What is Dscript,
Dscript is a Dimensional Script. The D was originally meant to represent Directional because the first version was designed as a cursive writing system that could be drawn both vertically and horizontally. There is no particular language associated with Dscript, but there is an alphabet optimized for English. There are plenty of materials also teaching how to adapt it to other alphabets and languages. n the left here you see the v!." Dscript English alphabet. These letters are very basic pen stro#es and shapes that are very fle$ible and efficient in %D. They can be combined in many very intuitive ways, allowing great fle$ibility. & originally mapped out all '(' combinations ) %'*%'+'(' , in a document called the Dscript -anual. & have revised Dscript a bit since then so the manual is somewhat outdated. This document e$plains the new system. The old -anual is still a good resource though. .sing these letters, an English word can be turned into a string and curled up into a glyph. n the right you see Sha#espeare/s Sonnet !0 ) Shall & compare thee to a summer/s day... , 1s you can see the vertical version creates tall strings, this is the simple form of Dscript. 2etters are then combined in various ways and the strings curled up, bent etc.. to produce more compressed character li#e forms. 1s in the e$amples below.

1fter developing the directional script, & found the both horizontal and vertical forms when used together allowed the original letter string to be curled up and fit into tight and odd shaped spaces. 3y allowing the letters to connect in multiple ways, even placing letters inside of other letters, and letting the string for#4branch, words, or even phrases, can be rolled up into glyphs and sigils, yet still be legible in both letters and se5uence. This is an e$ample attempting to visually describe the Dscript concept using the first bit of the .niversal Declaration of 6uman 7ights. 8ords in dscript have many forms, these are 9ust some.

.sing this one can produce a wide variety of loo#s and feels from supplied te$t. &t can be used to fill almost any setting re5uiring foreign or alien te$t. 1nd the best part is that one can choose to invent a new language or use an e$isting one. 3y using English or another e$isting language, the players4viewers would have a chance to decipher the te$t and learn to produce their own symbols for any word. :reatly adding to player4viewer engagement.

Numbers
There are also number systems for Dscript. There are base !;4!', base !%, base "%, and the most effective and practical, base !;;. Dscript base !;; numbers are basically a way to compress % decimal digits into a single glyph. The system is 5uite simple, there are !0 possible additions to the core cirlce < for !/s and < for !;/s.

Dscript base !;; numbers are 5uic# and easy, do not re5uire a lot of practice, and allow creative and efficient use of writing space 2oops, curls and bends are reversible, allowing multiple forms and various writing options.

Chemistry
The Dscript principle can be e$tended beyond alphabetical language. &t can also be used as a %D notation system. 3y using the letters to represent elements for e$ample, a chemistry notation system can be devised. The first attempt at such is Dchem, a chemistry notation system geared toward bio=chemistry and bio=molecule notation. Dchem sacrifices stereo=chemistry, bond strength, and hydrogen/s. &t uses a base of only > letters, ?@ AS, which allows each letter a greater degree of fle$ibility. These > elements )?arbon, @itrogen, $ygen, Ahosphorus, and Sulphur, are the #ey elements of most bio=chemistry.

Dchem allows the #ey structure to be drawn without as much noise from other aspects li#e stereo=chemistry, aiding in memorizing large amounts of chemical structure or large molecules.

Learning
Dscript learning materials alone can be 5uite stunning. 6ere are a few e$ample used to teach Dscript and show off its capabilities.

T6E - @BEC 1@D T6E ?1T nce upon a time a ?at and a -on#ey lived as pets in the same house. They were great friends and were constantly in all sorts of mischief together. 8hat they seemed to thin# of more than anything else was to get something to eat, and it did not matter much to them how they got it. ne day they were sitting by the fire, watching some chestnuts roasting on the hearth. 6ow to get them was the 5uestion. D& would gladly get them,D said the cunning -on#ey, Dbut you are much more s#illful at such things than & am. Aull them out and &/ll divide them between us.D Aussy stretched out her paw very carefully, pushed aside some of the cinders, and drew bac# her paw very 5uic#ly. Then she tried it again, this time pulling a chestnut half out of the fire. 1 third time and she drew out the chestnut. This performance she went through several times, each time singeing her paw severely. 1s fast as she pulled the chestnuts out of the fire, the -on#ey ate them up. @ow the master came in, and away scampered the rascals, -istress ?at with a burnt paw and no chestnuts. Erom that time on, they say, she contented herself with mice and rats and had little to do with Sir -on#ey. The flatterer see#s some benefit at your e$pense.

The Eo$ and the Stor# = &n Dscript The Eo$ one day thought of a plan to amuse himself at the e$pense of the Stor#, at whose odd appearance he was always laughing. DCou must come and dine with me today,D he said to the Stor#, smiling to himself at the tric# he was going to play. The Stor# gladly accepted the invitation and arrived in good time and with a very good appetite. Eor dinner the Eo$ served soup. 3ut it was set out in a very shallow dish, and all the Stor# could do was to wet the very tip of his bill. @ot a drop of soup could he get. 3ut the Eo$ lapped it up easily, and, to increase the disappointment of the Stor#, made a great show of en9oyment. The hungry Stor# was much displeased at the tric#, but he was a calm, even=tempered fellow and saw no good in flying into a rage. &nstead, not long afterward, he invited the Eo$ to dine with him in turn. The Eo$ arrived promptly at the time that had been set, and the Stor# served a fish dinner that had a very appetizing smell. 3ut it was served in a tall 9ar with a very narrow nec#. The Stor# could easily get at the food with his long bill, but all the Eo$ could do was to lic# the outside of the 9ar, and sniff at the delicious odor. 1nd when the Eo$ lost his temper, the Stor# said calmlyF Do not play tric#s on your neighbors unless you can stand the same treatment yourself.

Reflected Text
Dscript te$t tends to produce some very nice results when reflected in various ways. The large size and high comple$ity of each glyph means when reflected and mergeed can produce some amazingly comple$ results. 7ecently & have en9oyed ma#ing #aleidoscope li#e effects.

Application
Eor those interested in mapping Dscript to new alphabets, languages, and applications, there is the Dscript for other languages guide. This outlines the principles of Dscript and how to design letters capable of dimensional writing. Dscript can accommodate almost any alphabet, but the system does wor#s best for smaller alphabets. The efficiency of Dscript brea#s down at alphabets of over G; or so letters.

Tips & Tric s

Eirst off it is always better to start by learning the vertical form and slowly wor#ing into a fully %D writing style. 3ut if you want to dive right in, then here are a few tips and tric#s to speed things up. -ost importantly always remember the string can have for#s, so if you are having trouble fitting it into a certain enclosed space, step bac# and be creative. Try to thin# of new ways of for#ing the string, eg. &f you find yourself getting stuc# when you go right=down=left, try going down= right=up, or down the middle and for# both left and right, etc... -ost words have many possible forms, longer words can have countless possible forms, & am now using a rather standardized width for my characters, and have not yet gotten stuc# without a solution even though & have done many stories and countless long words. ne the ne$t page you will find a graphic with some visual descriptions of some tips on how to deal with the more comple$ elements. These slightly tric#y parts are a result of the trade off for efficiency and economy of pen stro#es. 1n alternate Dscript system can easily be designed to not have these tric#y elements, but they seem a very small price to pay for the added efficiency, e$tra fle$ibility and saved pen stro#es. There are also plenty of combination methods & have resisted employing. Sometimes it is because & fear it will be too visually similar to something else, sometimes because it is difficult to write)mechanical limits of hand,, and sometimes 9ust because & don/t li#e the way it loo#s. This version of Dscript for English is more of a starting point, or framewor#. 3e creative F, 9ust be sure to avoid ambiguity, and if encountered, always ensure there is some method for distinguishing the value. Cou may be tempted to at times thin# -ehH There are no wards with the letter combo /I:28J1/, why do & need to to be able to write thatK & can have a system that has some ambiguity if the ambiguity is for combos that are never used, and you would be correct.. to a point. Dscript, however, already drops capitalization, this might not seem very important at first, especially considering some languages don/t even use capitalization. 3ut science D ES, the periodic table of elements for e$ample. So if you want to leave the door open for advanced usage, technical vocabulary, scientific notation, or cyphers )you could cypher the te$t before writing it in Dscript, & recommend at the bare minimum you should be able to write any and all strings of letters.
