1.3Literature Review: 1. (Newspapers on the rise in the Indian market, 2013)

When we talk about survival of the printed newspaper, there are three things that come to mind printing, news, and news on paper. Therefore, we have to be clear as to whose survival possibilities we are asking about. If it is printing, then let me tell you that recorded history of print media can be traced back to the 1st century BC, during the time of Julius Caesar. Thereafter, we see it appearing in China in the 8th century AD, and then on. Unless you are sitting under the open sky in a field, looking up and admiring the blue sky, you are sure to find some printed material. Apart from newspaper, books, calendars, booklets, brochures, packets, and a number of special printing like solar

printing, print on glass, print on ceramic, print on decorative tiles, you will find laminates, printed circuit board or textile printing. 2. (Kirchhoff, 2010) The newspaper industry is now losing its market as day by day many readers are turning to online news from newspaper. In between 2008-10 almost 8 newspaper companies had shut down because of recession & its effects.Newspaper companies are one side losing their customers because of internet & in other side, because of recession companies are also facing problem of decrease in revenue from advertisement. So companies face problems from both sides.Newspaper companies really need new business model for them. Cost cutting is also not much efficient to sustain in long run.

3. (Fan, 2012) A study done on U.S. Daily newspaper market where researcher had studied almost 422 newspapers/ year for almost 7 years of study. It had majorly focused on ownership consolidation between 2 companies (Star Tribune and the St. Paul Pioneer Press in Minneapolis market). The publisher of these two newspapers had decreased the content quality, the local news ratio and variety of the Star and the Pioneer. Subscription prices of both newspapers increase. It led to a decrease in circulation of both newspapers, with a larger drop in the Pioneer.Merger between 2 newspapers led to decrease in customer base, as the same newspaper was not able to serve to both type of customers as it was earlier used to cater.A couple of limitations had been faced by researchers which can be removed & can be made a good future topic for research.

4. (Newspapers : Why Indias newspaper industry is booming, 2011)

The newspaper has a weekly circulation of more than four thousand copies, but its offices are modest. One small room with bright blue walls houses the production team which comprises no fewer than seven people at any given time. The adjacent room, piled high with old editions, is the reception area hosting a steady stream of local businessmen and women here to take out advertisements. Advertisements are the
4

lifeblood of this local newspaper and its pages are filled with classified postings for jobs and services. Revenue from these is growing, and keeps the paper functioning, says its editor Vincent D'Souza. This is in stark contrast to that of many local newspapers in the US and the UK, which have been forced to shut down or scale back because of diminishing advertising income."The story in India is quite different because local businesses are growing because of globalisation and opening up of the markets

Research design is going to deal with aspects such as how we will achieve earlier mentioned objectives.

Descriptive Research
