Main roles:
Reference lab for M. tuberculosis culture/DST Strengthening culture/DST network, capacity building, training and providing EQA (External Quality Assessment) across the network

Service provided

Routine diagnostic Culture (solid and liquid) DST (solid and liquid) for first- and second- line DST External Quality Assessment Training Surveys (Sentinel, National Prevalence, Drug Resistance)

BBLKs Achievements

Becoming the NRL for TB culture/DST. First quality assured lab in Indonesia for TB culture and first- and second-line DST.

First Indonesian lab to obtain 100% score for FL- and SL- DST EQA (not achieved by any lab as yet)

Lead laboratory for the Central and East Java DRS. Conducting in-house training program for TB culture, media preparation, and microscopy. Lead laboratory for the NPS. Organising the first EQA panel test in Indonesia (sent to BBLK Jakarta).

Main Strategy for BBLK Surabaya


Develop TB culture/DST lab base line data and mapping: number of culture/DST labs, distribution, performance etc Establish technical guidance, SOPs, equipment specifications, consumables & reagents, training materials Capacity building to expand TB culture/DST laboratories, strengthen networking and EQA Supervision and monitoring to improve and maintain culture/DST Lab performance including yearly certification Participate in EQA provide by SRL and to become active in the global TB Lab community

Conclusion
The new laboratory will enable BBLK Surabaya to contribute even more to the national TB control strategy and to assist in development, maintenance sustainability, and quality assurance of the TB laboratory network across Indonesia
