State Road 45/46 Bypass Apt. 33 Bloomington In 47408 April 5, 2014 OSU Athletic Training Internship Coordinator Athletic Training Division The Ohio State University th 453 W. 10 Avenue Columbus OH 43210-2205 Dear Internship Coordinator, I am applying for the Athletic Training internship opening available at The Ohio State University. I meet many of the position requirements including a Bachelors degree from a CAATE Accredited Program, eligibility for NATABOC, ability to obtain a license to practice Athletic Training in the state of Ohio, and Professional Rescuer/CPR and AED certified (equivalent to Basic Cardiac Life Support). The opportunity available at The Ohio State University is a great chance for me to share and further my Athletic Training knowledge while growing as a professional in this field. Ive had exposure to many of the available internship positions including men and womens track and field, field hockey, and softball . I have particular interest in the field hockey/mens gymnastics position. Both settings are unique and include experience with both upper and lower extremity issues. With that said, I would like to formally apply for the field hockey/mens gymnastics internship position. Staying true to my personal mission statement, I will protect and support the safety, health and well-being of each and every student-athlete at my clinical assignment. I will work to provide and coordinate a comprehensive array of professional healthcare services. I will work closely with the coaching staff as they develop their plans for athletic competition. Lastly, I will advocate for my student-athletes and the athletic program I serve. As a veteran of the United States military, I have been trained to react and overcome. The military has taught discipline, professionalism, and respect, values I find very important to the athletic training profession. The military brings a lot of highly stressful activities and how you react to those certain situations can tell you a lot about yourself. After training in those highly stressful situations, I feel I can confidently react to adversity, make the best of any situation, and make good decisions. Being able to apply these skills in the athletic training environment has allowed me to manage on the field injuries and emergencies properly. I hope to bring this ability to handle such situations to The Ohio State University. My undergraduate work in athletic training at Indiana University has taught me many things about myself. It has shown me that I can effectively manage my time as I balanced a full-time student status, with approximately 25 hours of clinical work per week and approximately 25 hours per week at my part-time job. Learning the importance of communication has allowed me to grow as a professional and a leader who understands that the workplace needs teamwork and structure. Additionally, I embraced every opportunity to teach and promote the profession of athletic training to colleagues, peers, and through the Indiana University Athletic Training Buddy Program in which I was paired with a younger prospective athletic training student. I had the opportunity to mentor, teach, guide, and encourage the younger student throughout their first clinical experience. This teaching experience paired with my understanding of time management, communication, and teamwork skills would allow me to contribute greatly to Ohio States already astounding Sports Medicine team. My Athletic Training background and my military background have taught me values to live by each and every day. Loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage are all values I pride myself on. I have found how to apply these values in the workplace which provide for great team cohesion and a successful organization. I hope to share these values with the athletic training team at The Ohio State University. Thank You for your consideration as I apply for this position. Feel free to contact me any weekday after 2:00 p.m. at (260) 402-3597 or by email at cojorich@indiana.edu. I look forward to hearing from you and thank you again. Best regards,

Corey Richards Enclosure
