Step by Step guide to setup Active Directory on Windows Server 2008

Requirement: Minimum: Single processor with 1.4 GHz (x64 processor) or 1.3GHz (Du l !ore) Minimum: "1# M$ %&M Minimum: 3# G$ or gre ter

The first step is to assign a ip to the server that you going to deploy the AD. Its nessary to install it as DNS server too. So its better to have fixed ip it doesn t mean you !annot install AD "ithout fixed ip address but it "ill solve lot of issues if you used fixed ip.

In here the server ip is #$.$.$.#%. Sin!e "e going to ma&e it as DNS server too you should use the same ip as the preferred DNS server.

Next step is to install the A!tive dire!tory roles. 'nli&ely the older version of "indo"s servers (i!rosoft highly re!ommend to use server manager option to install roles before you run d!promo.

)li!& on start menu and sele!t the Server (anager

Sele!t the roles from the right hand panel and !li!& on add roles option.

*rom the roles list sele!t the +A!tive Dire!tory Domain Servi!es+ role and )li!& +Next+

Revie" the !onfirmation and !li!& on +Next+

Revie" the installation !onfirmation and !li!& on +Next+

It "ill ta&e fe" minutes to !omplete and "hen its done you "ill get this !onfirmation. And then !li!& on +)lose+

After that you "ill need to do a reboot.

After reboot please open up the +server (anager+ again. And then !li!& on +Roles+ there you "ill see the +A!tive Dire!tory Domain Servi!es+ is su!!essfully installed in there. !li!& on it then you "ill get a "indo" li&e belo".

No" "e have to provide the name for our domain !ontroller. It must be */DN. In our !ase I used rebeladmin.!om as the domain. ,lease !li!& +Next+ after it.

In this "indo" it "ill as& to sele!t forest fun!tion level. If you going to add server 0$$1 domain !ontroller to your forest later don t sele!t the fun!tion level as server 0$$2. If you going to use full features of 0$$2 Ad you must sele!t forest fun!tion level as server 0$$2. In my !ase I used server 0$$2. )li!& on +Next+ after the sele!t.

In next "indo" sin!e it s the first D) "e should ma&e it as DNS server too. 3eave the default sele!tion and !li!& on +Next+

If the "i.ard !annot !reate a delegation for the DNS server4 it displays a message to indi!ate that you !an !reate the delegation manually. To !ontinue4 !li!& +5es+

In next "indo" it "ill sho" up the database lo!ation. It its going to be bigger AD its good if you !an &eep NTDS database in different partition. )li!& on +Next+ after !hanges.

In next "indo" its as&ing to define a restore mode pass"ord. Its more important if you had to do a restore from ba!&up in a server !rash. )li!& on +Next+ after filling it.

Then it "ill start the installation of the AD. It "ill ta&e some time to !omplete. After !omplete of the installation perform a server reboot.
