2. As a class read p. 74-79, stopping periodically to ask questions as indicated in the TE margins. 3. Students will be encouraged to take notes on their Reading Skill worksheet (optional) and their Study Guide while we read as a class. They can continue filling it out when the reading is finished. 4. Ask the questions listed in the margins of the TE as a continual check for understanding. (after p.75) Are there hills, or is it flat where we live? Is there a lake, river, or an ocean nearby? (review question #1 p.75) Why do you think people are more likely to farm in valleys than in mountains? (TE 75) What word do we use when we talk about the different shape of land on the earth? (TE 75) How is a valley often formed? (TE 76) How are islands and peninsulas alike? (review question #2 p.77) What is one landform in your state?

H. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding? Complete the Lesson Review (p. 79): 1. Vocabulary Write one or two sentences that tell what you know about landforms. 2. Main Idea What are some kinds of land and water on the earth? Activity: Draw a picture of how people use land and water in your community. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. Students must Identify how people shape the physical environment Drawing a picture of this will show if the student understands how people use their physical environment. I. Closure: Quick discussion over the two questions in the Review/Assess section of TE 79.

J. Reflection: 1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach? I think teaching students about what is defined as a body of water will be easy for me to teach because it is a basic concept most second graders should be able to grasp pretty easily. 2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach?

The most challenging part for myself to teach is the difference between a peninsula and an island because I think students could get the two confused very easily. 3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? As an extension of the lesson I would use the Extend Lesson 3 (p. 88-91) about a family who lives in a cold climate and needs a weather report to help them plan. 4. What can you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? I would use the Reteach Minilesson worksheet on TE 79 to have students complete the chart by entering the page numbers where they learned about the concepts listed on the worksheet. 5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change? There is nothing I would change, I think it is a basic landforms and water. 6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part? The hardest part for me was connecting the standards with the lesson. It was difficult for me to find the best fit.
