Achievements of Ancient Civilizations The ancient civilizations of the world developed many influential advancements and innovations.

Many of these contributions can still be seen in todays society. They are the basis of humankind. Ancient Egypt !abylonia and the "ndus #iver $alley civilization made many accomplishments that had lasting effects on mankind. Ancient Egypt is one of these great civilizations that had many achievements during its time. %ne of the most practical achievements they accomplished that is still used today was irrigation. &arming could not have been nearly as successful without it. "rrigation is a system in which they channeled the water from the 'ile #iver using canals to the fields ()oc *+. Another innovation was their advancements in medicine. Ancient Egypt was the most advanced civilization in the field of medicine at the time. They developed remedies and surgeries for many types of diseases and conditions. An e,ample of this would be healing broken bones and being able to cure tape worm. &inally the most well-known accomplishment of Ancient Egypt was the .yramids. .yramids were huge structures that they built of blocks of stone for the .haraohs resting place ()oc /+. Although Ancient Egypt was very advanced !abylonia also made many advancement. !abylonia is most known for its law system. The law system was called the Code of 0ammurabi which was the earliest written set of laws. The code supported the eye for an eye concept which is demonstrated in this law1 if a man destroys the eye of another man they shall destroy his eye. This code of laws was known to be a model for other civilizations that came after !abylonia. "n fact some of the ideology of the code is still seen in some of todays governments. &or e,ample in America you can appeal to a higher court if you do not think the 2udges ruling is right 2ust as people of !abylonia could ()oc 3+. As !abylonia had

advancements in the political aspects the "ndus #iver $alley Civilization had other types of accomplishments. The "ndus #iver $alley Civilization had much advancement in city development. The cities of this civilization were planned out on an e,act grid unlike the other civilizations of this time. This idea led to more organized cities which of course are created today. They even had a separate section for residential buildings. Also the cities had sewer systems with indoor plumbing. This allowed for most houses to have private bathrooms ()oc 4+. This accomplishment came back in Ancient 5reece and #ome. All the ancient civilizations contributed many technological advances to society. Ancient Egypt !abylonia and the "ndus #iver $alley Civilizations achievements have had lasting effects on humankind. &rom the architectural innovations of the Egyptians to the political advancements of Ancient !abylonia each civilization contributed to a productive future in which we live today.
