkowski, Brian Kjerstad, and Zack Petersburg were very good leaders in the long sprints and middle distance events. They scored for their team in the relays and open events and had very spirited efforts. Ethan Hall led us in the field events for yet another week and does a great job of leading and uniting our team. He has great energy and shows the team how to have fun and still compete at the highest level possible. The team will travel to Casper next Friday for the Trojan Invite at Kelly Walsh High School. This will be a tough test for the team because we should see some very good teams that are in our classification and have great athletes. If our athletes can continue to run and compete with the intensity that is required we will continue to improve.
