Superstitions and 3 the GAME A Warriors Take Team Falcons 3

Gnanam Premier League the cricketing extravaganza at GSB was the brain child of our beloved CEO, Mr. S.P.S. Arul Doss. GPL as I had always held is not just about the game rather beyond it. Branding, Professionalism, Team Play, Group Dynamics, Merchandising and Marketing. Nothing goes unrewarded here. It unleashes, a week of fun and frolic, mind boggling feats on and off the pitch amidst the cheer and chanting of 100 vibrant students. This years edition of GPL was centered on the theme Celebrating Competitiveness Collaboratively. GPL 2012 witnessed the game getting structured, formal dress codes, Regulations, Itinerary etc. In 2013, A revenue model was introduced to facilitate the students learn the financial model of conducting an event. It was in this year Auction was successfully launched. So in furtherance to this initiative in 2014 we ensured a platform to celebrate competitiveness in a collaborative way. The exercise included identifying all the activities associated with the conduct of the event and was allocated to all the clubs. The club members had to interact with other club members to set and settle things on track. This was in a way to equip them with good

interpersonal skills and to ensure knowledge transfer. Shifting to the games per se. GPL V stands out to be a scintillating and entertaining event until today. (As I am penning down my thoughts with 2 more hours for the final.) GPL V has had its own way of entertainment, having seen equal dosage of hard hitting, low totals, last ball finishes, low scoring matches, interesting chases and few healthy arguments on the field too. GPL V will definitely go down in history for the first ever century scored in this version of the game; Mr. Sreejith of Titans scored a 32 ball 100 to see off the Spartans from Finals. GPL as we are aware the entire event is organized and coordinated by the girls of Bemans batch. I must appreciate the grace and poise with which they are executing the work. Also my sincere gratitude to all the Team owners, Club coordinators, Teaching , Non Teaching Staff, House Maintenance Staff and student friends for their unconditional support they are rendering to the GPL committee for making this happen. A special word of appreciation to our Mens residence Warden Mr. Prasad (who is loved and adored by the students as the Dickie Bird of GSB) who despite his health challenges happily consented to umpire

the matches in the hot and humid conditions. GPL is not just about action on the field, but off the field was buzzing with activities as well. The students had organized recreational events during breaks, Kwik Stop the inhouse convenience store had arranged for refreshment and snacks a business model developed by the students, the first of its kind where the entire process from procurement to sale was taken care by the students and the profit generated was shared with the management as well. The GPL not only helps in showcasing the cricketing skills of the students but also instrumental to students in learning group dynamics, event management skills and devising a business model for the game of cricket. We profusely thank Mr. S.P. Selavaraj, the Chairman of Gnanam School of Business and Mr. S.P.S Arul doss, the CEO of Gnanam School of Business for extending their unconditional support to make this event a grand success.

Umpiring Experience
5
In this season the plays among team went very well in terms of true competition as high scoring games. The task of judging the run outs, stumping, no ball, wide etc.., was well received by the team which showed tolerance and applause right through the game. Many umpiring decision were precise and all the teams had an experience of it. This GPL was quite enterprising to all the concerned and was a sensation in the GPL history so far, I felt the best side was winning.
Mr. P.N. Prasad, Match Umpire

Words from the GPL Coordinators

From the inauguration of GPL 5 to the final ceremony, we not only had a whole contribution from every single club, but we could also see synergic effect when all the clubs join together for this event. We learned Spirit de Corpse in Principles of Management and that happened in GPL5, we congratulate all the clubs for their kind cooperation. Every step undertaken to implement the game is a management learning that as a B-school, GSB was able to inculcate into the students. Apart from the fun there will be a sense of leadership and teamwork mixed in the game of cricket. The girls of GSB took exclusive charge of organising the event. During the the match, there was a running commentary and that was also done by the female managers of GSB, the institute always aims to develop in the students a sense of leadership at all times and in all events. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to CEO Mr. S. P. S. Arul Doss who initiated GPL and also we express a sincere gratitude to GPL commissioner Mr. A. Vijay Stephen CA who played pivotal role in the conduct of GPL. We also thank all the Team Owners, Brand Ambassadors who whole heartedly supported their teams through thick and thin.

Team TITANS
It's easy to do anything in victory. But it's in defeat that a man (sic) reveals himself
"It's easy to do anything in victory. But it's in defeat that a man(sic) reveals himself", says Floyd Patterson and our boys, TITANS revealed their best sportsmanship not only during their victories but also during their hard times. TITANS were convinced that losing the match may be heart-breaking; but losing ones sense of sportsmanship is a tragedy. Hence, the TITANS made it sure to cling on the sense of sportsmanship till the end Because, its not winning or losing that counts; what counts is how you play the game till the end. And our boys have proven it by securing the most prestigious of all the awards: The Fair-play Award which we believe is far more precious than the championship. What makes us feel proud of TITANS is that we the TITANS got trained like champions, won like champions and lost like champions and we know if you are undefeated, then you are not fighting the right people and we were truly glad to fight the finals with the right people, the FALCONS. In the game of life, we never lose. We either win or learn. And we are glad weve learnt. On a very personal note we, the team owners sincerely appreciate the team TITANS and their captain Mr. Sreejith for their unmatched and undisputed TEAMWORK. It was not the individual talents of our team that brought us scores of victories during the tournament, but the sheer TEAMWORK of every TITAN that made us shine as SUPERSTARS of the GPL Season 5. Special appreciations and thanks to the GPL commissioner Mr. Vijay Stephen, his deputy commissioners, the all-time umpire Mr. Prasad and every individual who were part of the success of this GPL Season 5

Superstitions and the GAME A Warriors Take

The Mysterious to the hilarious, a game of cricket has all of these. We all have our own little superstitions on what wins matches. You may have the best team and in the best of form, still there are some superstitions you do not want to attempt breaking. Hope we all have experienced situation where we have insisted that someone remain seated where they were during an on-going game because the Indian team was doing well and we lost a wicket when the person moved to drink water? We try to sit in the exact same position and place as the previous game in the belief that it was lucky for the team? Im sure every obsessed sport lover has indulged in the canard at some point in time. Cricket offers lot of ground for superstition. The most popular is the Nelson or the dreaded score of 111 and its multiples or, made popular by the enigmatic umpire David Shepherd, just like our very own here at GSB? Speaking of numerical superstitions, the Australians dislike for the Devils number 13, is very well known; this dislike even extends to the number 87 which is 13 short of a 100. There are many an examples from the world of cricket and a cursory browsing of the World Wide Web will through up. I was witness to my team losing the first two matches and I used it as an excuse to keep myself away from the ground. But what can I say, the ploy worked, we came so close to making it to the finals. Soon we were the most loathed team in GSB. Everyone wanted us to lose. The titans dreaded meeting us in the finals. The Spartans and the Falcons would both have a chance only if we lose. Witchcraft, voodoo, black magic or just telling others of your superstitious belief, I dont know what to blame, but we lost that important match. My superstitions did not work when I needed it the most. Is success achieved due to superstition or because of the players forte? The answer is pretty clear to an observer, but a little ambiguous to my teammates. I just tell them Catches Win Matches. You cannot drop two important wickets like those in the league of a Yuvraj, Kohli or Gayle and still fantasize winning when you have a temperamental Sreesanth (You know who?) bowling for you. I just tell them; after all, it is just a game. Play hard, but dont lose sight of the CIA II that is round the corner. There, no superstitions ever work. Only preparation, especially OM. Anyways, quoting Dan Milman, it is the journey that brings us happiness and not the destination and there is miles to go in this journey through the MBA program. So the next milestone is just ahead, not start Chanting Inventory Management and Layout!

Team Falcons
I am happy and proud to say that I am the team owner of the winning team FALCONS. I extend my profound thanks to GSB for providing me this wonderful opportunity to be the team owner. Congratulations from my bottom of the heart to the team players. Good Spirit! United! Awesome Leadership! I should say initial matches we were on the winning pace but suddenly we had to see certain falls due to lack of co-ordination. These gave them the way to understand where they lacked and why they failed. Then they made their mind strong that Falcons is going to own the final cup, started playing with confidence and with full vibrant spirit which made them travel to the successful destination. GPL has given tremendous learning's for all. It is not only winning. It is Team Work. It is Unity. It is Leadership. It is Hard Work, which I have also personally learnt. So remember all that these things could do marvels in our lives. ALL THE BEST

Team SPARTNAS
Though we were not able to make it to finals, I am happy with our teams performance. In our team we have some good allrounders, bowlers and batsman. But we had some misses and problems in our field. Apart from that, rest all the three teams played really well. I am so glad with our team spirit and co-ordination. We got nice support from our team owners Mr. S. P. S. Arul Doss, Mr. Sankar Singh and Ms. Noorunisha. CEO contributed very well both with ball & bat. He was the real strength of our team. I would like to thank all our supporters, especially Brand Ambassadors. .

CEOs Report
GPL Season 5 was really an awesome event this time. Encouragingly, the dynamism of GPL changes year by year. Especially this Season 5 triggered the spirit of sportsmanship among the players to a higher level as well everybody in GSB felt the pulse of cricket as sport when his or her own team played on the field. Being an owner of the team SPARTANS, gave me a wonderful experience by playing with my team mates. Strategy, wonderful unity and awesome coordination were existing. All kind of expressions were seen on the field not only by players but also by the team owners and others. First ever in GPL history, a player getting century is marked as a record. Hope this GPL in coming years will kindle the interest of everybody and will be looked upon high and gets new form. Congratulations for all the players for your wonderful team spirit and sportsmanship. Signing of this season of GPL.
