The pathways offer both practical and vocational skills in projects relevant to that subject area. This is a practical Level 3 course for students with a real enthusiasm for art

Graphic Design
The Graphic Design Pathway aims to train students not only to think creatively and interpret a brief with flair and originality but also to build a good looking practical portfolio of work that demonstrates the skill set and the mind-set that employers want from new designers. The course will cover Editorial Design, Design for Marketing and Advertising, Photography for Graphic Applications, Digital Illustration and Animation and Design for the Web. This course has been developed by professionals who have held senior posts at national creative companies and have also worked for high calibre regional employers in the creative sector. It is taught by practicing Graphic Designers so students will receive the high-quality, relevant knowledge and expertise that can be readily applied in the workplace. Fashion and Textiles


Fashion & Textiles encompasses a range of creative activities from traditional means of realizing designs via drawing, mark making, printmaking and illustration through to construction methods for surface design, garment making and accessory design. The course also focusses on more contemporary approaches in digital design, laser cutting and sublimation printing. This pathway aims to encourage students to not only achieve their creative vision but also to give them the practical and technical skills to not only design garments but also to realize and construct these designs as garments. The pathway recognizes the need for business and entrepreneurial awareness and gives student grounding in this to underpin the practical, contextual and creative strands of the courses delivery. Commercial Photography
The Commercial Photography Pathway will allow you to develop your skills through the application of both practical and theoretical photographic practice. Students will develop the skills they need via workshops, location shoots, studio practice and interaction specialist guest lecturers and experience a highly relevant and employable student training experience. Focusing on the current expectations of the professional photographic industry to build a creative but highly work relevant portfolio, the pathway aims to develop all the techniques and processes for commercial and creative success. You will have the opportunity to explore the following key areas of photographic practice: Advertising, Marketing, Experimental, Fashion, Location and Landscape, Studio and Commercial Client based work. Digital Illustration
Digital Illustration is focused both on traditional drawing skills using a range of of established physical media to create images that both visually communicate and fit a given professional or personal brief. This dynamic course then takes students one step beyond this established creative foundation to embrace and apply their skills to contemporary digital media forms. The course is designed with a relevant focus on the currency of the contemporary illustration scene and its key areas of exploration are: Visual Narratives, Editorial Illustration, Illustration for Publishing and Advertising, Narrative Illustration, Character Design and World Building for Games. Visual Arts
Visual Art encompasses a range of activities and media forms from the traditional - drawing, painting, sculpture, to emergent or more contemporary approaches such as film and digital media. Whichever media form or approach students adopt the Visual Arts pathway embodies a new creative vision and recognizes that Visual Arts are a fundamental creative force in national and international culture. This pathway aims to encourage students to achieve creative freedom, critical insight, underpinned by confident competency in both formal approaches and also in technical innovation.
