Annotated Bibliography Keywords: Pollution, air pollution, health impacts, ozone layer, green house gases, consequences, solutions, renewable resources, non renewable resources, environmental justice, EPA My overall paper is focusing on what air pollution, and the consequences and solutions that are brought along with air pollution. Therefore, by using these terms, I was able to find a multitude of resources that focus on the information I need to write my inquiry paper. Over 300,000 results came up on the UNCC Library search. I had to limit the results by choosing more recent dates to focus on as well as using peer-reviewed articles to ensure that they were scholarly and factual. Among these results were articles, books, journals and even videos, which made it possible to find many different sources that could be used in order to put this paper together.

Concept map:

For my concept map, I really wanted to focus on air pollution and the problems, solutions, how it all ties together, and the action plan, and then incorporate my sources to explain each, and talk about what I think. In this manner, I am more able to focus my thinking and present my ideas in a more organized manner. I first want to talk about what air pollution is, then give the problems with air pollution, with a special focus on health implications, the solutions that can be brought together in order to make air pollution less of a problem, how pollution is interconnected, and then finally, give my overall action plan idea. The audience Im focusing on for this paper is a more apathetic group of teenagers. This is my audience because I want to

appeal to a group that likely doesnt realize how big of a problem, air pollution, and pollution in general, truly is. So by writing in terms that can appreciate and understand, they will hopefully, if not becoming motivated to make change, at least understand how important the issue is. Synthesis/Analysis: Each of the sources I found discusses air pollution and how important the issue is. The overarching theme of this paper is focusing on air pollution and the health problems that come along with it. Then I wanted to present some of the solutions, big and small, that help in dealing with this issue. I then wanted to focus my ideas on how pollution, water, land, air, etc., are interconnected and all play a major role. All this can and will be accomplished through the use of my sources. To begin, air pollution is a complex mixture of compounds in (ozone, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen dioxide) and particulate phases (Brook, 909). This indicates that air pollution is caused from a number of gases and particulates being in the air. These particulates and gases cause no only terrible environmental effects, like that of acid rain, ozone depletion, green house effect, and contributes to global warming (Lidskog, Sundqvist, 1). However, this doesnt only effect the environment, it also effects peoples health. Many health issues have arisen due to air pollution: many of them dealing with asthma and allergies (Riedl, 139). Early deaths have also been associated with air pollution. Children and elderly people are especially susceptible to health dangers from air pollution as their lungs are either still developing or dont work as well (Kelly et al., 8). Therefore, as one solution, Kamal Meattle offers a ways in which we can keep our air clean and healthy. He says that having plants can keep the air clean, and keep you healthy (Meattle, 2009). However, overall, this is just a small view of the many ways in which I am going to format my paper. Its a small window of how

each source, among many others will be used. Overall, Im quite excited about how and to whom I am writing my paper for. Works Cited Brook, RD. "Air Pollution: What Is Bad for the Arteries Might Be Bad for the Veins." Archives of Internal Medicine. 168.9 (2008): 909-11. Print.
