Technical Requirements
1. Specifications
A. General
In addition:
One pair of toilet rooms: one men’s and one women’s toilet room, with
fixtures per code.
C. Structural
(3) Support Posts: 3” x 3” x 3/16”. Buried in the end walls and in the
corridor partitions under each steel truss.
(4) Steel Truss: Open web, dual slope 24” high with #30 live-load.
D. Floor
(1) Floor Joists: Open Web, height as required with 40# live load and
a 50# dead load for book shelving
(2) Sheathing: One (1) Layer 5/8” fire rated plywood underlayment
over one (1) layer 5/8” fire rated plywood.
E. Interior Finishes
(1) Floor: 1/8” Vinyl composition tile throughout, with 4” vinyl base
except toilet rooms shall have 6” base.
F. Exterior Walls
(1) Steel Wall Framing: 18 GA. 3-5/8” steel studs 16” O.C.

I. Exterior Doors
(1) Doors: Aluminum and glass with dark bronze Duranodic finish.
Undercut interior vestibule doors 1” for entrance mud carpet.
Locks key alike at all entrances. All locks hardware and keying
schedule to be provided by the DCPL.
(2) Hardware: Panic bars at interior with wire pulls at exterior. (One
leaf to be equipped with automatic handicap door opener at door
with handicap ramp).
J. Interior Doors
(4) Hardware: Lever type at all doors, with the exception of rest room
which shall be push/pull. Provide locksets at office, and toilet
rooms, keyed alike.
K. Windows
(1) Type: Aluminum frame 24” x 52” vertical dual pane insulated
glass sliding type Andersen or equal with insect screens.
I. HVAC
(a) One (1)-roof top package units with electric heat and direct
expansion cooling coils. One unit for each zone; or
(2) Toilet Exhaust: Provide exhaust for the Men’s and Women’s
rooms as required by code.
M. Plumbing
The following plumbing design is based on DC Code, and allows for handicap
access. Quantity of fixtures shall meet building code at a minimum.
(1) Toilets: One (1) Handicap American Standard floor mount tank
type.
(3) Water Coolers: One (1) Oasis or equal wall mount, handicap
accessible.
(6) Water Heater: One (1) 20 Gal. Electric type or sized as required.
N. Accessories
(4) Grab Bars: Two (2) sets 1.25” O.D. at handicap accessible toilet.
O. Electric
(6) Exterior Lights: Two (2) 70W H.P.S. exterior grade fixtures on
switches adjacent to each exterior door.
(7) Emergency Lighting and Power: Exit lights with battery packs and
emergency lights with battery packs as required by NFPA 101 Life
Safety Code. Final configurations must pass DCRA’s on site
inspection.
(1) The modular library must contain 30 data ports for public use
computers primarily located along one wall, and a voice/data outlet
at the head of the unit for the circulation desk.
(2) Offices must contain drops for phone, fax and computer.
(3) All data jacks to be RJ 45 cat 5E, data to be black and voice to be
white.
R. Security
