Debates Notes Opening Statement: First off I'd like to state that our stance is pro-regulation not antiimmigration.

We believe immigration is a good thing. As a matter of fact, my Grandma, father, aunt and some uncles are all legal immigrants straight from El Salvador (a little country in Central America). And they have contributed to our economy and our culture. Without them coming to America, I would not be here today. Just as many of you would not be here today if it were not for the immigration of your parents. However, overpopulation in the United States is causing more bad than good over the past few years. Everyone has the basic rights to be here, but think about it. Only so many people can live in a house with limited resources. Why should we all share one house, when there are plenty of other houses with resources around the neighborhood? Melting Pot- According to the U.S. Census with the rate of immigration we have, the U.S. population will grow to approximately 420 million by the year 2050. Whereas the current United States population is approximately 316,668,567 (World Factbook). The great melting pot is turning into divided countries within our nation. However, while we are primarily concerned with overpopulation, immigration is not only affecting the United States. Emigration is also a major problem with the current immigration today. A lot of the intelligent and hard-working immigrants leave their country and come here for a better life and they end up abandoning their people and their country. This leaves their country- which could have had the great leaders of tomorrow to pull their country out of trouble- in poverty as it was. An example of this is Mexico. Its current population below poverty line is 51.3% (World Factbook). More than half of the country is living in poverty. It is evident that if we limit immigration, those willing to work hard can benefit their own country rather than helping themselves. Job Opportunities- Many people believe that the more people we have here, the better. This is so extremely dangerous. Our opponents believe that immigrants taking out entry level jobs is a good thing. However this is not always ideal. For instance, consider all of the citizens that are unemployed right now that are in need of money and would be willing to get an entry level job just for the sake of supporting themselves/ their family. How are they going to take these jobs in their time of need when we are pushing them all away? Not only is it hard for adults to find jobs, but it is also a challenge for teenagers to find entry level jobs to gain work experience- since these jobs are being given away. With unemployment at approximately 7.0-6.9%(Bureau of Labor Statistics), this cycle is not beneficial to anyone. The citizens of America are in constant competition with immigrants in order to find a job they need. It is unconstitutional that a native should be given the left-overs of what the government doesnt give the immigrants.
