Learn the basic principles and functions of Automation & Robotics. Generate interest amongst students in applying robotic tools to problems. Learn the basics of Transducers/Sensors, Actuators, Analyzers and Drives. Describe the major existing application areas for Automation robotics.

Contents: Automation: Introduction to automatic control system. Purpose of automatic control system. Implementation of industrial control systems. Sensors: Motion and position sensors, Force sensors, Hydraulic and pneumatic sensors, Temperature sensors, Light, radiation and humidity sensors. Controllers: Computer control, Computer-process interface, Digital input/output processing. Speed Control, Pulse width modulation speed control of dc and ac motors, stepper motor control. Position Control Friction, backlash and resilience Machine tool control, Remote position control Examples on position control. Process Control, Pneumatic controllers, Analog and digital electronic process controllers, Hybrid systems, practical examples. Hydraulics Control Systems Hydraulic fluids, Basic hydraulic System, Hydraulic pumps and valves. Actuators: Electromechanical actuator, Hydraulic actuator, Pneumatic actuator. Robotics: Introduction to Robotics, requirement of a robot, types of Robot. Robot Hard Ware: Joint arrangements, Grippers and tools, Encoders, Motors and Control, Teaching methods, Path Control, Arm kinematics, Input and Output, Timing in a work cell. Sensors And Vision: Robot sensors, vision systems, Industrial application, Image acquisition and processing. Robot Application: General Considerations, Material transfer, Spray Coating, Machine loading, process operations, Welding, assembly, Inspection. Recommended Books: 1. R.R.
