Dear Friends and Loved Ones,

Greetings, in the name of our Lord!

"Grace be unto you,

and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ
Praise God for His goodness, and for the response to this

goodness that wells up in the hearts of men.

while we have been able to encourage many young people to yield
their lives to Christ, Mrs. Taguma is our first adult convert

We are thankful for the prayers of the saints that made possible a spiri
tual revival in the hearts of many in our congregation during the week of March 22-29- The theme of cur meeting was "Power in the Blood" and I illus trated this each night by a chemical demonstration that was tied into the ser Kalihi Church of Christ (it is almost 8 miles from us), who has a great love for the Lord and a strong, rich voice. We are now engaged in the same activity that you probably are--preparing for Vacation Bible School, which we will have June 15-26. The children of our community are usually engaged in so many daytime summer activities that our VBS attendance is quite small. A neighboring church has been having a success ful VBS at night, so we are going to follow their example. Our pupils seem
interested, and we already have more registration cards returned in than we
had on the first day of VBS last year.

The last week in May we are expecting to have a summer worker. Jennings Barnett, a Junior student in Cincinnati Bible Seminary, has volunteered to

help us throup:h this busiest time of the year.

He will render valuable

assistance in Vacation Bible Schools and in the camp sessions.

If you would like to see a short s-lide program with a taped commentary describing the place where we live and work, please contact Miss Opal Harvey,

We hope that she will

have a more ccraprehensive set of slides in a few months.

Several people have asked if we were involved in the tidal wave which hit

Hawaii as a result of the Alaskan earthquake# No, we live fairly hi.srh in the Pnlolo Valley and are in no danger from the ocean# However, we did spend
some tense moments listening to the radio warnings, and were concerned with
the safety of some who had attended our Revival services from out of town

and were on their way home along highways' ^hat.are just a few feet above .sea
level. The first indication of a tidal wave comes as wis hear the eerie sound

of the tidal wave signal on the sirens. Then we quickly"V,turn on our radios to learn the detailswhen the wave is expected, where,.it has already '-'feeen and what damage it has caused. We were glued to the radio this time as we learned of the damage to the west coast, and considered the possibility of damage here# The first tidal wave action comes in the form of a mighty recession cf water# Announcers described the lowering of the water in the Ala Wai canal three
feet or more below normal. It was expected that when the big waves came in that they would be considerable higher than normal. They were, but not enough to cause damage here on Oahu# There was some loss on the other islands. We are fortunate to live considerably above sea-level, because those in the lowlying areas have to evacuate at the first warning eind not return to their h'omes until the "all-clear" is scunded, which is usually several hours. We are so thankful for your interest, prayers, and other support.
God guide and use you in His service there.
