Hiring: Research Assistants (3 Full Time and as many Part Time)

June - Sept 2014 Job Description My name is Paolo Abarcar and I am an economist from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. I am looking to hire research assistants (RAs) for a project funded by a grant from the Rackham Graduate Student Research Fund and the Economics Department of the University of Michigan. The project aims to estimate the value of return migration for employers in the Philippines. The research is a field experiment, where firms are randomly exposed to control or treatment conditions, and then observed. The research assistants will help refine experimental protocol, execute the experiment, encode data, create documents over the Internet, and monitor communication. The end product is an academic paper that is publishable in a top academic journal. Time Frame, Location, and Pay I am looking for 3 full-time RAs to commit to weekdays from June 1 to September 30, 20141. I offer to pay up to Php 20,000 per month, commensurate on experience. I am also looking for as many part-time RAs for the same time frame. College students who are willing to contribute to the study but will have classes during the weekdays are most welcome to apply. The workload will be between 1020 hours a week with flexibility as to days (including Saturdays) and times worked. The part-time RA positions are hourly paid, temporary positions and are dependent on arrangement. I am accommodating of student schedules because working with student interns from the Ateneo in the pilot study during the summer led to more than satisfying results. All RAs report to an office in UP Village, Quezon City. Job Requirements -Familiar with managing data in excel -Competent in using job search websites and willing to learn -A laptop with the ability to connect to the Internet via wifi. Educational Value of Job The research assistants gain first hand experience running a randomized control trial, recently popular in development economics research. As such, this experience is especially valuable to those seeking to pursue a research job in the future or to those considering graduate studies in the social sciences. But I am open to candidates with different backgrounds and interests. Contact To apply, please send your resume to pabarcar@umich.edu. I will contact suitable applicants for the positions. In addition, please free to email, should there be any questions. About Me: Paolo Abarcar I am a Ph.D. Candidate in Economics and Public Policy at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
