Executive Summary
For many decades in our country, the dynamic interplay of lack of awareness, ignorance, apathy, callousness has contributed significantly to environmental degradation. As the repercussions of our past activities become apparent on todays environment, there is growing public and judicial pressure on the industry to actively maintain, if not improve, environment quality. Our endeavor is to promote the concept of sustainable livelihood by focusing on both, environment and income generation by putting up plants of waste paper recycling . Our waste paper recycling plant offers a sustainable solution to the growing environmental problem by adopting paper recycling processes using which even a common man can turn waste paper and cotton rags into paper. Our approach is neither a model that aims to incorporate all the key elements of people's livelihoods and environment conservation, nor a universal solution. Rather, it is a means of stimulating thought and analysis so that it could be adapted and elaborated depending on the situation..
Introduction
The Sustainable Livelihood Generation is an initiative to address the problem of spiraling poverty as well as environmental degradation simultaneously. The approach focuses on improving local peoples well being and at the same time ensuring the conservation of the environment. A sustainable livelihood is concerned with both environmental influences on human life and human influences on the environment. On the one hand, the surroundings of a community should not harm its members and should provide for all their necessities of life. On the other, local communities and its people should be caretakers and not destroyers of the planet and its ecosystems. The Sustainable Livelihood framework places people, particularly underprivileged youth and poor people, at the centre of a web of inter-related influences that affect how these people create a livelihood for themselves and their households. The approach identifies the main constraints and opportunities faced by these people. To achieve this, the approach focuses on two main areas that are also interlinked, Sustainable Natural Resources Management which involves
conservation of resources, and Income Generation which involves developing and promoting small scale and environment friendly micro- enterprises including waste paper recycling. The sustainable livelihood generation is concerned with local aspects of environmental sustainability and community well being.
Process
The raw material is sorted manually to remove foreign material and dust and then sent to chopper. The chopped pieces are then subjected to beating where the raw material is pulped in water with the help of machine. A small amount of pulp is poured evenly into a mould and the excess water is mechanically drained out from it using a hydraulic press/screw press. The sheets of paper are dried by hanging in the open. Small dirt particles are removed mechanically with the help of a sharp instrument. The cleaned sheet can be coated with starch to further improve the physical property of the paper. In this process the sheets are placed between metallic sheets and passed between rollers of a calendaring machine. This process smoothens the paper and also improves its gloss.
The handmade paper obtained can be used for making various articles such as greeting cards, carry bags, letterheads, visiting cards etc. The market for handmade paper and handmade paper products is increasing rapidly. At present it is being promoted as a replacement for plastic bags and is rapidly gaining in importance. Many shops and stores have slowly started shifting to paper packages for their products keeping customer demand in view and for enhancing their environmental image. Apart from the products mentioned above
innovative paper crafts are also popular in the market and are regarded as premium products.

Employment Generation
The Waste Paper Recycling Plant will generate skilled employment as the plant will employ staff (initially 2) after training them in the handmade paper manufacturing process. In the longer run this will also enhance their livelihood opportunity. It will also help to earn revenues through the sale of handmade paper and products made out of it.
