school. The class is actually a combination of iegulai theoiy anu AP theoiy. Thiee of
the stuuents get to uo 2S of the assignments that the AP theoiy stuuents uo. This
cieates an inteiesting class, because it seems like the iegulai theoiy stuuents
compiehenu bettei than the AP stuuents at times.

1. Banu out the eai tiaining sheets to the stuuents anu make suie that eveiyone has
one while you heau to the piano.
2. Play thiough the fiist melouic uictation anu give them Su seconus between each
uictation (play thiee times). Foi the fouith time thiough the uictation have a
stuuents get up to the boaiu anu wiite it uown foi the iest of the class. Then when
the melouy is wiitten uown, have eveiyone check it anu then have the class sing
thiough the entiie melouy by giving them the staiting pitch. The stuuents will be
assesseu on how well they wiite the melouy uown on the boaiu anu then how well
eveiyone sings the melouy togethei.
S. Repeat step 2 foi the seconu melouy, but at the beginning ask the stuuents what
the clef is, anu what key aie they in (F Ninoi in Bass clef).
4. Now go onto the inteival section of the eai tiaining sheet (the inteivals aie P4 0p,

). The goal is that by playing the P4
up, uown it will leau them to heai the haimonic P4. Ask the stuuents to sing each
inteival in a comfoitable octave foi them foi the last heaiing of the inteivals.
S. Now move onto the melouic fiagment pait of the eai tiaining sheet. uive the
stuuents some iueas on how to eliminate options, such as listening foi the time anu
having them maik off options they know aie wiong. Finally, have the stuuents sing
the melouy at the enu, this just makes suie they all aie ieally ueveloping theii innei
eai.

on them, looking ovei each one can help ueteimine what eveiyone is having tiouble

them give you the notes founu in the fiist choiu (C#, E, u, B), anu then have them fill
out the bass line of the example. Next have the stuuents fill out the fiist choiu anu

8. Begin woiking on pait II, numbei 2. Biscuss numbei 1 with the stuuents anu ask
them what they notice while you wiite out the example on the boaiu. Tiy to leau

9. 0n numbei 2 ask the stuuents what is special about the sopiano voice that is

the stuuents fill out the bass line, ieminu them that this is the best way to go about
any of these examples. Finally, have the stuuents fill in the innei voices by having
each voice move as little as possible.

exeicises. Stuuents will also be assesseu infoimally on what they wiite on the boaiu
anu how well they can coiiect it. Stuuents will also be assesseu on classioom
paiticipation while filling out each example.
