Haida Gwaii Place of Wonder

Archipelago Ventures
Our five-day Place of Wonder tour visits all of the high points of Gwaii Haanas. We visit four Haida village sites including Ninstints at the World Heritage Site of SGaang Gwaay Llnagaay (Anthony Island). We paddle through gorgeous marine-scapes and observe beautiful and interesting intertidal marine life. Gwaii Haanas is most closely associated with cultural and marine activities but the forests of Haida Gwaii are something else again. We hike through some well chosen examples of these spectacular ancient forests and often find evidence of early Haida use of botanical resources. We stop in at the small community of Rose Harbour where my friend Susan provides an unforgettable feast from her organic garden and the sea. We fish daily - prawns, salmon, crab, and halibut are often found on the menu. Our mother ship, the M.V. Island Bay will transport us in comfort and safety on a one-direction only adventure that begins or ends with a spectacular seaplane sightseeing flight over Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve.

Tour length: Five days Dates: July 22-26, July 27-31, Aug 21-25, Aug 26-30 Contact information: 1-888-559-8317 / info@tourhaidagwaii.com

Legacy Pole
Our Legacy Pole tour offers a comfortable, safe and cost effective way to experience many of the highlights of Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve. We travel in comfort aboard the M.V. Island Bay, a 42-foot, Transport Canada certified passenger vessel that has been safely navigating the waters of Haida Gwaii and the north coast for over thirty years. The Legacy Pole was erected in the summer of 2013 and now stands proudly at Hlk-yah GaawGa (Windy Bay), commemorating 20 years of cooperation between the Haida Nation and the Government of Canada making Gwaii Haanas one of National Geographics choice places to visit on the planet. This trip leaves from Cumshewa Inlet and visits several spectacular ancient Haida village sites. Well be stopping at K-uuna Llnagaay (Skedans), T-aanu Llnagaay (Tanu), and Hlk-yah GaawGa (Windy Bay) - all populated by interesting and informative Haida Gwaii Watchmen. Along the way well be paddling and hiking some spectacular places in Juan Perez Sound and Darwin Sound such as the Bischoff Islands, De La Beche Inlet, Burnaby Narrows, Echo Harbour. Well be fishing for prawns, salmon, crab, Tour length: Four days Dates: July 14-17, July 18-21, Aug 13-16, Aug 17-20, Aug 31-Sep 3, Sep 4-7 Contact information: 1-888-559-8317 / info@tourhaidagwaii.com

Bioluminescence 3hr Nighttime Kayak Tour

Join us for a memorable evening experiencing and learning about bioluminescence -- the production and emmission of light by organisms. Bioluminescence occurs in the Gulf Islands seasonally as warmer temperatures allow dinoflagellates -- single celled plant-like organisms to flourish. When disturbed, dinoflagellates emit light as a defence mechanism. As the light fades and your paddle becomes harder to see, its movement through the water is soon illuminated as it agitates the living ocean. Although wildlife is difficult to see above the water in darkness, movements of other creatures below the surface are illuminated as well. Schools of fish that remain elusive during the day reveal their presence by the comets tail of sparkeling light they trail behind them. This unique tour is accessible to all paddlers (provided you have no fear of the dark!). Itinerary: Begins at sunset. There will be ample time in the afternoon for beach combing, snorkeling, and desert exploration. This route will bring us to a new campsite most nights. Weather permitting; we usually spend the last night Coronado Island, before paddling back into Loreto. The is a terrific route for intermediate paddlers, or beginners who are looking to expand their paddling experience. Itinerary: 7 Days, 7 Nights. San Nicolas to Loreto

Loreto to La Paz

Baja Kayak Adventure Tours

The 10-day Loreto to La Paz trip is a slightly more advanced trip then our others. This trip is very remote route with only a few road access points along the way. The coastline is ever changing as we paddle down a section of the Sierra Giganta mountain range, changing camps every day. This is a pick-up-and-go style of trip where the main focus is paddling, yet leaving time in the afternoons for snorkeling, hiking and relaxation. We pass by hot springs, small fishing camps and villages set along this amazing coastline. This route is true expedition paddling. Islands to Agua Verde

One of our newest and favorite trips: Islands to Agua Verde. This route is a mix of the South Islands and Loreto-La Paz. Starting with the fabulous beaches of Isla Carmen and Isla Danzante, then well cross over and paddle south along the remote coastline to the quaint village of Agua Verde. The small and remote fishing village of Agua Verde is situated in one of the most beautiful and protected bays in the Baja Peninsula. Along the way we will visit an inter-tidal hot spring, and a ranch that has been worked by the same family for hundreds of years. This is an excellent trip for any skill level, and gives you a taste of real Baja culture with its amazing wildlife and geology! Itinerary: 7 Days, 6 Nights. Puerto Escondido to Agua Verde
