GENERAL DATA

Aplication Module for parallel operation MPR-5 can be used in combination with voltage regulator RUN 53 or with regulators type KR. It is a common assembly for statics, and regulation of voltage drop is carried out by moving the slipper on the potentiometer R1. The module enables division of reactive load between generators running in parallel. Voltage drop can be adjusted up to 5% of rated voltage.

Mode of operation Module for parallel operation is connected to the current transformer (terminals CT1 and CT2). The secondary current is in the range within 0,6 to 1 A at rated load. Voltage drop on the

resistor R1 depends upon the generator phase current. The voltage is led to the primary winding of the the transformer T1, while the secondary winding of the transformer is connected in series with generator measuring voltage (generator measuring voltage represents an input data for the voltage regulator). Therefore, it results that the input voltage on the voltage regulator is the vector sum of the generator measuring voltage and voltage drop on the resistor R1 of the module for parallel operation. Voltage drop on resistor R1 is considerable less compared to the generator voltage.

With ohmic load voltage drop on the resistor, R1 precedes the generator voltage for 90, and thus the vector sum of both voltage is almost equal to the basic voltage. The generator voltage remains almost unchanged. With inductive load the voltage on the resistor R1 is in phase with line voltage, so the vector sum of the voltage is bigger. It causes the voltage regulator to decrease the amount of the generator line voltage. With capacitive load the voltage on resistor R1 is in counter phase with the line voltage, thus decreased resultant voltage leads to increase of generator voltage. When two generators are running in parallel, and the excitation current of one of them exceeds, then between the generators flows the equalizing current. This is manifested with generators, with increased excitation current, as the inductive loading and with other as the capacitative loading. The assembly for parallel operation decreases the generator excitation with inductive loading and thus decreases the equalizing current between the generators. The assembly for parallel operation enables the generators in parallel operation to divide proportionally the reactive loading. The connection in accordance with Fig. 3. enables two or more generators to divide the inductive loading without any decrease of the generator voltage. In this series circuits the voltages are nulled when the line currents are equal in size and phase, and there is no decrease of generator voltage. Such connection is used only when the voltage regulators are identical. Generators of different nominal powers can be connected in accordance with the Fig. 3. only when secondaries of the current transformers are chosen so that the current at rated loading of each generators are approximately equal.

Adjustment procedure:
Put the slipper on potentiometer R1 into the position of the highest resistance (end right - hand position) Put the jumper on CT1 and CT2 inputs When the generator is in the nominal speed and voltage, it should be loaded inductively Remove jumper from CT1 and CT2 inputs and write down the generator voltage The voltage should be near 5% of the nominal voltage (depending upon loading). If the voltage increases, and all connections are in proper condition, it is necessary to substitute the terminals polarity on the current transformer.
