It was one-way traffic for the most part as potential customers of all ages weaved their way through the Valley Event Center during the Walleyes Unlimiteds Spring Bazaar this past Saturday. Over 40 local and state vendors were on hand, including some fun stuff for the kids to do, including an

indoor shooting range. And Auzzys Cook Shack, setting up camp way in the back, was a popular stop. The 30th Annual Walleyes Unlimited Banquet was as always very well attended, raising funds for local projects, scholarships, and various community events.

Ever walk into a room with some purpose in mind, only to completely forget what that purpose was? Turns out, doors themselves are to blame for these strange

lapses. Psychologists Its a door thing! memory at the University of Notre Dame have discovered that passing through a doorway triggers whats known as an event boundary in the mind, separating one set of thoughts and memories from the next.

Your brain files away the thoughts you had in the previous room and prepares a blank slate for the new locale. Whew, scientific proof. What a relief to learn this, and thank goodness for studies like this. Its not our age, its that damn door!

Scotty softball off to 1-0 start

If the first outing is any indication, the Scotty softball team appears locked & loaded with their sights on making a return trip to the State Tournament. At the 2013 State Class B-C Softball Tournament in Great Falls, the Scotties beat St. Ignatius 4-3 in their opening-round game but were eliminated in the next two, losing to eventual champion Florence-Carlton 12-2 and to third-place finisher Columbus 10-6. Glasgow opened the season in Miles City this past Friday, dumping the Cowgirls 7-1 with an impressive 15 hits to the host teams two with Shyla Bergtoll providing the smoke from the mound. The Scotties have the bulk of the team back this season along with a few bonuses including Tyra Johnson who transferred here from Belgrade (daughter of Gil and Stacy Johnson). Tyra was a perfect 4-4 from the plate; Abbi Kolstad 3-4, Meagan Rasmusan 2-3, Ellen Walstad 2-4, Bergtoll 1-3, Makenzie Wesen 1-4, Sage Sukut 1-4, and Mariah Stein 1-5. Sadie Sukut was shut out (0-3) as was Autumn Hopkins (0-1) but we know that will change. The Scotties are scheduled to be in Glendive for a double header this Tuesday. JV plays at 2:30 followed by a pair of varsity games at 4:00 and 5:30.

Bison Discussion Canceled

State wildlife officials canceled a planned discussion that was to take place in Lewistown Tuesday and Wednesday on a bison conservation and management plan for Montana. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks had invited a diverse group of interests and a number of state and community leaders to continue to participate in a facilitated public discussion in Lewistown on April 15-16. That gathering, which would have been the second since September, is canceled. We worked to gather a large group of fundamentally different interests and constituencies, but there remained serious questions about intent and representation that are difficult to resolve, said Jeff Hagener, director of FWP in Helena.

Cold air settled over much of northeast Montana this morning. At least four stations set new record daily low temps this morning. St Maries new record of 10 crushed the old record of 15 from 2000, Jordan Airport old record 18 from 2000 is now 12, Wolf Point Airport old record 20 from 2000 is now 17, and Malta old record of 16 from 2000 is now 10. Glasgows low of 11 this morning couldnt top the old record of 6 in 1986, but Sundays low of 13 was a record for the date. And we might see snow Tuesday night and Wednesday. Good grief.
Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28. East southeast wind 8 to 13 mph. Tuesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 56. Light and variable wind becoming north northwest 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon. Tuesday Night: A chance of rain showers before midnight, then a chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 24. East northeast wind 10 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. Wednesday: A 20 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 37. Northeast wind 13 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Wednesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 21. East wind 11 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph. Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 47. East southeast wind 13 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 27. Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 56. Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 61. Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 65.

Montanas special drawing deadlines outlined, SuperTag chances on sale now

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks deadlines to apply for special license drawings is May 1 for bison, moose, bighorn sheep and mountain goat; and June 2 for the elk B, deer B and antelope license drawings. FWP reminds hunters applying for moose, sheep and goat licenses that they will see changes in fees as a result of legislation adopted by the 2013 Montana Legislature. In past years, hopeful resident hunters were required to submit $75 with their application for a $125 license, plus pay a $5 drawing fee. This year, resident hunters need only submit a nonrefundable $10 application fee per license and then pay the full license fee of $125 if successful. Nonresidents are also included in the new fee arrangement. In past years, nonresident hunters were required to submit $750, the entire cost of a moose, bighorn sheep or mountain goat license, plus pay a $5 drawing fee. This year nonresident hunters need only submit a nonrefundable $50 application fee per license and then pay the full license fee of $750 if successful. Residents and nonresidents can also participate in the bonus point system to increase their chances of success in the drawing. Bonus points are $2 per species for residents and $20 per species for nonresidents. Applying for special big game hunting permits and licenses is a lot easier these days for hunters who apply early and online at fwp.mt.gov. SUPERTAG Montanas SuperTag chances for the hunt of a lifetime are now on sale. Hunters can win the SuperTag drawing by purchasing one or more $5 SuperTag chances for the fall 2014 hunting season. Eight SuperTag hunt licenses are offered moose, bighorn sheep, mountain goat, elk, deer, antelope, mountain lion and bison. Winners may hunt any district open to the species for which they won a tag. SuperTags are available at all FWP offices, license providers, or online at fwp.mt.gov. Click Montanas SuperTag. SuperTags can be purchased using FWPs online licensing service. A 2014 conservation license is needed to purchase a SuperTag. Proceeds from SuperTag sales go to enhance hunting access and enforcement. The deadline to purchase SuperTag chances is July 3.

Two fishermen were out on the lake when one of them dropped his wallet. As they watched the wallet float down to the depths of the lake, a carp came along and snatched up the wallet. Soon came another carp who stole it away from the first carp, and then a third joined in. Remarked one of the fisherman, Thats the first time Ive ever seen carp-to-carp walleting.
