Injustice, according to the Websters Dictionary; is the absence of justice and the unfair treatment of others where a person or a groups rights are stripped away and/or totally ignored. This word might be used loosely by a six year old while she exclaims the injustice done towards he or she for not getting the extra scoop of ice-cream in his or her bowl or it can be used to paint you a story of the unfair and inhumane treatment of the Japanese Americans during WWII. " " During WWII between the years of 1942 and 1945, thousands of

Japanese Americans regardless of their citizenship, were forced to leave their homes and live in internment camps scattered all over the US. " Through out this process they lost everything. Their homes, Businesses and precious possessions, memories they had built over generations. All lost to the fear and contempt their fellow American brothers and sisters. This correlated directly to Milton Bennettes Model of sensitivity. Specically Defense against Difference. The belief that ones own culture is superior to another. They were forced pack only what they could carry, to live in tiny cramped quarters in inhospitable environments. "

Many Japanese Americans constitutional rights were violated dur-

ing their time in the camps as well. Shinto is a Japanese religion that was strictly prohibited in the camps while Christianity was encouraged by the camp advisory, they went so far to send clergy of Buddhism practices to separate internment camps(JACL). This was a violation to the American Constitution of the Freedom of Religion. Freedom of speech was violated due to the fact that they were not allowed to speak or write Japanese. English was the required language and was the only language that could be used in public gatherings (JACL). As a Chinese American woman I wonder what it was like to feel that they were losing their culture. To have America shoved down their throats in the form of being made to salute the American Flag and to sing Americas national songs. Another right to US citizens is Habeas Corpus, the right for a citizen to be brought before the courts in order to obtain freedom unless there is cause that rebellion or civilian safety were in jeopardy (Websters Dictionary). Mitsuye Endo was a second generation Japanese woman who challenged the courts and it was declared in 1944 that there were no grounds for her connement (US Supreme Court)." " I have witnessed anthers hate towards their fellow man rst hand at

a small cafe by my apartment. It was not because of the color of his skin, he was as white as they come born and raised in Alabama. It wasnt because he was dressed bad, he is a professional Interior designer who owns his own business. It was because he was gay. My friend is a very

well put together, polite and sophisticated gay man. Who was told by the barista that she Didnt serve his kind. I didnt hear the conversation that they had but I saw him walk away from the counter angry so I walked after him to see what happened. My heart went out to him. There stood a man who was in his mid 30s in modern America being told to hypothetically sit in the back of the bus. I am not gay but being a minority I know all to well about the sting of rejection because of being different. I went to a predominantly latino Jr. High were I was teased for being part Chinese. I dont understand why this still happens. Dont we live in the Land of the Free? Where we are all equal? As I thought about this question I realized that the constitution was written during a time where this principle held true if you were; A.) White B.) Owned Land and C.) Were a MAN. At the same time I realize my liberal and more accepting disposition is not shared by everyone. Not everyone can let themselves have compassion and embrace what they dont know. Maybe it is due to learned religious views or the way their parents taught them because I know that racism is learned not inherited. " " These types of things do not only happen here but they happen all

over they world today. Hate crimes in Europe against migrating Muslims and In South East Asia and middle east young girls under the age of 15 are forced into marriages. This is Mostly do to tradition and gender rolls. Being born a girl you are not worth as much as a son. Also the necessity caused by poverty in India(Girls not Brides). In an interview done with

Meenakshi Guanguly, the director of South Asias Humans Right Watch with Time Magazine, Meenakshi was quoted to saying Early marriage cuts short education, places them at risk of domestic abuse and marital rape, and makes them economically dependent, (hunter). This doesnt count the many girls killed each year in child birth. In a study done girls who give birth before the age of 15 are 5 times more limey to die then a woman who is in her 20s(Girls not Brides.) " In current news India has refused to join the UNs effort to end child labor and believe nothing is wrong because they say the age at which a girl can marry is not clearly dened(Hunter). " " I am not sure why these things happen. I know the idea and the

concept of everyone getting along and loving each other is a beautiful one and I really wish that it could happen. I think that there is always going to be someone who feels that they are being over powered. There will always be people who think that they are better than the next. Maybe it is primal to us. Maybe we have adapted to he concept that not only must we survive but we must rule as well. Even if it is over the young and innocent, even if its over something different that scares us. Or maybe we are doomed to repeat history until we can all come together and plan a future in unity. "
