Evaluation activity 3: What kind of media institution company might distrubute your media product and why?

A production company helps to handle the funding, promotion, casting, scheduling e.t.c They are quite important, and give the much needed backing that every major blockbuster has needed in the past to make them the success they are. They hire the staff for the film, the director and the majority of the actors, theyre in charge of the editing during post-production and make sure the film is put together properly and on time to be distributed, which they also handle either by sending the film away to various other companies or (within bigger production companies) through their own distrubuters. They are also in charge of security for the cast and staff, during filming at various locations, to make the actors and directors are safe from the public and they dont get to close and disturb filming.

My production company is called DNA productions, since the production company bascally makes the film, helps organise it and puts it together, theyre like the DNA of the film hence the name. Also, the name is not hard to remember, and the majority of people are fa iliar with the double helix bound DNA comes in, therefore making the logo very easy to remember.

The credits of the film are important, as they inform the audience of the staff invovled within the creation of the film, and gives them the recognision they deserve, and they are shown in order of importance and contribution towards the film. Within my film, I kept to the norm of starting with the director, as he is the most important person during the production of the film. Then the cinematographer, and then the editor, although all these rolls were filled by one person, I mentioned the roles seperately in order to not confuse the audience.

There are two production companies that come to mind to help in the production and distrubution of my film: 20th century fox and Lionsgate. 20th cetury fox have the advantage of a high amount of resources at their disposel, they can help with the distribution as they have a lot of experience in it, also they can help with the promotion as there other subsideries under news corp. (the owner of 20th century fox) within the media to help promote the film. They have experiecnce in the distrubution of successful thriller films, such as: sleeping with the enemy(1991), the happening(2008), and taken (2009). Lionsgate is a successful production company; known for being involved a number of films, although a film theyre known quite famously for producing, and most relevant to our film is the Saw franchise, which is one of their biggest successs to date. It is also a film very similar to mine, it gave inspiration to the film, and since the production company is already used to distrubuting a film like mine and was so successful with it, I believe they would be fit to distrubute my film. They have the experience and would know exactly how to promote it, who to target it towards, and who would be best suited to distribute it.
