The non-redundant Process Historian (PH) machine is because of some reason broken. The PC must be exchanged and new installed. The already existing database should be used for the new installation. Therefore one needs a full database backup. This full DB backup can be restored to a PH Database after exchanging the machine. This document offers a guideline for the following Scenarios. 1. New installation of PH software on the existing hardware 2. PH hardware exchange due to hardware defect In both scenarios an existing PH database shall be used without data loss. Data which is available on the OS revolving archive, but not in the PH database, can be recovered against the OS revolving archive. To make sure that the data are available inside of the OS archive, we recommend creating a full database backup file in half of the time range the OS archive is configured.

Example

The OS archive contains 4 Weeks of data. In this case one should generate a full database backup every 2 weeks. That means in the worst case the data of two weeks must be recovered against the OS archive. Prerequisite The computer name doesn't change The PH is non-redundant Additional reasons to create a full data backup of the Process Historian database All runtime database segments, which are visible inside of the Segmentation menu of the PH Management Console, must be backuped with a full database backup. Segment backups created with help of the PH Management Console menu Backup and Restore, can be restored in a Historian Storage database they are created from. It is not possible to restore a PH segment backup into an empty Historian Storage database.

Action
NOTE
A file of a full database backup could be huge, if the database is huge! Creating a huge backup file is also time consuming. There are different reasons because a full database backup fails, for instance concurrent database connections. If a full database backup on a running PH fails, the PH Services must be deactivated before creating a full database backup. The following table shows the steps which have to be executed if a full backup fails:

NOTE

In case the PH has been installed completely new, and the Process Historian database installation wizard wasnt executed, there is no Historian Storage database which must be detached.
2)
In case the PH has been installed completely new, and the Process Historian database installation wizard has been executed, the Historian Storage database is empty and can be deleted.
4)
In this example, just in case, the original Historian Storage database is also stored on the disc drive, but therefore enough disc capacity is needed.
5)
After a Process Historian system restart the Process Historian changes into the state active. After approximately 30 minutes the system will create a recovery against the OS archive to close the data gap. Therefore time synchronization between the Process Historian and the OS Systems is mandatory.
CAUTION
3)
If you delete an existing Historian Storage database which contains the process data, without having a healthy and complete full database backup file, you lose your process data.
