Exploration of the need and evaluation

Im making this bracelet for teenage girls around the age of 14-18. The theme I am heading for is something beachy, with the colours blue, white and silver. Im planning on making the style of this bracelet, where it can wrap your wrist consecutive times and meet at the front with a bead on the end. There will be a starfish in this bracelet that will resemble the beach.

Research and evaluation of existing designs

I have made this collage above with those specific pictures because I found that they all compliment the beachy theme. These are also some of the ideas I had in mind for the bracelet I am planning on making. Due to the survey results, the most favoured colours are the blue and white. White pearls are preferred and so was the starfish as a symbol, this symbolises a sea creature. In conclusion, I am still not sure whether to make my bracelet out of thick metallic blue material and braid it so that it wraps around consecutively around the writs about 4 times or to make it out of a thick white metallic material and wrap it consecutively around the wrist about 4 times as well, except without the braid.

Generation and evaluation of 2 ideas with annotations

In this diagram I was planning to have three different coloured strands of material. These colours would consist of pink, orange and red. In the middle of the bracelet I have decided to make a gold, rectangular shaped copper with measurements of 4cm x 1.5 cm, so that I can engrave the word beach on the front and connect the end of the plat through a hole and in the copper with a white pearl supporting it.

In this second drawing, I have decided to use a wooden bangle and paint it lime green with holes in it so that I can place a small soft pink pearl. The bangle will be around 30 millimetres in width and have a silver oval shaped copper in the middle with the engraved words Beach Girl with 2 consecutive waves underneath and a small love heart on the top right hand corner.

A final design with dimensions and materials

I have chosen this last drawing to be my final design. This consists of a metallic blue material around 16 cm in length so that it can wrap around the wrist consecutively and be tied into a bow or knot on the opposite side of the silver copper. On the silver copper around 4 cm in length and 1.5 cm in width, there will be engraved writing Beach Girl! with a noncoloured in love heart on the top right hand corner. On the outline of the copper I am planning on having small sized white pearls.

SECTION 6 MIXED MATERIAL TECHNOLOGIES

If you were to design a small pendant how could it be mass produced? Research the different ways in which you could produce multiple copies of this object. You can do this by customising you own piece of jewellery online and get many samples of them. There are many websites such as : http://www.egjewelry.com/store/ OR http://www.crazyforcrafts.com/

2. For the small pendant research how it can be finished. How does it affect the visual appeal of the object? To finish a pendant you would give it a spray with a pray that shines and glosses beads and other jewellery parts. This will give it a smooth and shiny effect. You could also to sand it and polish it with the black card provided; this will also have a smooth but also jagged looking affect. 3. Research other products made from polyester resin, e.g. bathro om vanities, bathtubs, canoes, surfboards. Compare the characteristics of these products with the characteristics of Dinosaur Designs' products . Surfboards a mostly build with a clear polyester resin and fiberglass. With these 2 products, it will construct a well build, strong and low price surfboard which might even last longer. Bath room sinks can be another product. The method to making it can be less expensive than the average sink but can also be less tough and not last as long. A fiberglass sink consists of a few layers of surface coat, fiberglass for some more support and polyest er resin. This can be easy to clean and sustain in our day to day lives.
