While this years Boston Marathon is expected to draw great interest from the community, leading to more fans and spectators, those interested in attending the race are also being asked for their cooperation in following reasonable and common sense guidelines that will help ensure the safety and security of participants, volunteers, and spectators. Spectators along the course are discouraged from possessing any of the items listed below. Possession of any of these items may result in delays when passing through security checkpoints and enhanced screening.
. Weapons or items of any kind that may be used as weapons, including rearms, knives, mace, etc. . Backpacks or any similar item carried over the shoulder. . Suitcases and rolling bags/rollers. . Coolers. . Glass containers or cans. . Flammable liquids, fuels, reworks or explosives. . Any container capable of carrying more than 1 liter of liquid. . Handbags or packages or bulky items larger than 12 x 12 x 6 inches. . Large blankets/comforters, duvets, sleeping bags. . Costumes covering the face or any non-form tting, bulky outts extending beyond the perimeter of the body. . Props (including sporting equipment and military and re gear).

The B.A.A.s mobile app will help you learn about the race, its runners, and allow you to track your favorite athletes on April 21! The mobile app allows for you to select up to ten runners, and decide which updates youd like to receive; you can choose either the 10K, 13.1-mile, 30K marks or the Finish Line, or any combination of those four. To get the app, search Boston Marathon in the Apple or Android app store.

VIEWING THE BOSTON MARATHON IN HOPKINTON

Limited parking is available at the South Street lot on Route 495 and the Hopkinton State Park on Route 85. Shuttle buses will run between each lot and Hopkinton Center during race morning, and continue until 1:00 p.m. People will not be allowed to board these B.A.A. buses if they are carrying any of the prohibited items listed above. Viewing along the course in each of the respective cities and towns is based on a rst-come basis.

New for 2014, the B.A.A. created and launched the Boston Marathon World Run, a mobile application and website that connects runners from around the world to the 2014 Boston Marathon. This virtual experience allows anyone, regardless of ability or geography, to run or wheel a distance of their choosing and participate in the athletic spirit of the Boston Marathon. The app, created in partnership with John Hancock Financial Services and Manulife Financial, integrates with social media networks to create a virtual running community. Users receive digital training and nisher badges, as well as a downloadable bib number and nisher certicate. While there is no registration fee, participants are encouraged to donate to the One Fund Boston. BOSTON MARATHON APPAREL

Ofcial Boston Marathon apparel will be on sale at the John Hancock Sports & Fitness Expo, a kiosk on Copley Square Park, and at the Family Meeting Area near Copley Square after the race. B.A.A. 5K & INVITATIONAL MILE

New for 2014, the B.A.A. 5K will start and nish at historic Boston Common. The urban course will take 10,000 participants past many Boston landmarks, including the Boston Marathon nish line. Following the 5K, on Boylston Street at Copley Square Park, some of the worlds fastest runners will compete in the B.A.A. Invitational Mile. Also, middle school and scholastic runners from the eight cities and towns along the Marathon route will participate in 1,000 meter and one mile races, respectively.

PARKING IN BOSTON

Race Week On-street parking in Bostons Back Bay is extremely limited during race week. The B.A.A. preferred parking garages are the 100 Clarendon Street Garage and Prudential Center Garage. Located within walking distance from the Boston Marathon Finish Line and all the Back Bay and South End have to offer, these garages are your best bet for Boston Marathon parking. For directions, rates, and more information, please visit www.greaterbostonparking.com. Race Day Boston parking meters are not in effect on Patriots Day. Due to road closures and trafc congestion, spectators will be unable to drive near the nish area. Parking . 100 Clarendon Street Garage (see on map below) . FAMILY MEETING AREAS

Family Meeting Areas are located (1) on St. James Avenue and Stuart Street, between Berkeley Street and Clarendon Street, and (2) on Boston Common near the gear check tents at the Parkman Bandstand. Alphabetically-lettered and posted signs enable parties to meet at the sign with the rst letter of the athletes last name. AT&T Communication Centers enable athletes to make a complimentary call to family and friends. Family, friends, and athletes are urged to MAKE PLANS PRIOR TO RACE DAY on exactly where to reunite. You are urged to reunite in the Family Meeting Areas; if you choose to meet elsewhere in the Boylston Street area, be sure to check if that location will be accessible on race day. You will not be able to drive near the nish.

HYNES CONVENTION CENTER

Number Pick-up will take place at the John B. Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center located at 900 Boylston Street in Boston, MA. The best way to travel into Boston is by taking the MBTA. The MBTA Green lines B, C, and D stop at the Hynes Convention Center stop, just steps from the Expo. The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) and the B.A.A. are partnering to ensure that runners and spectators receive important public safety and emergency information in a timely manner. Massachusetts Alerts is a communication tool used by MEMA to disseminate critical information to smartphones. Massachusetts Alerts is powered by a free downloadable application that is available for Android and iPhones. During the Boston Marathon, MEMA will use Massachusetts Alerts to share important public safety information, including severe weather and emergency information, with runners and spectators. VIEWING THE BOSTON MARATHON VIA THE MBTA

The Boston Marathon course is accessible via both the MBTAs Commuter Rail (Framingham/Worcester Line) and Green Line subway. NOTE: Government Center Station (MBTA Green and Blue Lines) is closed due to construction. . . . Subway fare is $2.50, or $2.00 per ride if you purchase a CharlieCard. Commuter Rail fares vary from $2.00 to $11.00, depending on the distance traveled. Commuter Rail will operate on a regular weekday schedule. Make sure to note the return schedule, as Commuter Rail trains do not run as frequently as the subway.

he historic course starts on Main Street in the rural New England town of Hopkinton and follows Route 135 through Ashland, Framingham, Natick, and Wellesley to where Route 135 joins Route 16. It continues along Route 16 through Newton Lower Falls, turning right at the re station onto Commonwealth Avenue, which is Route 30. It follows Commonwealth through the Newton Hills, bearing right at the reservoir onto Chestnut Hill Avenue to Cleveland Circle. The route then turns left onto Beacon Street continuing through Kenmore Square, and under Massachusetts Avenue. The course turns right onto Hereford Street (NOTE: against normal trafc ow) then left onto Boylston Street, nishing near the John Hancock Tower in Copley Square.
