CHILDREN'S HEALTH AND WELLBEING hildren's health and wellbeing Introduction

In my view of play, children can engage in learning by participating in various experiences which encourage children to explore and express their ideas through meaningful play. Playing is crucial to childrens healthy physical, mental, social and emotional health and wellbeing, and therefore to their families and to communities as a whole. Any play can be considered as a model of processes and relations that are actual in a real world. Therefore, children learn how to react in the different situations and meet challenges in a real world. Talking about plays, it also should mentioned that plays may be controlled or uncontrolled. For instance, some plays to develop special skills may be introduced to children. We should mention about other important issue in this context. We do not consider a play as some game. We mean play as a model of relations and processes in a real world. For instance, children usually try to repeat relations and behavior of adult persons. They act like their parents etc. It is a form of play that help children to develop require skills and features of character. Thus play is important for children and their learning as well as it helps the children to experience the real world with respect to take high risks and learn from their mistakes. It also helps them to think creatively and imaginatively. By communicating with others, they can easily explore their ideas of solving problems. It is thus the powerful way to develop the wellbeing agency. (Croydon, 2011). Episode one- (agency, healthy & wellbeing) J was busy doing something with little boxes. It was yellow in colour. So i approached him and asked John What are you doing? J replied in a sequencing manner that he is trying

to arrange the name of days (From Monday to Friday) by the help of given names and alphabets. Other children like his friend T, also taking interest and actively participating in this game. T was trying to put the piece in the hole and J grasped it out and said No thats E! We have to find Y. J kept looking around the table and suddenly shouted Look!! I found Y J grasped a piece of letter Y , and gave it to T and said You can put this into the hole. As they completed the words of Monday T shouted yeah!! Kim, look at this, we made it!. They continued to create new words from the puzzle until it was lunch time. Reflection about Development of agency In my understanding of the above based observation, core knowledge of agency in childrens play in relation to their learning of health and wellbeing of the children is a process that children go through their own learning activities while observing and researching their environment. The key elements of agency pertain to three elements which are being in the world, exploring and understanding the world and acting on the world. (Robert, 2010). According to observation one, it is easy to see how closely influencing, learning and positive sense of self are knitted together in the observation. In other words, we can define agency as the process of observation and exploring the external world. The third important element of this process is acting in the world. The complex of these elements helps children to understand the world and become its active parts in a future. The following questions are related to this problem. First of all, we have to understand how agency can be developed via playing. Second of all, we have to understand how development of agency is related with wellbeing of children.

As it has been already mentioned, any play is a model of a real world. It also requires such process as observation, understanding, exploring and acting. The skills that are developed via playing can be implemented in a real world in the future. For example, a child may learn how to solve a particular problem, having a range of instruments and tools. His/her task is just to choose from these instruments. You wont argue that a choice is probably among the most difficult tasks in life of an adult person. The second question is whether playing can be positive for a childs wellbeing. In fact, we can be convinced in it. Playing has only positive influence on a childs health and wellbeing. Talking about wellbeing we mean physical and social wellbeing. First of all, physical and mental games help children to develop their organisms. Playing develops the following skills and features of character: intelligence, communication skills, curiosity, flexible thinking, persistence, independence, stability and responsibility. As we can see, all the features are crucial for further social inclusion of a person. We have the following situation in the provided case. The children are trying to solve some particular task. They understand the task and know about the possible instruments of its solution. They observe the surrounding world in order to choose the right instrument. They act, they do it and then experience happiness from reaching the stated goal. You wont argue that it is the direct model of a situation in a real adult world. Episode two ( Communication , health and wellbeing) Children were playing in Sandpit area and what could be commonly seen in a real restaurant setting. Child S and L were acting as the chef and waiter; other two children were acting as customers seemed to be a couple. The couple pretended to ask the S to recommend a dish for them. The S responded we have a very special pizza today then the couple responded ok, then can we get a pizza?. Then S said got up suddenly and said I need some salt, before I start then L replied I will bring some here S.

L hopped over the sand pit and then and picked up the grey sieve and started put some sand in it. In the meanwhile, S pretended making a pizza by using a bowl and sand then S said pizza is ready! Do you want some parsley on it? and other two children responded yes please. Then S she hopped over the sand pit and picked up a leaf from the garden area and ripped a leaf on a pizza. After the meal, the two children asked L for the bill in which the waiter responded its 20 dollars the two children pretended paying 50 dollars with blank paper and the L returned their change. The children role-playing seemed to be very comfortable ordering food and paying for it. Reflection To begin with this particular question we would like to provide definition of the term communication. In our opinion, one of the most appropriate definitions of this term is the following. Communication is transfer of information from one person to another, whether or not it elicits confidence. But the information transferred must be understandable to the receiver (Communication Theory). Simply speaking, communication is exchange of information between people. Communication is very important for a child, since it helps to develop necessary social skills and also get a lot of other benefits from this process. Taking into account conditions of the modern society, any person is a social person. Without an appropriate degree of social inclusion, it is impossible to live a full life nowadays. Appropriate degree of social inclusion provides communication with other social persons, participation in social processes and acceptation of the whole range of social institutions. These institutions include family, community, school, church, country etc. You will not argue that it is difficult to imagine life without them.

Thus, in order to reach satisfying level of well-being a child has to be socially included. Communication helps to develop required skills for such inclusion flexibility, empathy, ability for negotiations and looking for consensus etc. It is important, because the degree of social inclusions significantly depends on readiness of other people to accept you. Also, a child can get a lot of other useful benefits from communication with other children, parents, adult people etc. For example, he/she gets needed information and knowledge, he/she gets friends and social contacts, he/she receives partners for playing, in the end. Our opinion can be proved by the following words. The process of communicating with others begins at birth and continues to develop throughout life. Primary school children are at an age when their abilities to express themselves, listen to others and successfully communicate their thoughts and feelings undergo rapid change. They are often eager to learn how to communicate better (Childrens Communication). The situation that has been provided is a great example of typical relations in a real world. The children have to communicate in a typical situation. They prepare themselves for the similar situations in the future via playing. Also, we can say that this play was just a simulation of relations of adult people that had been observed by these children. Conclusion To conclude we would like to say the following. Mental and physical health of a person, his/her wellbeing in life depends significantly on information that was received in childhood. Our personality is formed in childhood. That is why it is really important to laid down foundations for development of required skills and features of character. Agency development and communication help children to build their personality. Children learn how to behave in an adult world via playing, since plays are models of real

situations. Agency development teaches them how to understand the surrounding world, observe it and act. Communication teaches children to exchange information with other persons. Such exchange is important for successful development of the whole society. Also, it develops needed features of character. These features have been explained in this essay. In the end, it is a condition of successful degree of social inclusion of a person that is a key to social wellbeing in the modern society.
