Tid Bits of Wisdom

From the Wonderful Word Publishers

APRIL 2014 VOL. 8 NO.4

Do you ever feel like your work is never done? It seems there is so much to do and so little time to do it. There will come a day, either in the rapture of the church, or in death when God will say about us, It is finished! When our opportunity is over, I wonder if our responsibilities will be finished. Will we have done what God called us to do? Our Lord Jesus Christ finished His work on earth!!! He did all He came to do. Read carefully these words that Jesus spoke to the Father before the cross.
John 17:1-4 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. KJV

(Taken from Spurgeons daily devotional book Morning & Evening. A good book for daily spiritual feeding)
"Lift them up for ever." Psalm 28:9 God's people need lifting up. They are very heavy by nature. They have no wings, or, if they have, they are like the dove of old which lay among the pots; and they need divine grace to make them mount on wings covered with silver, and with feathers of yellow gold. By nature sparks fly upward, but the sinful souls of men fall downward. O Lord, "lift them up for ever!" David himself said, "Unto Thee, O God, do I lift up my soul," and he here feels the necessity that other men's souls should be lifted up as well as his own. When you ask this blessing for yourself, forget not to seek it for others also. There are three ways in which God's people require to be lifted up. They require to be elevated in character. Lift them up, O Lord; do not suffer Thy people to be like the world's people! The world lieth in the wicked one; lift them out of it! The world's people are looking after silver and gold, seeking their own pleasures, and the gratification of their lusts; but, Lord, lift Thy people up above all this; keep them from being muck-rakers, as John Bunyan calls the man who was always scraping after gold! Set thou their hearts upon their risen Lord and the heavenly heritage!

Spurgeons Morning & Evening

What did Jesus do for us? He gave us eternal life and caused us to know the only true God and Jesus Christ. Jesus glorified the Father and finished what the Father told Him to do. John chapter 17 is the prayer Jesus prayed for His disciples and for us before going to the cross. If you want to know what Jesus thinks of you, study that chapter. He ended His prayer this way,
John 17:25-26 O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me. And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them. KJV

(Continued from page 1) IT IS FINISHED!

Jesus made us, the believers, apart of the love relationship between the Father and the Son. To know God is to know love! There is no excuse for us to live outside of love! When we pull away from God, we pull away from that love relationship that is with the Godhead. Love is our inheritance and we need to take advantage of what we have been given. Jesus paid a great price to bring us into this relationship. When we pull away from God, all is vain, for without love we are nothing! When Jesus resurrected from the grave, He went to the disciples and this is what He said.
John 20:21-23 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as

causes the plant to stand up straight. We must water our lives often to show the beauty of what God is doing in us. I am so thankful that we do not serve an idol. The one I serve is alive and has all power. With His power in my life I can one day say, as He did, It is finished! If I live through His power I can hear my God say, Well done, thy good and faithful servant. I live this life by Faith. My faith is in the work of the Lamb, the Son of man, the Lord Jesus Christ. Because of who He is and what He has promised me, I can by faith, do the work He has called me to do. I live with Hope. My hope is in the promises of God. I believe that God will reward all my efforts to follow Him. I believe His promises, therefore I have hope. One pastor told me he didnt have patience. He said that was one thing he lacked. He was almost bragging about it. I said, It must be horrible to live without hope. He said, I have hope. I said, What you hope for you wait for!!! Patience is the evidence that our hope is in His Word. I live by Charity. I have committed my life to acting in and through love to my fellow brethren, so I can show the life and spirit of the Lord Jesus Christ. I live with Faith, Hope and Charity. The greatest being Charity. These three actions will cause me to be able to say, as Jesus did, If is finished. Thank you Lord Jesus for finishing the work the Father gave you to do. Thank you for drinking the cup the Father gave you to drink and help us to drink the cup you have placed in our hands to drink so we can say with you, IT IS FINISHED. We are watching, waiting and praying for your return. Lord Jesus, Come Quickly.

my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained. KJV

There are not a lot of questions as to why God leaves us here after salvation. We are sent to do the work of taking the gospel to the lost world. The end of this world began when Jesus finished His work on the cross and then rose to live forever. It has been over 2,000 years since Jesus died. Jesus said, Today is the day of salvation. This is the day of grace! This is the time that Jesus is willing and ready to show grace to the sinners. When this day of grace ends, then comes the judgment. There isnt much time left to bring our loved ones to Christ. This is not something that we should take lightly or put off until tomorrow. Jesus paid the price, surely we can deliver the gift. This is the month that we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Do we live a resurrected life? Does the world see a living Savior in our lives? Maybe you have been going through correction at the hands of God. These verses should help you.
Heb 12:11-13 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby. Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed. KJV

Let the water of the Word of God pour over your soul and bring life to your roots! Have you ever seen a plant that needed watering? Water always

(Written by Jeri Lynn Wilkerson, wife of Matt Wilkerson, Assistant Pastor of the Galilean Baptist Church) Our greatest failure is the failure to learn from our failures. Our greatest failure in learning is the failure to live what we have learned. Our greatest failure in living what we have learned is the failure to discipline ourselves to continue living what we have learned.

years, even decades, before it finally comes up to the surface or is unearthed by a particular situation. And when that happens, it can often be damaging, and even deadly, for relationships between friends and family. So, if you have any unearthed bitterness in your heart, be sure you deal with it by forgiving the person it concerns and even talking with them about it. Dont let buried feelings of contempt harm your relationships with friends and family because those relationships are some of Gods greatest gifts! Pray and ask God to reveal to you any unearthed bitterness, no matter how old, you might have in your heart toward another person. If you find you do carry buried resentment, forgive that person and let them know youve let it go. - Senior Living Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Philemon 1:3

The life lived truly like Christ (The Christian Life) requires dedicated effort and regular communication just as any successful relationship does. The Christian Life is just that: a life - not a list.

A list of dos and donts involves merely our own effort and has no need of communication with the Holy Spirit. A life involves flow of blood, water and air. We are given Life through the atoning blood of Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit then lives in us. We decide whether or not to make the effort to free the Holy Spirit to blow through us (control us). The only way we can daily [consistently] give Him the control is to draw out [our effort] the Water of the Word (read our Bibles) and communicate (talk/pray) with our Creator and Savior. Only then, will we have the power to truly live like Christ [The Christian Life]. He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God.- Micah 6:8

Moreover, believers need to be prospered in conflict. In the battle, if they seem to fall, O Lord, be pleased to give them the victory. If the foot of the foe be upon their necks for a moment, help them to grasp the sword of the Spirit, and eventually to win the battle. Lord, lift up Thy children's spirits in the day of conflict; let them not sit in the dust, mourning for ever. Suffer not the adversary to vex them sore, and make them fret; but if they have been, like Hannah, persecuted, let them sing of the mercy of a delivering God. We may also ask our Lord to lift them up at the last! Lift them up by taking them home, lift their bodies from the tomb, and raise their souls to Thine eternal kingdom in glory.

Underneath the ground of Belgiums Flanders Field, one of the deadliest battlefields of World War I, a very dangerous and deadly secret lies. Its so deadly, in fact, that its caused a very big problem for the Belgian government. You see, all across this field, artillery shells are surfacing more than 90 years after they were fired. Still unexploded, many are still very capable of killing. Some are unearthed by farmers and construction workers, while others simply work their way up through the soil. Dozens of full-time workers cannot keep up with them. And even worse, thousands of these projectiles contain poisonous gas. Its one thing to recognize something that can cause immense damage when its obvious. Im sure you didnt have to tell the soldiers fighting in World War I to avoid those artillery shells at all costs! However, when things such as these lie dormant for so long, they become all the more precarious because they are an unseen danger. In much the same way, many Christians today hold on to bitterness for

By Gloria Brewster

Only one of these people end up coming to me for counsel. Maybe others get counsel somewhere else, but usually I see only one. My heart thinks of all who are involved in the destruction. I wish I did not know of all the hurts that I have seen through the years of my life. I have seen many great men and women fall into sin and I have never enjoyed watching their destruction. Mine and Bro. Jerrys ministry is restoration, and because of this we have heard and seen much. I am pronged to head straight for the one who committed the sin, because they are the one usually thrown aside and left to themselves. But having said that, the one effected by the sin has much to bear with all the talk and gossip that goes around. Those watching, often end up killing the wounded by their lack of mercy and their holier than thou attitude. When we sin, we stir the waters all around us. Its like a feather pillow that opens and blows in the wind. You can never find all the feathers!!! When God said the wages of sin is death, HE MEANT IT! Lets look at the sinner.
Rom 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; KJV

I am writing this article with a full heart of compassion. Because I do a lot of counseling, I am surrounded by people who have sinned, or been sinned against, and they are dealing with the death that those actions brought upon their lives. The Bible clearly states,
Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. KJV

Sometimes I think we read this, but we really dont believe it! Because, after we have sinned, we are so surprised at the destruction that all of a sudden surrounds our lives. We never sin without something in our lives dying. There are three kinds of people effected by our sins, besides ourselves.

First is God. Our sin comes between us and the fellowship of God. It doesnt change who God is, but it sure does change who we are. Adam and Eve enjoyed walking with God in the garden before they disobeyed Him, but hid from Him afterwards. There had to be a reckoning before they could return to the fellowship they had enjoyed. The second is those affected by our sin. Somehow we always bring others into our sin. Every time we break one of the ten commandments we do wrong to someone elses life. If you dishonor your parents, you bring shame and hurt upon their lives. If you steal from a neighbor, they suffer loss from your action. If you have a sexual sin with someone else, you bring that persons body into your act. It is impossible to sin in action without effecting someone else. Thirdly, those affected by our sin are the great cloud of witnesses that are watching our lives and attempting to discern how to respond to us and our sin.
Heb 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, KJV

We must never forget that we all are sinners! There are times that we all fall short of the glory of God and bring shame to His name. We are to love our neighbor as ourselves. We need to forgive as we want to be forgiven, BUT we are NEVER to ignore sin for what it is. Call it by its proper name and separate the sinner from the sin. We have compassion on the sinner in the world and kill the sinner in the church, do we not? Lets face it, we dont know how to hate sin and love the sinner at the same time. Most people in the church who end up in divorce usually end up out of church. Why do

(Continued on page 7)

Which home would you choose? The house on the right is mine and Bro. Jerrys house. I chose our house to compare to the hut because it would be considered a humble abode, just as the hut would be to their people. In Gods sight, what is the difference in the people who live in these two homes? NO DIFFERENCE! They are both Gods creations. They are equal in the sight of God concerning their rights. The Lord Jesus Christ died for both families. They were both created to bring pleasure to God. They were both created with a purpose and a plan for their lives. They will both stand before God one day and give an account for what they did with His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Our son sent this picture to us from Uganda Africa. This is where his mission work takes place. I cannot tell you the thoughts that went through my heart when I thought about where I live and where this person lives. The hut could have been mine or your home! Why were we born in America, where all the material blessings abound? Why was this family born in Africa, where they search for their daily needs? Neither of us can answer that question, except that this was the Will of God for our lives. Those who live in the hut face many difficulties. We also face many difficulties, but our difficulties are different. Those who live in the hut have times of laughter and times of crying. We have times of laughter and we have times of crying. If both of us seek God with our whole hearts and live a life that is pleasing to our God, then we both enjoy the same Spirit and the same Joys and the same fellowship. Because in Christ, we are not different!!! So much of what we have is not necessary in order to be happy. We have electricity. We have in door bath rooms. We have air conditioning. We have washing machines. We have microwaves. We have cook stoves. We have beautiful sets of dishes. We have carpet or nice wood floors. We have cars. We have freezers and refrigerators. We have telephones. We have Televisions and computers. Shall I go on? While we wrap ourselves in luxuries, do we remember that everyone does not have these material blessings. Bro. Jerry and I live in a very humble house that was built in 1959. While we do not live in a mansion, we still have all the luxuries mentioned above. How many of your luxuries would you share with someone else? What would we give to make someone elses life better? True, the gospel is the greatest need we all have, but sharing our blessings with others opens the door to telling them about our loving Savior. Our son talked about a man in this village who, when given the gospel, fell to his knees and accepted Christ as his savior. We can do no better than to take eternal life to Gods people. Hearing this thrills our souls, but when was the last time we gave of ourself or our goods, without being asked to do so. Do we only respond when asked? Look around you and ask God if He wants anything you have. If so, will you surrender it for the work of God? Many years ago, Jerry and I lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico. On Sunday morning, about 5:00 am we would drive to the Indian reservation to minister to the Navajo Indians. We would leave the road and drive over the land and behind mountains to their Hogans (round thatched mud houses). Those small Hogans were clean as a pin. They had dirt floors, which the mother swept often. The broom outside of the hut in the picture above reminded me of their brooms. There would be a weaving loom in the hut and the women would weave the most beautiful rugs and blankets. We had sheep sit in our laps while we had services. They served us corn, cooked in the ground with Indian flat bread. It is some of the sweetest memories I posses. Lets do not sit with our blessings and forget about those who are struggling. Tomorrow, it might be turned around. We are not promised to live in luxury. It is a gift and God gave it to us to share with others. What would God have you do?

This month our hearts and minds are on the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is also the month we begin to see things sprout out of the ground. This is the season when everything comes alive. The animals come out of hibernation. This is the best time of the year to work because it is not to hot or to cold! Lets be careful not to let the pleasant days get away from us without taken advantage of them. Last month the Lord blessed the work with a few extra gifts. It was very encouraging. This paper goes into 1700 different homes each month. If two people should read the paper in each home that would be 3400 people each month to be touched with this little paper. We believe it is a worthy work and your gifts make it possible. We have testimonies of homes staying together because of the articles and people reading just at the time they are going through a difficult time and the article being just what they needed. Many tell us they look for the paper each month as a feeding and refreshing that encourages them to keep on keeping on. God has not opened the door for us to work at increasing the mailing but we hope someday to really work at getting it into more homes. Dont forget that the paper is free and if you know someone who would like to receive it just mail us the address. Lord, you know better than I myself know that I am growing older and will some day be old. Keep me from being talkative and particularly from the fatal habit of thinking that I must say something on every subject and on every occasion. Release me from craving to straighten out everybodys affairs. Make me thoughtful but not moody; helpful but not bossy. With my vast store of wisdom, it seems a pity not to use it all, but you know, Lord, that I want a few friends at the end. Keep my mind from the recital of endless details - give me wings to come to the point. I ask for grace enough to listen to the tales of others pain. But seal my lips on my own aches and pains - they are increasing, and my love of rehearsing them is becoming sweeter as the years go by. . . I dare not ask for improved memory but for a growing humility and a lessening cocksureness when my memory seems to clash with the memories of others. Teach me the glorious lesson that occasionally it is possible that I may be mistaken . . . Give me the ability to see good things in unexpected places, and talents in unexpected people. And give me, O Lord, the grace to tell them so.

you think this happens? In a divorce there is usually a victim. Sometimes it is both who want the divorce, but as a rule it is one who turns their hard heart against their mate and their vows. More than likely they both are guilty of failing in their responsibilities in the home, but what do we do for those whose lives just fell apart? The church has not done a good job of reaching out to the broken. We have either turned our backs on them, because of the sin, or we have treated them as if nothing happened and allowed them full fellowship without dealing with their brokenness. We have not known how to balance judgment and mercy and because of that, many have fallen by the wayside. Some sins we tolerate and others we wash our hands of. God hates all sin and loves all sinners. If they have hurt someone else, we forgive them, but it they hurt us, it is unforgiveable! We dont treat all sinners alike. What about the one who was taken into the dilemma and was not guilty of wrong? Just being involved brings a blot on them that they did not ask for. What about the woman who was rapped. Those who know her, will always remember her as a rapped victim. Did she ask for it by the way she was dressed or did she ask for it by being unwise and out at night without protection? More than likely you dont know the answer to those questions. Why do we think them? Because many women have done that and we associate those questions with rape. The rape victim may not have done anything to deserve the rape, but she will have to deal with the fact that many will ask themselves these questions and more. Is that fair? NO! The truth is, life is not fair. Victims cannot always prove they are victims, but God will make a way of escape. Some things we are called to bear that make no sense to us at all, but God knows what He is doing and has said very clearly that, Rom 8:28, And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Some things we are to conquer and some things we are to endure. What about that great cloud of witnesses? They are the ones I worry about. They can make or break a life by the way they respond. Most sinners end up being hurt by some ones response to their sin, and they end up so angry at the offender, that they justify what they did against what the offender did, and they never make right their wrong. My mothers family use to raise chickens. She said if one of the chickens had a sore on them, the other chickens would pick at that sore until they killed the chicken. Is that not what we do so often in the body of Christ? Christ doesnt want any of us to fail. He wants us to aid one another through this tough world and the sin that so easily besets us. He wants us to live through His love. Go read I Corinthians 13 and ask yourself if you are prong to respond in love or to respond in your flesh! Dont miss read what I am saying. I am not saying to accept sin in the body of Christ. We are to hate evil! I fear we have loss the ability to even discern what is sin and what is not. It is no longer a shame for a woman to have a child out of wedlock or to live with a man before marriage. We are accepting this as a NEW way of life. It is against the Word of God. No one should feel comfortable in your presence if they are living in sin. They should feel loved, but never comfortable.

Bro. Jerry and I told our children that they would always be welcome at home, but they would never be allowed to bring their sin into our home. Sure, the results of their sin will come home with them, but never allow them to be comfortable in sin at home. I have not lived a perfect life and I dont know about you, but I am so thankful for a God of mercy and forgiveness. When I have confessed my sin and made right my wrong, I have always been able to look back on it and rejoice because of the lessons (worked for good) God taught me through it. We dont have to sin to grow, but I am thankful that my failure can be turned to blessing. Are you desiring to serve the Lord, by seeking the lost and serving the body of Christ? Has someone around your life falling into sin lately? How did you respond. Did you fall on your knees in prayer for their lives? Did you spread words about the sinner that would do damage to their lives? Did you show mercy or contempt? Did you respond to them the way you would want them to respond to you? If not, then do something to teach yourself how to serve as Christ would serve. If you are giving yourself to serve Christ, then be affective by doing it through love the way Christ would.

We are not going to slack up, let up, or shut up, till we are taken up. To pastors who would borrow from his sermons: If what I preach fits your gun, then shoot it. But use your own powder. Give God the chance to provide before you buy. 7

Alas! And Did My Savior Bleed? Alas! and did my Savior bleed And did my Sovereign die? Would He devote that sacred head For sinners such as I? Was it for crimes that I had done He groaned upon the tree? Amazing pity! grace unknown! And love beyond degree! Well might the sun in darkness hide And shut his glories in, When Christ, the mighty Maker died, For man the creature's sin. Thus might I hide my blushing face While His dear cross appears, Dissolve my heart in thankfulness, And melt my eyes to tears. But drops of grief can ne'er repay The debt of love I owe: Here, Lord, I give my self away 'Tis all that I can do.

John 10:17-18
Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father. KJV
