Lesson Plan Format 4-14-14

Objective/Purpose:
Given sight words, the students will spell the word out loud, make it with letter tiles, and then spell it in the sand.

Materials:
White Board Marker Letter Tiles Sand for writing Dry Erase marker Pencil

Daily Review:
Talk about sight words, spell out loud, spell with tiles, and then write them in the sand.

Presentation:
I will say a sight word out loud and spell it out loud. Then I will have the students repeat me. For example: This is the word the, are is spelled t-h-e, how do you spell are? (t-h-e), Teagan spell are again (t-h-e), Sebastian spell are for me (t-he). Great!

Guided Practice
Then I will give each student a set of the letters to spell the word we are working on. For example, I will hand them both an t, h and e. I will mix them up and have them put them in the correct order. Now use the letter tiles to spell the word are, now spell it to me t-h-e, good! Mix them up again, now spell it one more time for me. Teagan how do you spell are? t-h-e, Perfect! Sebastian how do you spell the? t-h-e Great job, guys!

Independent Practice
(Now I will give you sand to spell you word. But to clear your sand you just shake it lightly on the table, dont shake it about your head because if you get sand everywhere you lose the sand.) In your sand, spell the word are. Teagan how do you spell the? Sebastian how do you spell the? Good job! Now lets set our sand aside and move onto another word.

**Continue this process with the words: and, to, were, small, we, there**

Formative Evaluation:

I will use the work that they are completing to see if they understand the sight words they are writing.

Critique: Reflection on the lesson - follows instruction.

Will you reteach? o These words will be retaught. They are quarterly sight word goals so they will continued to be taught and retaught all quarter. How? o We will continue to use a variety of ways to have them spell these sight words. Some of those ways include: spell in sand, spell with letters, write on white board, include them in a sentence, and spelling outloud to a friend. Move to next objective? o They will stay on this objective of mastering these sight words. What went well? o The students did a great job transitioning to and from all of the ways that were spelling the words. They were listening well and they seemed to stay very engaged in all of the different ways that they were spelling the words. What should be revised/discarded and why? o I think that I would have them say the word in a sentence next time that I do these words with them. Did students meet the goals and objectives of the lesson? o Yes, the objective was met. What is your next step or objective?
o To continue to work on the words and then move onto the fourth quarter words.
