ndonesia is the second largest wheat importing


country in the world after Egypt with average
import volume of 5 million tons per annum. Based
on information from United State Department of
Agriculture (USDA) that in 2011 Indonesian wheat
flour volume reached 6.7 million tons rose to 7.1
million tons in 2012 and predicted to reach 8 million
tons. High wheat import was due to nil domestic
production.
Great wheat demand in the country is in line with high
demand for wheat flour because the rising wheat flour
consumption of Indonesian people was 9.00 kg per
capital in 1990 soared to 19.72 per capital up to end
2012. This condition makes the growth food industries
as the most what flour consumers to grow rapidly.
Highest demand comes from instant noodle industries
followed by biscuit industries, bakery industries and
households.
According to survey performed by CDMI that up to
present demand for wheat flour in Indonesia reached
6.2 million tons in the first year fulfilled by 22 wheat
flour companies in Indonesia. However, there are 14
companies which are in routine production including
PT. Bogasari Flour Mills, PT. Eastern Pearl Flour Mills,
PT. Sriboga Ratu Raya, PT. Fugui Flour & Grain
Indonesia, PT. Pangan Mas Inti Persada, PT. Purnomo
Sejati, PT. Asia Raya, PT. Berkat Indah Gemilang, PT.
Jakaranatama, PT. Pakindo Jaya Perkasa, PT. Pundi
Kencana, PT. Lumbung Pangan Nasional PT. Cerestas
Flour Mills and PT. Halim Sari Gandum.
Great Indonesian demand in Indonesia has made
companies to issue great investment fund to construct
new plants and to increase their production capacity.

The companies include PT. Pundi Kencana or PT.


Federal Flour Mills which invested its fund of Rp. 682
billion, PT. Bungasari Flour Mills of Rp. 600 billion, PT.
Bogasari Flour Mills of Rp. 300 billion, PT. Fugui Flour
& Grain Indonesia of US$ 37.5 million, PT. Sriboga
Flour Mills of Rp. 30 million, PT. Cerestar Flour Mills of
US$ 23 million, PT. Siantar Top of Rp. 150 billion and
others.
