Mothers Day Novena

On Sunday, May 11th, we begin our Novena of Masses for Mothers. If you would like to make a donation in honor or in memory of a mother, there are special envelopes and cards at the back of the church. The small envelopes are for the deceased; the cards are for the living. The donation envelopes will be placed on the altar during the nine days of the Novena.

Pastors Corner
THE WAY TO EMMAUS IS A JOURNEY OF FAITH
The passion and death of Jesus Christ was a devastating experience for His followers. For them, the Calvary was the end of the story of Jesus Christ. This is one reason why His resurrection was thought of as incredible. No one seemed to be ready for the good news of Easter. The road to Emmaus witnessed the appearance of Jesus after His resurrection from the dead. The two disciples on the road to Emmaus were discouraged with their sad experience on Good Friday on the death of Jesus. Then, He came to them but they did not recognize Him. When Jesus explained the scriptures and broke the bread, their eyes were opened as they felt in their hearts the fire of Gods love. We have journeys in life similar to those of the two disciples on the road to Emmaus. We have our own Emmaus stories. Sometimes we get discouraged with the trials of life and we do not understand the truth of the faith. Our minds are confused with the many different competing ideas of life. There is also the scandal of Church leaders and other erring Catholics that cause others to leave the Church. But by the working of the Spirit of the Risen Lord, we become enlightened with the goodness and beauty of God leading us to the true faith. The Word and the Eucharist and the goodness of many believers are ways by which we recognize the presence and action of God through Jesus Christ. The RCIA program and the Easter Vigil celebration witnessed this transformation in the lives of converts and fallen Catholics who embraced the faith after being away from it. The Risen Christ is at work in us if only we invite Him to journey with us in our walk towards maturing in faith.

Congratulations
We welcome into our Catholic family the following children who were baptized in April: Noah Costa, Nove Noa, & Zoie Rillon

THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER

MAY 4, 2014

Stained Glass Restoration

If you look up at the northwest corner of the sanctuary you will notice that a window (3 panels) has been removed for restoration. Sister Marie Tatina, OSB is performing the restoration at her studio in San Marcos. Sister Marie manufactured several new stained glass windows for St Columba in 1990 when the church went through a major remodeling project. The original stained glass windows were the work of a small group of artists and craftsmen called the Irish Stained Glass Ltd. in Dublin Ireland. There are 14 saints depicted in each window. In future weeks you will be provided with information on how you can adopt a saint by donating to its restoration.
