l - r: Davids Aunt Linda, his mother, David,

Jasper, Jaspers cousins Pat and Tanya

/ / ,
We are fortunate to have many loving and caring family members
and friends who live in the New York City area. Several of our
friends have children, and are already anxious to have play-dates.
We also have family who live in other states that are equally
excited to have a new family member. Davids mother is planning
to come for a couple of weeks to help out after our child is born.
Jaspers sister cant wait for auntie time!
Thanksgiving in our home is filled with friends, food, and family, and
we cant wait to pass on our family traditions and recipes to our child.

We again want to thank you for taking the time to read our letter
and for considering open adoption. We hope this can be the
beginning of an open and honest dialogue, one that will bloom
into a lifelong loving and caring relationship.
We promise that our child will grow up knowing the love you have
for them and the special way that we all became a family. Your
consideration of open adoption shows the love and commitment
you have for your child. We will always be open and honest with
our child about adoption. We will make clear their placement
was made so that more people could love them unconditionally.
When youre ready to reach out, were here to listen.
Warmly,

Hello! We appreciate you taking
the time to read our letter.
We can imagine this is a special
time for you and would love to
join you on this journey. Were
excited to learn about you and for
you to learn about us, and discuss
the hopes and dreams you have
for your child and yourself.
David will love spending time
with our child making art,
watching baseball and exploring
the world, whether its stargazing
or looking through a microscope.
Jasper is joyfully anticipating being
a stay-at-home father.
We would be honored to nurture
and guide your child so that she or he
can grow to be a happy individual.
We look forward to building an
ongoing relationship with you in
a way that is most comfortable.
We appreciate your strength and
grace as you consider the future for
your child and we look forward to
hearing from you.

Jasper is one of the most loyal and loving people you can meet. He puts me
and his family first, before anything else, and loves deeply. I learned this early
on in our relationship when he learned American Sign Language so he could
communicate with me and my community. He now is fluent and a nationally
certified sign language interpreter. Jasper is at his happiest around children,
and looks forward to spending many hours reading with our little one, strolling
through parks, and visiting me at work. Jasper takes commitments very
seriously and does not rush into important decisions. I cannot think of someone
more faithful, devoted or loving. For these reasons, he is my best friend.

We met for the first time at a Christmas party in 1998. After a few awkward
exchanges (David is Deaf and Jasper had not yet learned American Sign
Language) we knew something special and long-lasting was to be.
In 2004, five years later, we exchanged wedding vows in front of
our friends, family, and many others in Central Park.
On the first day marriage equality became legal in New York State
in July 2011 we waited three hours in line at City Hall to finish the
paperwork, and with tears of joy, received our marriage license.

David is my favorite person in the world. He only has to flash me a
smile and I fall in love with him all over again. He puts me at ease
with just his presence. Over our years together, he has enriched my
life in countless and wondrous ways. Before he became a principal,
David taught Kindergarten. I would sometimes visit his class. The
joy, care and excitement for learning that he inspired in the children
was a wonder to see. I love being his husband and am honored to
have him as the father of my children. He is, quite simply, my hero.

The Sugar Hill section of Harlem is a lovely, diverse area adjacent to several historical
landmarks. Right across the street from our home is a lovely park with extensive
playgrounds and a swimming pool. We look forward to splashing around in the
shallow pools and playing in the fountains with our child and teaching him or her
how to swim. In our neighborhood and beyond, there are a host of places to visit
and experiences to be had. We love the city and its museums, restaurants, shows
and festivals. We cant wait for the many family trips to the Museum of Natural
History and the tours of world cuisine at the many Summer Street Festivals that
pop up all over New York City. Well love teaching our little one about our citys
history, and experiencing our vibrant city with them.

We have fun together in whatever we do. We love sitting at home with our cats,
and trying out new recipes. We both also enjoy traveling, especially by sea. Jasper
spent over three years living on a ship when he was in the U.S. Navy! We have taken
several cruises together, most recently through the Baltic Sea. We have dreams of
sailing with our child, and look forward to re-experiencing the joy and wonder of
exploring and discovering the world for the first time through her or his eyes.
