Introduction
Self Esteem Self-Esteem can best be defined as the extent to which a person values, approves of, appreciates, prizes or likes him or herself. In essence it is described as a favorable or unfavorable attitude toward the self. Healthy self-esteem encompasses self-acceptance, confidence, and positive personal beliefs. Studies show that at least 85% or more of the worlds population suffer from some degree of the lack of self-esteem. It is important to understand that this deficit does not apply to children only. Researchers are becoming increasingly aware that the educational outcomes of youth are facilitated (or inhibited) by a range of how parents transfer personal self-esteem. Parenting styles which are directly related to ones personal self concept and beliefs has also been found to predict child well-being in the following domainssocial competence, academic performance, psychological development and problem behavior. Research based upon parent interviews, child studies and observation indicate that healthy parents self-esteem is the key ingredient to a successful child. Positive Parenting Plus seeks to concentrate on building the adult self esteem. The workshop has three key segments: 1. The Tour of Self: understanding the impact of self values principles and beliefs on parenting style. Tools for Successful Parenting: embracing and enjoying the parenting journey by practicing personal self esteem building techniques.
