POSTED 04-18-2014 Position Description Senior systems engineer for the Missile Defense National Team (MNDT) Command Control Battle Management Communication (C2BMC) Team located at Schriever AFB, CO. The candidate must possess strong leadership, interpersonal, and verbal/written communications skills enabling him/her to work effectively in a small technical team environment, and to accurately represent engineering perspectives to C2BMC system architects, software designers, other testers and test support personnel, the Government customer, and personnel in other MDA programs. As an engineer, the successful candidate must possess an understanding of systems engineering processes and logistics principles, including artifact generation (specifications, Interface Control Documents, System Architecture Descriptions, Use Cases, Trade Studies). Candidates must have experience with track correlation, track fusion, sensor tasking, command and control, and understand the principles of powered and ballistic missile flight. The Engineer should possess skills including identification and definition of desired system capabilities, fielding of new capabilities, system-of-systems definition, integration practices and methods, communicating the desired capabilities to a diverse group of developers, engineers, subject matter experts, and users. Require experience with C2BMC and knowledge of other BMDS elements including AN/TPY2, Aegis, THAAD, Patriot, and SBX. Additional desired technical skills/expertise: Orbital mechanics; statistical methods to include covariance analysis;; spreadsheet analysis, and associated tools; an understanding of the physics and mechanics of powered and ballistic missile flight; and, the format and content of track reports from IR and radar sensors. This position will encompass the project management and leadership of a set of sub-projects. The Engineer will have oversight of 6-9 FTE across 3 distinct projects. More projects could be added in the future. The Engineer will maintain strategic guidance of the projects, understand the progress, define future engineering and prototype development activities, and provide ongoing status to ACE IPT Leadership. The engineer will work closely with the ACE IPT Chief Engineer and Chief Architect to determine the appropriate engineering baseline and technical approach. The Engineer will be responsible to the ACE IPT Lead and Deputy Lead for technical and schedule performance. The current portfolio that the Engineer would have responsibility for includes Launch on Remote, C2BMC Characterization using BOA inputs, and Unified Cue Prototype for strategic sensors. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Level 5 - Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's 14 or more years' experience, Master's with 12 or more years' experience or PhD with 9 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Other Job related information The successful candidate will have extensive experience with current C2BMC Track Processing algorithms, data collection methodologies, and Technical Performance Measures used on the program. The candidate will also have experience with the BMDS OPIR Architecture, including analysis methods, algorithms, and interfaces. The candidate will also have experience with Link 16 track reporting.
