STANDARD: 3.3.3A5 Explain how air temperature, moisture, wind speed and direction and precipitation make up the weather in a particular place and time. I. Performance Objectives (Learning Outcomes): A. Second grade students will be able to explain weather through creating a weather book, sorting objects according to weather, and recording weather of current place. II. Instructional Materials A. Eye on the Sky website B. Weather video C. Prezi D. Weather booklet sheets E. Weather sorting game sheets F. Succors G. Glue H. Ipads I. Whats the Weather Like sheets J. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatball book III. Subject Matter/Content(prerequisite skills, key vocabulary, big idea) A. Prerequisite 1. Knowledge about water and its three states of matter 2. Knowledge about the water cycle 3. Knowledge about water formation 4. Knowledge about clouds 5. Fine motor skills B. Vocabulary 1. Weather- made up of heat from the sun, air, and water

2. Wind- air moving from one spot on Earth to another IV. Implementation A. Introduction 1. Begin the day with a class activity, Eye on the Sky. 1. Visit the website: http://cse.ssl.berkeley.edu/first/EyeontheSkyWeatherJournal/in dex.htm 2. As a class fill in each box. Keep clicking go and have the children participate. 3. State that this activity gave the students an idea of how to journal the weather. B. Development 1. State that the students will now watch a video about weather. 1. Show video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmO9cjsj1zc 2. Present Prezi: http://prezi.com/oeca71rjawi3/what-is-weather/; Go along with the slides. 1. What is weather? 2. What is wind? 3. Review the formation of clouds. Clouds help tell about weather. 3. Pass out the weather booklet sheets. 1. Sheets can be found here: http://www.kizclub.com/Topics/holiday/weatherbook.pdf 2. Tell the children that they will be cutting, coloring, and putting together a weather book. 3. State the weather book will help them remember the different kinds of weather. 4. After creating the books, give each child a weather sorting game sheet. 1. Let the children play the weather sorting game. 2. Sheets can be found here: http://www.kizclub.com/Topics/holiday/whatwear.pdf 3. Tell the students to cut out the pieces and glue the objects according to the weather. 4. Collect these. 5. Ipads should be already signed out for the class. 6. Have students grab an ipad. 7. Tell the students that they will now be a weather watcher. 8. Tell the students to use their ipads to visit the website: www.weather.com 9. Pass out the worksheet, Whats the Weather Like?. 1. Attached is the worksheet. 2. Worksheet can be found here: http://www.kizclub.com/Topics/holiday/weather.pdf

10. State that the students will use the website to determine the weather for the next five days. They must use the worksheet to collect the data they gathered. 1. Visit www.weather.com 2. Type in the zip code of the schools location. 3. On the left hand side are links. Click on 5 Day. 4. Tell students to cut and paste the weather pieces for the five days on the worksheet. 5. Have them label the description word describing the weather for the five days. 11. Collect these. C. Closure 1. To end the day, tell the students that you will read of a book called Cloudy with a Chance of Meatball. 1. Here is a video of the book you can show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnGNNu7yCp0 2. Or read the book provided. 3. Tell the students that today was a great day learning about the weather. State that the next time they look outside, theyll be able to describe the weather to their friends and family and decide on what to dress like for the weather! D. Accommodations/Differentiation 1. To accommodate a student with a learning disability, provide headphones for videos, guided notes, printed questions, and allow group work. E. Assessment/Evaluation Plan 1. Formative 1. Weather booklet- check to see each student completed putting the booklet together 2. Weather Sorting Sheet- collect to assess students knowledge on if they correctly sorted the objects according to the weather terms 3. Whats the Weather Like sheet- collect and assess that each student completed this and correctly labeled the weather for each day. 2. Summative V. Reflective Response A.
