COMM 130 Joel Judkins

Objectives

Size and optimize a logo for a web page. Acquire a working knowledge of html. Acquire a working knowledge of css style sheets. Identify hex colors as photoshop colors.

Process

The html and css were done in Textwrangler, and I learned a lot about coding and the internet. The logo was brought in from my logos. The background was created as a gradient in Photoshop, then layered over a red background to mimic the gradient. The heading was replaced with a picture of the text to get the font I wanted. I messed with the text, and the background for the body to let the gradient show through and continue across the page. I really like the way it turned out.

Objectives

Use the basics of Illustrator Apply typography concepts with small print. Create a unique, universal logo for a fictional company Applying contact information

Process

This business card was centered around the logo I created. I wanted to communicate the message of the phoenix in an exciting way, so I made use of the colors that we associate with fire to do so. This simple design is a reflection of the businesss ability to say a lot with only a little bit of room. This is one of my favorite pieces of work, and Im happy with how it turned out.

Objectives

Create a professional and unique letterhead. Apply a watermark Incorporate a logo into a stationery design.

Process

This stationery was based on the corresponding business card, with the same logo. I wanted it to be simple, yet elegant. I didnt want the information in the top right to detract from what ever letter would be put underneath. paired with the business card, I was very happy with how this turned out.

T Shirt

A T shirt designed for a fan club. Adobe InDesign April 4, 2014

Course/Instructor
COMM 130 Joel Judkins

Objectives

Design a t shirt for an organization. Show proficiency in InDesign

Process

To begin this design I traced out the simple shirt design from an online photo to give me the shape of the shirt. The front was styled to look like the periodic table elements with those labels, and I tinted the letters yellow to give it a contrast. The back is a collection of the most popular TV shows and movies that I could think of, with the word nerd scattered throughout in small yellow text to tie it back to the front. I tried to match the font styles on the back to the general mood of the show or movie. I really like how these turned out.

Montage
Description Programs Date
An inspirational montage created by combining 2 photos and typography. Adobe Photoshop February 15, 2014

Course/Instructor
COMM 130 Joel Judkins

Objectives

Apply principles of design and typography Reinforce image quality/resolution principles Unify a layout with a consistant theme and constant message Use the FOCUS design principles with strong focal point and flow Demonstrate more adanced Photoshop skills for layout with multiple elements

Process

The most important part of this process was getting the blending between photos right. I gethered the pictures together and cut the girl out and added her over the shoe picture on a mask. The blending together of the pictures took a long time to get just right, but when I liked the blending I added a color filter over both of them. I selected a quote I thought would go along with the theme I wanted, and colored it to stand out and communicate that theme. I quite liked how it turned out in the end.

Brochure

A unique folded brochure for the fictional airline Arendelle Airlines. Adobe InDesign Adobe Illustrator

COMM 130 Joel Judkins

Objectives

Set up and align a two-sided, folded document. Incorporate an original logo in a company brochure. Write at least 250 words of original copy. Trim with full bleed and print in duplex

Process

I wanted to do something different for this brochure. I designed the logo, the small paper airplane on the front in Adobe Illustrator. The rest was designed in Adobe Indesign. I planned the brochure so that it would fold into a paper airplane. I thought that the blue color scheme was very iconic for an airline, and the design elements reflect the simple paper airplane logo. This was a complex project to map out, and I struggled getting the folds to line up at the right place.

Objectives

Comprehend image sizing. Find, scan, and import a high-quality photo from an outside source Incorporate a full bleed on a design

Process

This flier was created solely in Microsoft Word. I scanned, uploaded, and cut the picture down to size in Word. The decorative lines were of my own conception and creation, as well as the font used for the title. The Women and Children of Iran Association was also of my own conception, thought CARE is an international humanitarian organization. The color scheme is founded on the green that is the national color of Iran. The detailing was difficult to create in Word, but I enjoyed this design very much.

Process

This flier emphasizes simplicity as a tool to emphasize the message.I wanted it to communicate the details while maintaining a proffessional feel, and I wanted to draw the attention to the leadership part of the conference. The image was a hard one to work with, but I thought it directed the focus to the text very well. I liked this projects final result very much.

COMM 130 Joel Judkins

Objectives

Learn basic photography skills. Apply non destructive editing to a photo. Use layers to design text and repeating deign elements.

Process

I took the picture myself, and then edited it to give it a bit of color and sharper details. The color scheme I chose was a yellow monochromatic, which fit beautifully with the picture I took. The quote is on of my favorites, and I felt it also fit with the picture. The design was built in Photoshop, and I decided to do a simple design that could speak for itself.

Logos

A series of 3 possible logos, designed for the TV show Kim Possible. Adobe Illustrator February 22, 2014

Course/Instructor
COMM 130 Joel Judkins

Objectives

Complete 3 stylistically different logos for a business of personal image. Use only the tools to draw and complete logos.

Process

These logos were built in Adobe Illustrator, using vectors. I decided to make logos for Kim Possible. On each logo I tried to find a symbol that really represented her spy business, and went from there. they are all different, but represent her business distinctly. I designed the phone on the first, and traced the silhoute and the head on the second and third. The second one was my favorite.
